  • Oddworld Lore: The Legend Of Lulu is a video about Oddworld lore by pupbenny that takes a closer look at Lulu the Glukkon from Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee where is portrayed at first as one of the most lazy Glukkons!
    Oddworld was created by Lorne Lanning who founded Oddworld Inhabitants which has produced many games, Including Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath and Oddworld: Soulstorm. I find the Oddworld lore fascination and hope to bring the Oddworld universe to life by telling the story of it and it's characters, creatures and locations so that they can be explained and theorised about by delving into Oddworld theory and the lore of the universe of the Oddworld games!

      @Grungus Khan I kind of want to see something like that as well. If a remake happens and follows a similar storytelling path as Munch's Odyssee (which it most likely will), maybe as a little "thanks" Abe and Munch will possess some of the other high rollers at the auction, including the other GlockStar, Tex, and have them donate to the Lulu Fund, so that at the very least Lulu and his Slig Valet will be financially sound (probably not GlockStar sound, but still well-off), and maybe help them distance themselves from Gluckon society and the Magog Cartel so they can just be happy and be themselves. Hell, they might convince Lulu and his Slig to join the Mudockans and show them the vision that the Almighty Raisin has for all of Oddworld. It would be the first stepping stone towards that vision.
      Or Lulu can die in the explosion that destroys Vykers Labs

    I think the reason they went though the trouble of getting money donated to Lulu instead of possessing an already rich Glukkon is to help with the big picture. If Abe just used another Glockstar it would just inconvenience that one guy. By building up funds for Lulu they are shutting down a number of Glukkons that are planning on causing more harm to the environment. Also Lulu is such a lazy idiot that they didn't need to worry about him doing anything with the money since he has no real ambition.

    I think the reason why Lulu is able to resist the possession is because it’s the longest Abe has ever possessed someone, seeing on how auctions especially with this many people who are rich, it goes on so long that Abe feels worn out seeing on how usually Abe doesn’t need to possess for that long usually so it may be like the force where it can wain on a person’s body, or maybe Glukkons can resist better since we see the three Gluks near the end of the Slig security cutscene, lose the possession particles near the end of the cutscene.

    I think Lulu's resistance wasn't about him being greedy and not wanting to lose his money. He doesn't care enough about it to be one of the only people able to fight back due to the willpower factor. I think it was simply because of the Gabbiar, or in this case, his disliking of it. It would make sense that the laziest person of the Glukkon species is able to resist to a degree, not because of his desire to keep his wealth, but because of his desire to be lazy. With all that money, he probably didn't have to work anymore, so to lose that money would mean having to work again.

      _Soulstorm_ explained the mechanics in that it took ki energy to possess and control another mind, thus explaining why you needed multiple Mudokons chanting to generate enough ki to drastically change the environment throughout _Munch's Oddysee._ Abe was shown to be exhausted when he lost possession of Lulu the first time and the amount of time it would've taken for the Slig Valet to get dressed and for the duo to get to the auction would've been quite a while, supporting your hypothesis.

    It is stated in the Oddworld wiki that the Glockstar status isn't exactly exploited much by Glukkons to show some restraint, and is mostly for ego. So for all we know, there aren't that many Glockstars who have the ability to maintain the status of Glockstar. (Or won't admit it for tax reasons.) That lifestyle is probably lavish, busy, and expensive to maintain. It's possible Lulu was used because
    1). The Lulu find would be a good way to get money from many other Glukkons, take them, while not actually being involved in environmental damage.
    2). Finding a Glockstar, or even a Big Cheese to possess would possibly take too long, and be very dangerous considering how they handle business.
    3). Lulu being an overnight sensation from some dumb fund is like those '100 Million subs with no videos' channels on highly illegal steroids. Idea sounds ridiculous at first, but you become more inclined to donate when you see it's successful. Luke's status just so happens to make him very exploitable for that.
    And 4). Lulu being lazy also makes this easy to pull off, given that he wouldn't care if he suddenly got rich without trying. I'm pretty sure most Glukkons, being as stingy and business-savvy as they are, would notice a large increase in wealth, and be concerned for tax reasons.
    That's my observation at least. Good chance that I am wrong, but that's why I think Lulu was the poor Glukkon that got to be the King of Mudos for a day.

    • @SaiyanGamer95
      @SaiyanGamer95 3 года назад +19

      To add to the second part, since the likes of a Glockstar (or really, any highly wealthy Gluk) is also a good businessman, they would no doubt have a lot of security, making it even harder to not only reach them, but also posses them for extended periods of time. Especially since Abe is a well-known fugitive and Mudokons are known to possess other living creatures.

    I wonder what Munch's Oddysee is going to look like when it gets remade like Soulstorm. You get a brief preview of the influence of the Vykker's in Soulstorm but it still gives off that mysterious "who are they" feeling that you get when their only appearances are in tapes and spray paints. It's also interesting to see that in Munch's Oddysee it's presumed that the events occur over the course of several days/ weeks (given how newspapers on covered stories likely need time to be printed for each Glukkon donation). Compare this with how New'n'Tasty and Soulstorm occur within the span of 1-2 days and it seems like the pace of the story is off.
    I don't know if Soulstorm has DLC planned before work on Munch's Oddysee starts, but I'm excited to see how it ties in with Abe's mother, given how that was what was originally planned but scrapped.

I'm interested if Abe really shows you a different perspective on things and maybe even helps on the location of Queen SAM !! I mean Lulu is a jerk in a way but maybe when Abe and Munch find him maybe and just maybe, they will start to question his existence ..

