      I’m not able to get away this year but have already booked Le Shuttle for next year. It’ll be the first time that I’ve taken a van overseas. Aiming to get to the Dolomites but Calais, at least, will be guaranteed! Aim to book some campsites but will mostly be winging it 😄

    Hello Jordan & Jo, Only just getting to catch up on this one as we are just back from that four week trip to Gardaland and Lake Garda. Excellent trip, 8 countries, 8 different theme parks, all pre booked sites, which were all brilliant! Your van is packed obscenely well and tidy! As you know, similar to you, 3 boys, our Nugget Plus is amazing but only a pop top so less cupboards but we took our trailer. No issues at any time.
    Looking forward to the rest of the series, keep up the great work, hope the modifications to the house are coming along nicely. All the best Richard & family.

      Hi Richard! Nice to hear from you and thanks for the update. What a trip you’ve just had! Glad to hear that Nugget power 💪 got you through with no problems. A beautiful trip too. Yes, packing has become an art form but strangely satisfying…😂
      I had a camping trailer until recently but always resisted bursting into it and taking too much. Free camping and parking up is harder too, and I’m restricted to 50mph in Italy and the Italian tolls increase significantly too. Do you think you’ll use your trailer regularly from now on? What did you put in the trailer? Glad you are enjoying the latest series, nice to hear.
      I have a meeting today with the architect so I will know more about a start date, but should be before the end of the month. I will then do an update video 👍

      Hi Jordan, We do take to much stuff! Our trailer has, windscreen wrap, pop top wrap, bedding, camping chairs, barbecue, fire pit, extra clothes and as we have the space a (small) washing machine! I tend to try and anticipate anything so a few extra tools, charcoal, wood, food and so on! I don’t remember sticking to 50 when we were in Italy. OOPS!
      Never really had a problem parking, occasionally had to walk a bit further but we do tend to stick to sites.
      I noticed in episode 2 or 3 you don’t use the protective mat for winding out/in the awning anymore. Must admit I tried it once but I’m just really careful now instead. Good luck with the architect, look forward to the updates and the eventual tour. Really, really happy with our Nugget Plus. The boys are slowly growing so we’ll have to upgrade at some point. Safe for a good few years yet. Might try and get to Caravan Salon Düsseldorf for some inspiration in the next few years.

    What a lovely vlog. Your girls are growing up so quickly!
    Reminds me of our trip in 2012 when we drove our van from UK all the way to Rovinj and back by the Italian Lakes, through the Mont Blanc tunnel to home again with 2 smallish kids on board. Great holiday.
    Thanks again and looking forward to episode 2❤❤.

      Thanks Alan for your great comments! We went by Rovinj on our way to Pula…we wanted to go there too, but wasn’t the right time to stop. That was a good journey for you and family! Girls are growing fast, you’re right…Izzy is only 11 and is already like a mini teenager sometimes…😲. I hope you enjoy episode 2…will be out in a few weeks time. Best wishes!

    Very much enjoyed watching. The girls looked so excited and what a lovely start to your holiday. We will be interested to see how you get on in Croatia without booking sites ahead as that is somewhere we would like to visit in the camper one day. Look forward to episode 2 🙂👍

      Thanks guys! Croatia makes you feel a little uneasy about free camping, mainly due to the stories you read about regarding being fined, but it’s ok if you’re a bit choosy. Splitting time between campsites and free camps works well for us. Also, campsites are some of the most expensive we’ve ever stayed at. It does feel like a proper adventure though, especially hopping between the islands! 😃👍

    It’s good to see like us you use the van! See so many left stagnant on driveways (obscene really). Ours is now 22 months old, just over 32,000 miles on the clock after our summer trip. How do we compare?
    I’m not stalking you but looking forward to your Corsica blogs as that is also on our list. 2025 though probably!

    • @CaliCamperFamily

      😂😂😂…stalking!!!? We enjoy you following our channel and getting involved…great comments etc. We use our Nugget even more than we thought we would, even for going to work once or twice a week when the other cars are busy doing school runs etc. To compare, we have done 23,000km now in 18months. So, you are using yours very well indeed! Next year we plan to go to Scandinavia (depending on the house project) so that will rack up the miles a bit. Corsica was absolutely terrific, highly recommended 👍😎. I’m looking forward to editing it!

    The trip looks awesome but such a shame that wild camping isn’t allowed in Croatia. Those fines are huge! 😡

Yes, we gradually gained confidence to free camp in Croatia and only had a knock on the door from the police once, asking politely to move before the beach goers arrive. Phew! We live the impromptu! Best regards from Italy!

    Nice video, we just did a trip to Croatia ourselves in the Nugget Plus (poptop - fam of 5). Just a short question, are you guys every worried about the max payload? With the electric bikes and fully packed you have to get close to the max 3400 kg. Just wondering as we are thinking about adding a bike rack to the tow bar. Keep it up, good Nugget footage!

    • @CaliCamperFamily
      @CaliCamperFamily  Год назад +2

      Hi Vince, to be honest, I must be at about max weight. It would be interesting to get on a weigh bridge when fully ‘operational’ as I also travel with a full fresh water tank. I can recommend the tow bar bike rack though…also, carrying bikes gives a great level of freedom wherever you arrive! Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching 😃👍

      Thanks for watching! Yes, if we are driving slowly and taking it easy we have seen less than 8litres per 100. However, we are usually driving on the faster side TBH…!

      @@CaliCamperFamily Our 4 weeks in Europe, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and France. 3,276 miles, towing a trailer, Ford Nugget Plus, pop top (so marginally more aero dynamic 😂), not hanging about on the many motorways and the computer said 10.8 litre consumption. I never bother with checking it as I prefer the comfort and convenience of travelling with the home comforts. Fully loaded, full water tanks and extra water carried as well!

  • @ste1

    Loving your videos! Quick question… you ever have any probs filling your fresh water to 100% before setting off? I’ve been sticking to the manual which says 75% whilst driving, which I find quite annoying.

    • @CaliCamperFamily
      @CaliCamperFamily  Год назад

      Hello 👋…thanks for watching and glad you like the content. As regards the freshwater, in both the Nuggets we’ve had I have never worried about it. I have never turned the ‘travel valve’ and always just filled it up to the brim. Never had any problems doing that. Maybe the manufacturer stipulates for payload reasons…but with a family of 5, I want my water tank full when the opportunity is there. Best regards from us all 👍
