Couldn’t have said it better myself, The Urban Gentry is my go to watch channel because of its professional and informative content, it’s that good it should be on Netflix.
The Seiko is amazing value. So much watch for the money. However, I just can’t take my eyes of the Nautilus. The finishing and refinement is breathtaking! Agree about the gold on the Seiko, looks a bit cheap. Stainless steel model looks better. Great video.
If you think the SNKK52 looks like the nautilus, check this Seiko out ifunny.co/fun/e9EytCRz7?s=cl The funny thing about this model is that the design predates the Nautilis by five years.
Absolutely do more of these head-to-head videos TGV. I think it's a great way to marry the higher end offerings that Watchbox brings to the table with the more affordable budget-minded foundation your channel has been built on. Excellent video, and I love the stacks of money in the background when you had the Patek on your wrist!!
I can honestly say that Seiko got me into caring about watches and tkme keeping. It will always hold a special place in my heart and they will always have them as my go to brand. Thank you for this!
lucarsmyself the blue dials were hard enough to pick up without this video.. and that was a few years back. Now I’m not even going to attempt the ebay search
I have the SNKK52 as well. I absolutely love it. I don’t mind the slightly noisy movement, either. It gives it character and lets you know it’s mechanical!
This guy is legit. I’ve always been a huge fan of iconic timepieces, but my pocket holds me back everytime cuz usually they are highly priced. I’ve discovered an unbelievable range of watches that are cheap and iconic at the same time. Kudos man. Subscribed.
Right? Hell, even my Orient Kamasu that cost around 0,2% of the Nautilus price (!!) hacks. Then again, the Nautilus / Royal Oak have always been about status first and foremost, and in that regard, who cares about specs and bang for buck haha
To TGV, Im a 20 year old man who just started collecting watches as i grew up watching my father do the same. Because of you, I have found some awesome time pieces that wont cost my arm and leg and you have also given me insight as to what to buy when my budget eventually grows. Tip of the hat to you friend and I wish you all the best. Thanks for great content. Kind regards, Anonymous fan.
When I saw the gold Seiko 5, I was shocked that it was only $100! This would make a great series - ultra expensive watches that inspired quality, popular and inexpensive descendants.
Alas, there is still one Seiko that has not hit your radar: the SNE039. This is a 37mm daily-wearer with an unusually high quality case, dial, and solid link bracelet with subtle features similar to the Omega Aqua Terra and Rolex Datejust. The high quality construction and detail of the SNE039 create a bit of an outlier in a sub-$150 Seiko and i have plenty of Seiko models for comparison. It's enough to make you think this design was a Seiko R&D project to build the highest level of fit-and-finish into a moderately-priced, solar movement timepiece. Worth a closer look --you will be surprised! Great work TGV, as always.
TGV i love every video you put out, my personal favorite are the ones you do about watches under $1000 that are somehow unique like the Junghans Max Bill, the Lorier brand, even one like nth or squale. but you dont miss they are all pure solid gold
You will be happy to know I will always continue to showcase such brands as I always have, Next week I have an exclusive new brand you will love. You have great taste btw, thank you :D O&U! Best regards, TGV
I am new to the hobby, Seiko was my first watch followed by an Orient, these watches I can afford, the comparison watch video was useful, and will push me to my next watch find adventure, Seiko needs to work on style, keep these type of reviews coming. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for this comparison. Interesting as a style of review but also because I'm such a HUGE fan of the snkk52. After looking at it for years but never deciding to get it my girlfriend bought it for a as I finally passed my driving licence and became a father in the same week. It's stuck to my wrist now and works with a surprisingly wide range of outfits. If these two watches cost the same I would still go for the seiko as I just prefer it's geometry although I do agree about the bracelet. I'd like to echo what others have noted about your respect for affordable but well made watches, classy indeed. Again thank you Guv, all the best!
I purchased this watch and very excited. I just realized that the bracelet isn’t adjustable via removing links. Has anyone run into issues at all ie too tight or too big? I have a 7 inch wrist, and I do perfect my bracket watches to be a little looser. Would like to hear anyone’s thoughts or experiences with it
Both of these are obviously iconic timepieces, I’ve owned a Seiko 5 since 1982 and although I’m never going to be in the market for a five figure watch I really am starting to “get” the Nautilus.
Thank you Peter, I am very much the same way, not really a Patek fan, but I respect the history. How do. you feel about the Royal Oak or the Overseas just out of interest? Always happy to hear from you, enjoy your Seiko 5! Best regards, TGV
The Urban Gentry Regarding the Overseas, another watch I was initially less than convinced about...I now find that it has grown on me to the point where it is probably my favourite “Holy Grail” iteration. I absolutely love it, especially the brown dial version.
I have the Seiko 7017 and the 6139 that you show in your video. Terrific design, technology, and execution that is finally getting the accolades that is deserved. Thank you for showing this improbable comparison except for someone working at your level.
I've been fleeting in and out of this channel for some time now but after seeing this video, I just had to sub. I feel like I've just been on a crash course in horology. Thanks !!!
In the mad mad world I am so glad that the sane dimension still exists such a balanced review not just objectively but also the balance of Emotions Love seiko myself since I can't invest in a nautilus so I got a high grade copy, and even that cost a fortune only to realise that seiko is original and a lot better than the fake .... and night glow is indeed the best Thank you for your reviews
That Seiko Gold plating looks like "the gold trim" package for a 1990's Lexus. It's just the wrong hue. For a company as large and as capable as Seiko …. perhaps a gold filled or gold rolled would be a better (though more costly) option. In other words … plate watches with real gold, and do so in a thick manner … making sure the gold matches the hue of haute horology watches.
Hi Urban G, Big fan! Thank you for all your content! Im a watch collector in NYC and own Buzz martial arts, a martial arts school. Also member of the Redbar group NYC underground watch club. Found this Gold Seiko before summer 2019. Love it! I’ll take it over the Nautilus any day and pocket the Patel money instead!
My wife (then fiancée) bought me a Seiko Quartz gold-tone watch in 1984, which I still have. 33mm across, 8mm thick, 70 grams. It seems so small now. The plating has a 18K look, which doesn’t quite match my 14K wedding band. The plating has worn off a little bit on the edge of the clasp and some of the links. However, the plating on the case, although showing 36 years of use, is still solid with no wear-through points.
TGV is a gentlemen and a scholar. God bless you. I’m grateful for your consistency and character. You’ve remained humble and genuine. I appreciate what you do.
