This show is extremely creatively comforting. It's too insanely complex to articulate. I could feel forever. It makes me feel like my weird shit can also, on some level, be appreciated by someone for some reason. I love you, Adult Swim.
True! People tend to shut themselves down more often than anything or anyone else does, especially creatively minded people. It's something I tend to struggle with, and a lot of other people I know have experienced the same sensation as well. Human beings of any skillset or mindset tend to be their own worst enemy when it comes down to expression and judging themselves, and I have anxiety as well, which certainly doesn't help. But it's good to get a reminder every now and then to just let the spice flow. :)
effluviah I agree. What I like most is how they mix media, either on top of each other, or just side by side. It takes a certain fearless-ness to be able to give up the normal constraints and just do your thing. The one thing I can assure you is that someone, somewhere will appreciate what you do, no matter what you do.
I’ve been coming back & watching for the past 8 years & i just realized the cactus scene at the end was about the dehydrated feeling of a desert and the “light” of the liquid in a cactus! 🌵
Eat Mushrooms and watch all the episodes of this show and consequences will never be the same. I'm so amazed to live in a time and place where things like this exist. Every episode of this show is unbelievable. So good.
i watched this for the first time on my first ever acid comeup. my homie and i CRIED laughing at the part with the foam animals expanding in water. it was absolutely beautiful, will never ever forget it. now i try not to watch too many off the air episodes, because i want to save them for all my future trips. this show is truly amazing.
SAMEEE but got us it was when the water drop fell and transformed when I tell you that was the most mind blowing life altering drop of water Iv ever seen
i love this so much. its really hard to type right now but its worth it to thank the creators of this. this creation will forever hold a place in time.
I was trippin' balls on the same manner last night and I *so* regret forgetting to put this on! I saw it for the first time last weekend on Bicycle Day when I had taken the other tab. I'm thinking this is either residual dopeness, sober excellence, or I still vape hella canna and just ate a *superb* sangwich. "Namaste about it-- our sangwiches are delicious."
That's borderline nightmare fuel. With all the comments of people watching this while tripping, imagine someone doing that but in a vr setting. Especially with the price of eggs right now. David would show up and steal their soul only for them to turn into a bubble born on a beach by a golden retriever whistling Irish folk songs.
I watched this last night when I was baked, came back this morning and it's still a beautiful piece of art. I'm salty that I haven't started watching these sooner
they run marathons on the adult swim streaming app, usually for quite some chunk of time as well. They also seem to upload a new episode every month too so it's bit always going to just be the same few episodes.
I think we've all had those moments where we fell asleep with the TV on Catoon Network and then woke up in the middle of the night still half asleep to one of these.
All right so I'm tripping balls, so this might not seem like a coherent perspective: To me, I think the piece that started playing at 8:25 represents the consequences of not recycling and generating endless plastic waste instead. It starts with the man pushing his cart of what seems like groceries back to...wherever. Then comes the parallel where we see the same man, or possibly the personification of a dying planet, pushing the non-recyclable items into the sea. So much waste ends up here, with decaying humanity following close behind. At the end, we see the man pushing his groceries, but the face of the ocean emerges from the cart. The man stops and stares into the incredible awe from its raw power. He realizes in that moment that he has taken his planet for granted. The man looks too deep in, however, and it consumed by the earth's last solution to save itself: the destruction of Humanity. The moral of the story is: buy eco-friendly items or be recruited to the hive mind of a giant, Ocean-Fish-Plastic-Beast
I love the hyper analysis of one of these clips because I'd go down a whole path of thinking like yours and want to talk about it but couldn't capture how I felt before the next experience began
ragganyc yeah, there's things you notice and messages you receive that the author of the works of "art" put out there but most people can't see. on those substances you see them easier and clearer!
I think surrealism is a great medium that explores the realm of art, humor, nature, the human mind/condition from a fresh and creative perspective. BUT I do believe it can be employed as a dangerous and chaotic tool in the hands of nihilism (which surrealism is largely associated with unfortunately), a philosophy that seems to be close to the hearts of many of Adult Swim's creators. I would watch more of Adult Swim if it focused on the BEAUTY of LIFE and it's MEANING rather than its SEEMINGLY incoherent and hopeless nature. This episode (for the most part, in contrast to Off the Air's "Food") did just THAT, and perfectly I might add through the creative genius of a surrealist mind.
don't often see logical thought wading through the RUclips pits. Some might think what you said is a book but it's that's the simple tarts for you. i watch AS to see what I can of the beauty, sometimes I see grose stuff but that compared to these comment sections is just more beauty. AS opened my eyes to Cowboy Bebop and part of the love I have for that is shared with the late night programming section.
I disagree with the "hopeless" part of your analysis, I would think that "hope" or it's counterpart are both concepts completely alien to thd philosophy behind these works.
And what would the problem with nihilism be? In my eyes, nihilism does absolutely no harm, nor does it get to be dangerous. As a matter of fact, it can be quite soothing. And it does not contradict the beauty of life--life can still be pretty, you know. It can be pretty and not have any meaning... which is exactlly the point behind these videos. Some cuts of them are coherent, but mostly it's just an amalgamation of aesthetic and mindless absurdity. It's not hopelessness, it's realism--realism in surrealism--that's in today's minds.
Liquid was 12 minutes long, NewNow was 11 minutes long and yet Liquid went by much quicker....time dilation and dimensional rifting. THIS Is a Quality Product.
you could get a similar effect irl by using lens with shallow depth of field, racking the focus, and simultaneously sweeping very bright but very thin but wide slits of light across the surface.. lasers for would be brilliantly precise .. that's how I would do it anyways
10:03 I have experienced this exact same thing when I took acid at the beach and the light reflecting off the wet grasses became super fantastic looking, like a rain of alien sparks landing from the sky.
8:25 just takes me to a different world. I wish I could disappear into that shopping cart and live with that shopping cart monster forever. Forget the world that surrounds the shopping cart that the monster and I reside in.
This video has played a role in many of my positive experiences. For some reason, I can't watch the dog running and jumping in to that water without crying tears of....I dunno....but its not sadness.
Agree. the full cart and old looking person represent each of us pushing around our baggage and turmoil that has made our lives what they are/were and then its realizing/coming to love the fact that the cart full of your baggage is what makes/made you, you.
I really can't begin to explain how much adult swim has contributed to my life, I mean sometimes its so vulgar that it shouldn't be funny and some stuff is just plain stupid but its stupid in a good way. And sometimes I just feel weirdly comfortable when I watch these, as if this shit is like, getting me high without drugs, and I feel like stuff like this can finally get recognized the way it should be, weird as fuck but funny, which a lot of people can relate to. So thanks guys. Thanks for making my life better (and worse at the same time) and giving me something that I can watch and feel, sorta at home. Cont know why I chose to say this on this particular video but I just needed to get it out
I've loved this episode for a while. I've recently become lost. I think watching it again has helped me in some small part to find myself again. I can't express my appreciation to the creators more. Thank you.
You gotta get high in order to know how it is like. I heard stories and I had assumptions about being high but it's not close to actually being high. You gotta try it to know what it's like, because it's a different state of consciousness

Liquid is by far the most comforting episode of off the air, they should make a Christmas or holiday themed episode
So you like to separate the H from the H2O

Adult Swim should make these compatible with virtual reality
Impossible, though. These footages are from various random sources.

jojolafrite90 as makes their own content, too. Not under the Off The Air title, but it’s a “maybe one day” thing for now.
