I just can't agree more on those 11 things. Certanly there are far more than that we may be aware of and pay attention the impact it cause on our daily progress towards our goals and dreams.
Thank you very much Greg for all the extremely valuable content you've being sharing with all of us.
PS: Definitely you're not in my unfollow list 😅

Thank you for the great video! I run a (new) engineering firm, and I like the idea of productized services. My industry has a reputation for being full of firms trapped in the "race to the bottom." The tips you have presented in this video have been encouraging because I can see there is a better way to do business.

Totally! It’s easier to stand out and lead the pack when you’re the only one innovating. Get after it!

Greg Im a remodeling contractor who wants to learn to focus my business offerings on one thing. I'm having trouble choosing what service to provide consistantly mainly because the jobs are all over the place. I do random jobs as they come in like a basement remodel this month, bathroom remodel next month, deck the next week, etc. I stay business however it's tough to build a system around doing all these things. Any tips on where to start?

Your services may not need to be narrow but if you narrow your ideal client to be super specific, the LEAD project can probably become pretty repeatable. Here's an example (while prob not a great one, I hope it gets the point across) - If you were the remodeling contractor for entrepreneurs. YOu might always start with a home office remodel. that is the lead offer. That may lead into additional projects but they are always for entrepreneurs.
      Make sense?

As a software agency business person, I find the productized service idea both interesting and challenging. The nature of the business is that every project is different and cannot be commodified as one size fits all.
All the problems are so relatable, though.
Still thinking how much of the service offering can we make a repeatable process to minimize the unique touch.

What do you mean software agency business person? Like, a developer?

I need to hear more about being seen as expert marketer and not a hired hand. This is infuriating. How do you express this to the client who does this? Preferably without losing them but maintaining what Greg‘s talking about here.

    • @gregoryjhickman
      @gregoryjhickman  2 года назад +1

In my experience If they aren’t treating you like an expert now it’s tough to change that. Expertise is something that is demonstrated in the front end before the sale. In marketing, positioning, the sales process etc.
It’s also how you set expectations in fulfillment.
Sometimes the old clients have to go for the new (better ones) to come in.

@@gregoryjhickman WOW sometimes clients don't understand what we as digital marketing people do no matter how well we explain it to them. The data doesn't lie. They go on what others who don't know marketing are saying So that's kind of a non answer Greg. But thanks.

@Hit-The-Web Marketing Greg is spot on with his recommendation. It is extremely difficult to change a business owner's perception once they are already a client. I don't go to my dentist, telling them what to do to my teeth based on what others have told me. Either you trust who you hire, or you don't.
It's up to us to set proper expectations from the beginning and, if they don't trust us enough to let go of the reigns, then find someone that DOES trust our skills as marketers.
@carol scalzo - if you had a line of other clients waiting to work with you, would you care about clients that are difficult to work with, or would you move on?