I enjoyed the comparison but I've never looked at the Seiko 5 and thought it resembled a Nautilus. It looks far too different to me. I'd like more of these though.
Grear review. I have looked for both the blue and white dial Seikonaut before with no luck. I do own a FC Highlife with the blue dial and it clearly is inspired by Patek both the Aquanaut and Nautilus. I paid $1200 for mine new. It has a solita movement and it is a chronometer. I will get the seiko if I find the blue dial.
Another good budget version is Omega Seamaster Polaris, got one myself. They can be had for around 300 preowned if your not choosey in regards to special features. It isn't even a homage since Genta is said to have designed it, has solid gold details, awesome integrated bracelet and clasp [they even added the same bracelet onto the 200m a few years later] with the go to Omega clasp of that time and it is Omega ... who doesn't love Omega? The only cons there are that it is quartz, they did make a Automatic at the larger 40mm for certain markets which is particularly rare. As such no exhibition case either. But clearly the positives outweigh the negatives.
I don't think a display case back is one of the 5 traits that define a Seiko 5, at least not originally. Many early Seiko 5's have a simple steel case back. I think the traits missing from the list in the video are something like shock resistance and a durable main spring. I don't recall the strap being part of the Seiko 5 story, but I can't find it on a Seiko site anymore anyway.
I wish I discovered your channel an hour before checking out an SRPB86K1 Seiko. I am a watch newb but learning so much more now. Thanks, and oh, enjoyed this video very much.
Enjoyable format and looking forward to more. TGV, your originality, personality, and thorough coverage of the subject matter give the larger watch sites a run for their money.
Thanks for the great laid back info for a newbie. Didn't know there was a micro adjustment on the clasp of my bracelet. The watch shop that fit my watch didn't tell me. Thanks. Enjoy your great show.
For another modestly priced watch review, how about reviewing the Tissot Quickster? A beautiful Swiss quartz chronograph at a great price. I liked the white face/black hour markers, with black leather band best, which I purchased.
Hello I am a 12 year old boy and I want to start collecting watches once I get my own job. Right now I have a nice looking watch that gifted to me on my birthday. Thank you for reminding me that are cheaper alternatives, great video.
Thanks for doing this excellent comparison and review, TGV! I wear Seiko's SNK355 (silver dial), SNK361 (black dial), and SNKL41 (cream dial) versions all the time and receive many compliments and questions. I love them because they're so wearable for almost any occasion, and because they're properly sized and proportioned. Unlike many of the larger, chunkier watches that have been so popular over the past few of decades, with the Seikos it looks like I'm wearing the watch, not like the watch is wearing me ; )
Got five Seiko pieces and three of them are 5s. They sit nicely in a case along side my Vacheron Constantin, Ulysse Nardin, Jaquet Droz, Jaeger LeCoultre, Girard Perregaux, Omega, Longines, Hamilton etc etc. Seiko used their commercial brains when they started making quartz, and did not throw out old skills and technology. They had all the patterns, tooling and skilled workforce for mechanical watchmaking, but instead of making it all redundant for the sake of quartz technology, they designed the 5 line and made yet another success with what everyone thought was out dated and soon to be buried mechanical watch-making. (those crafty loveable Japanese, what Hugo?)
Excellent comment, you are a true watch enthusiast to the core. You have my respect. Thank you for taking the time to share that. O&U! Best regards, TGV
Just wanted to say thank you for producing the content which you do. I ordered a cheap casio and during its shipment I kind of went down the rabbit hole, and now I have a Bulova from 1959 on the way :) As a lady I always thought of this hobby as a quite masculine hobby, but then I thought who cares? Again thank you very much.
My father is the reason I buy watches. He loves a Seiko. That was his first brand watch. He grew up in El Salvador. He saved 4 months of work, harvesting sugar cane. Just To buy a seiko watch. To me, it the family history behind it that makes it have value.
I have a seiko nautilus (stainless case/band with black face) and I’m shocked in 2023 at how the value has increased. Bought it new for $140 and see them regularly selling on eBay used for over 3 times that.
Sure, the Seiko 5 doesn't look as well refined and finished as the PP - but who expected that it would? For the price, the Seiko 5 looks remarkably well on the wrist and pulls off the duty of being a "gold watch" very well. Definitely going to look into the Seiko 5, never know when you want to bust out all gold lol ... Pretty impressed that it's a modest 35mm and 10.4mm thick. Only thing that would make it better for me is making a no-date version.
TGV, these Seiko 5 Nautilus going now on chrono24 and ebay for 400-800$ they are so rare and beautifull that they sell them for crazy prices. Im glad im one of luckiest ones to buy snkk47 for 105€ today i cant wait to get it to my home and put it on the wrist. Cheers!
Thank you TGV to give Seiko 5 such an honorable mention. The 50 fathoms, mini explorer white dial snkd97 and black dial Snke01, love them 😍. Big smile and pure joy when you wear. Funny thing when you sell your collection watches Seiko 5 goes nowhere. Love this review, more please.
You just can't beat these dressier Seiko 5's for the money. Full of character, wear brilliantly and look far nicer on the wrist than the price suggests. Nice detailed comparison sir ⌚v⌚ 👍
The Seiko is at my price point, I own 3 different models of them and one citizen eco drive. and enjoy them all at different times. One of the Seiko's is 30+ years old and after a tweak from a local watch maker keeps the best time of the 3 (not the quartz of course) I cant see me ever owning a Nautilus same as its unlikely I'll ever own a Bentley but that doesn't mean I cant appreciate that high end quality even if it is impractical for me. Fakes? Never. Great video, as always. :-)
Great value with the Sieko for sure. Btw... love this channel, your review on the Sinn 104 made me place an order on the limited run Blue version and, thanks to you, I also have a LACO Flieger as a backup.
the new iteration of Citizen's Corso, Bm7490-52e, looks like it's very much inspired by the Nautilus. Little bit more than the seiko at $260-350, but with sapphire glass and an eco drive quartz movement.
Great comparison. Love the blazer and the turtleneck combo. I’m not huge on dress watchers, more of a diver, chronograph guy. Very enjoyable review. Thanks TGV. SEIKO IS KING!!!
Seiko do indeed do some great affordable (sort of) homages. This is a very good comparative video. I'd love it if Seiko did a homage to a GMT Master II or an Explorer GMT...
The way you hold cheaper watches in such a high regard is true class and shows your passion for timepieces. Thank you TGV!
Thank you Matthew, your comment is pure class and shows just as much passion.
You have my respect sir!
O&U!
Best regards,
TGV
Cheaper nay... less expensive 👍
Yes. A very classy comment. I have watches that cost $600 down to $15 and I enjoy them all.
I can’t like this comment enough!