  • @rokusho6667

    Lulu was probably picked by the almighty raisin specifically because he has no will power to resist Abe’s possession.
    Think about it. Abe can’t possess non stop and a strong enough will can resist Abe eventually. But when he’s not possessed he just sleeps.
    But when Abe gets exhausted at the Vikars auction he manages to resist because lulu does have will about one thing…not eating Gabiar much less spending his fortune on it.
    I’d imagine with the other glukkons having such a stronger will they’d resist and even if they couldn’t the moment they’d see new money suspect something was up or spending it to reinvest in some other wealth making endeavor.

  • @TheListenersPost
    @TheListenersPost 2 года назад +4

    I would like to weigh in here if I may.
    Abe possessed Lulu when the latter was still in his office. Lulu shows no interest in attending the auction and is dismissive of the gabbiar, which seems to be the only actual lot we're made aware of. And given his lackidaisical style and waking up to find everything just handed to him, probably isn't that interested in just mingling.
    That's when Abe possesses him and speaks through Lulu to his valet, "Get dressed." So it's likely that Abe was keeping up the ceremony for multiple hours and while in motion, in order for him to be hiding in the rafters at the auction house. Abe was using an application of the Mudokons' mystical power that is probably not just physically and mentally exhausting, but actively dangerous to his well-being. I think it's got very little to do with Lulu's "will" and more to do with Abe grossly overextending himself. Not a lot of time has passed since his adventures at Rupture Farms and Soulstorm Brewery, and before then he was a slave -- what time has he had to really refine and train himself when compared to Big Face and the free Mudokons who rescued him from the grinder?
    Other comments have nailed why utilising Lulu instead of Tex is better in the long run, so for the sake of brevity, it did significantly more damage to the infrastructure of other rising Glukkons to have them donate to the fund and destroy their reputations among the Magog Cartel and their affiliates. Tex would have been a one-and-done deal, easier and quicker, but ultimately a drop in the ocean compared to the ever-expanding chaos dealt to the various industrial sectors throughout that region of Mudos. It's not impossible that the Almighty Raisin, who concocted their whole scheme in the first place and, given his own venerable status as a guru, understands how to play a long game. It's moving the pieces into play to strike the largest possible blow against Glukkon rule.
    As for the names, I don't think there's any particular quirk there. Yes, stuff like Molluck, Dripik, Phleg, Morguer, Sekto, Crig, Aslik, Skillya, etc. are very odd names by our standards, but they also have Margaret, who is a Glukkon Queen, and if she's anything like royalty in our world that's probably an ancestral name. Certain names carry weight in these old prestigious bloodlines, which is why we've had multiple monarchs called Elizabeth, Charles, Henry, Louis, Edward, James, William, George, etc.
    Other names on Oddworld among the other species have included Abe, Alf, Toby, Sam, Humphrey, Irwin, Joe, McGraw, and McGee. Even if some of those aren't shortened versions as they are for us (i.e. Abe, Alf, Toby, and Sam might not be pet names for Abraham, Alfred, Tobias, and Samantha here), it's a lot more likely Earth-like sounds aren't unusual, it's just that there are also some additional ones to go with them.
    Last of all, indulging a bit of speculation on my part: perhaps the reason Lulu threw away his Glockstar suit at the end is that there's an almost-sacred underpinning to it, like any form of priesthood for us. The colours aside, Tex is dressed identically, to the point of it being the exact same character model with the palette switched out. Now from a production standpoint that just meant they didn't have to make a whole new model for a single-scene character, but in context of the world, why would such affluent individuals limit themselves to dressing like one another?
    It could be that since both wealth and status are tied so closely into the core tenets of Glukkon culture (to the point that a Gluk is institutionalised over his donation to the fund), only a recognised Glockstar can dress like that, and to do otherwise might be a crime. It gets thrown out rather than confiscated because, as a symbol, it's been sullied by his sacrilegious actions.
    Coming back to my priest comment, according to supplemental materials released by Oddworld Inhabitants, the Glukkons used to be a mystically-inclined culture before they cut ties with the Mudokons and started the Age of Alchemy. It's entirely possible the ancient foundations are still there, but their goals and methods have become opposite to the ways of their Mudokon counterparts. What if, at one time in the past, the role of Glockstar was some kind of holy standing and has been perverted? The schism between the two peoples was over religious disagreements in regards to the favour of the gods of Oddworld and interpretations of the signs identifying their "chosen race," after all.
    So, following this line of thought, Lulu wouldn't just be a loser, a down-and-out, a washed-up has-been. He's a heretic. The language is different, but the basic understanding would remain the same. He's now a social pariah, with a stigma he'll never get away from because, under Abe's influence, he did something so stupid, so reckless, and so un-Glukkon with his newfound fortune, that he's barely considered a member of the same people now, especially compounded with the gabbiar going missing and the destruction of Vykker Labs (no doubt also a major contributor to Mudos's economy) being blamed on him. Before then, he was just a joke. Now, he's a cautionary tale.

But unlike Molluck or brewmaster, he doesn’t pose that much of a threat to Abe or Munch and is mostly just an unknowing pawn in their plan to save the mudokon eggs and gabbiar. Compared to the other Glukkons in the series, Lulu is rather harmless, if a bit of an oblivious jerkass.

    Maybe Lulu is Molluck himself after Soulstorm Brewery "disaster". Maybe Molluck will end up "forgiven" by Lady Margaret, and spared by Magog Cartel investors ? But in exchange, Molluck will have to give up about his ambitions and goals, and his will to settle things with Abe...
    "Molluck", now all the others Glukkons will call him "Lulu" as a sign of hating and mocking him because of his failures. And the fact that he's "responsible" (Abe is) for the loss of RuptureFarms and Soulstorm Brewery will be the reason why he's considered as incompetent.