Agree about the gold on the Seiko, looks a bit cheap. Stainless steel model looks better. Great video.
Do you by chance know the reference on the stainless steel model? I can't find it online
@@UnseenHero it's SNKK47, but good luck finding it, if u do please tell me
David Topchiev what is?
If you think the SNKK52 looks like the nautilus, check this Seiko out

The funny thing about this model is that the design predates the Nautilis by five years.
I honestly missed the versus episodes where you compare similar watches, despite their price ranges. More of these episodes please :)
SEIKO 5 Gang rise up !
Loved the comparison !
Love these type of absurd comparisons. Absurd only because of the price difference but entirely awesome.
I can honestly say that Seiko got me into caring about watches and tkme keeping. It will always hold a special place in my heart and they will always have them as my go to brand. Thank you for this!
Finally my underrated Seiko is going mainstream. The SNKK52 is epic! Deserves much more attention. Thanks, TGV!
lucarsmyself the blue dials were hard enough to pick up without this video.. and that was a few years back. Now I’m not even going to attempt the ebay search
They’re going for £300? I thought they’re around 100 dollars?
I have the SNKK52 as well. I absolutely love it. I don’t mind the slightly noisy movement, either. It gives it character and lets you know it’s mechanical!
Seiko will always be a good choice if you don't have that much money, yet you want something of quality
Even if you have money, can't go wrong mate
Just rebought the SARB017, saved $6.5k (Explorer I) and got a little more uniqueness. Not Seiko vs. Patek, but still. I feel you.
This guy is legit. I’ve always been a huge fan of iconic timepieces, but my pocket holds me back everytime cuz usually they are highly priced. I’ve discovered an unbelievable range of watches that are cheap and iconic at the same time.

TGV, whenever I open one of these videos...my credit card sweats nervously in the background.
Lol
"Yes hello is this Patek? I've been on RUclips and I'm going to need two Nautiluses. Just put it on the card."
Aleksi Joensuu *Nautili 😇
I know, hard to resist that super affordable Royal Oak homage from PP
The 95th Phantom oh yeah! Mine as well. 😂
Wait, the Nautilus doesn't hack??? My bits were thoroughly unchuffed. Ok ciao!
You can rechuff your bits the current 26-330 S C movement hacks.
I don't know of any patek that hack.😅
Right? Hell, even my Orient Kamasu that cost around 0,2% of the Nautilus price (!!) hacks. Then again, the Nautilus / Royal Oak have always been about status first and foremost, and in that regard, who cares about specs and bang for buck haha
Great video. Keep it up. I actually have a Nautilus with blue dial.
I am facing such a hart time right now, but your videos are always helpling me to calm down, take the mind of my problems. Thank you
The steel version is definitely more my style. Never realized how much this Seiko case shape was similar to the nautilus until now. Great Video
I have one for sale

I’ve had this watch for about 6 months I love it wear it almost every day
Everyone loves affordable, quality watches. Keep doing these videos!
Look at the close-up, the finishing of the gold Seiko 5 is just good, better than many mid range watches.
Agree, got one it looks fabulous
This is the only intro I like and actually get excited for on youtube ♥️
love that Seiko perpetual calendar
I finally got my sarb 033... I can’t imagine anything more stylish and perfect than this...
Why hasn't Patek upgraded their movement to hack and give longer power reserve. I truly don't understand that
Wait ? Patek didn't have hack to the movement 0.o
@John Benedict tfw when she says: "that's not even a Rolex"
(Not knocking Rolex, just saying normies don't know a thing)
and with pin steel bracelet!

Just wear a Cartier Tank, most people that know nothing about watches will know the shape of a Cartier Tank.
Patek is my dream watch ☺️
The finishing on the Seiko 5 is immaculate
Your words really stick into my mind when you said "I enjoy my affordable watches just as much as the luxurious one"
Such a pure class
When I saw the gold Seiko 5, I was shocked that it was only $100! This would make a great series - ultra expensive watches that inspired quality, popular and inexpensive descendants.

I love all your vids TGV, but especially the ones that focus on more budget friendly options!

Loved your tone and comparison, fair and in depth. Thank you.
I got the snkk47 (black dial) and it is my favoritt watch.. after the Datejust ofc!
Great video!
I enjoyed the comparison but I've never looked at the Seiko 5 and thought it resembled a Nautilus. It looks far too different to me. I'd like more of these though.

Wow I was torn between these two watches and just couldn't make up my mind. Now I know which one to buy, thanks!
If you want a reliable watch that looks flashy and you don't want to re mortgage the house, the Seiko 5 is probably the better option

Thanks for the great laid back info for a newbie. Didn't know there was a micro adjustment on the clasp of my bracelet. The watch shop that fit my watch didn't tell me. Thanks. Enjoy your great show.
Love the introduction and background music.
For another modestly priced watch review, how about reviewing the Tissot Quickster? A beautiful Swiss quartz chronograph at a great price. I liked the white face/black hour markers, with black leather band best, which I purchased.

Your style is majestic
Keep it up brother love from India 🇮🇳
Thanks for doing this excellent comparison and review, TGV! I wear Seiko's SNK355 (silver dial), SNK361 (black dial), and SNKL41 (cream dial) versions all the time and receive many compliments and questions. I love the Nautilus: sublime simplicity at its best. I'd never pay 100,000 $ for it, but hey, I still admire it.

Just great, a watch I have been hunting for for a while now it's gonna get hit by the "Gentry Tax". Lol great video.
Spot on, the all steel versions seem to be going for about $300 Canadian up here!
I have one for sale lmk if you want it

I have a seiko nautilus (stainless case/band with black face) and I’m shocked in 2023 at how the value has increased. Bought it new for $140 and see them regularly selling on eBay used for over 3 times that.
Vostok 2416 movements also snap instantly at midnight. 💪😉
The Marc and Sons professional diver 3 has a good nautlius feel thanks to the case being symmetrical! A would highly suggest you take a look !
Maybe the next video might be a comparison between a Cartier Tank and a Seiko SUP880P1? :)
Great video as always! It’s really nice to see that you did not change all your content and it’s quality since the partnership :)
I like this kind of watch review contents..it is amazing👏
Hi Tristano ! Where to buy best affordable milanese (mesh) bracelet ?
Yes, I would be interested in an Overseas review from you TGV
Sure, the Seiko 5 doesn't look as well refined and finished as the PP - but who expected that it would? For the price, the Seiko 5 looks remarkably well on the wrist and pulls off the duty of being a "gold watch" very well. Definitely going to look into the Seiko 5, never know when you want to bust out all gold lol ... Pretty impressed that it's a modest 35mm and 10.4mm thick. Only thing that would make it better for me is making a no-date version.
What a classy comparison
What a splendid video sir. 👏🏼
Excellent video. Please, more of these
TGV, these Seiko 5 Nautilus going now on chrono24 and ebay for 400-800$ they are so rare and beautifull that they sell them for crazy prices. Im glad im one of luckiest ones to buy snkk47 for 105€ today i cant wait to get it to my home and put it on the wrist. Cheers!
had this watch for a while. love that piece
HAhaha love it! Only Tgv can do a comp of a seiko 5 vs a nautilus🤪. Great stuff tgv. Absolute fun !
I have had my eye on an all gold Seiko. Very much enjoyed seeing this one. Thanks!
i have it as snkk 47 k1. The case is well done. The bracelet is...let it..and unfortunately is really difficult to find a strap for it..
Wow! Interesting comparison...can't wait till the end..
I’m guessing the White dial version of the Nautilus will be even more rare now! I’ll probably end up settling for the Patek.
Great value with the Sieko for sure.
Btw... love this channel, your review on the Sinn 104 made me place an order on the limited run Blue version and, thanks to you, I also have a LACO Flieger as a backup.
Bought one agter this video, still loving it
May I ask where you got yours? Thank you
the new iteration of Citizen's Corso, Bm7490-52e, looks like it's very much inspired by the Nautilus.
