Four years older. I witnessed three years watching JD playing QB @ ASU stadium. Had problem finding secondary targets. Prefered tucking ball and run. Suggestion get Herm Edwards on and get his oppion of his former QB. Luck @ Indy ran right out of football. JD frame would lead to injury??? How that would impact his career sitting on bench mending an injury.
I like both Daniels and Maye. Jayden Daniels needs to add 15-20 pounds, looks like a stiff wind or linebacker could put this kid in the hospital. Maye has a high ceiling and is still a dual threat.
Drake Maye is Cam Newton circa 2020. A big guy who can run and has the arm to throw a beautiful 50-yard pass, and the consistency to throw a 5-yard out in the dirt or to a WR in triple coverage right after that.
I love Jaden and Drake. Either way, they are both playing in cold weather environments, Washington and New England. I believe Drake will be better in the cold, but eventually we’re going to find out regardless.
excellent analysis l. Didn’t agree with the absolutes though such as what Drake or JD can or can’t physically do. They will both get stronger and for JD bigger. Everyone knows that a 23 or 21 year old male is not done maturing mentally and physically. SO what it boils down to is who will have the better coaching and team support- Oline, Wrs etc
Jayden Daniels reminds me of Robert Griffin III coming out of college. I know Washington has a new brain trust but I wonder if what happened with Griffin gives them second thoughts about Daniels. So Drake Maye to the Pats is questionable.
Great way to say absolutely nothing new... It's Daniels or bust... Drake Meh? He must remind them of Brady or something if they're thinking of going that direction
Look at all the Super Bowl champion QBs and you will see one thing they all have in common is they are big body, resilient individuals (Brady, Mahomes, Manning, Stafford, Foles). Even Russ for a shorter guy is built solid. When was the last time some agile scrambling QB like Daniels won the Super Bowl? Can’t think of it.
Nope. They need to fix the OL, get a couple of decent receivers (either by draft or trade), sign a free agent QB or two, and plug a couple of other holes on defense (edge rusher, nose tackle, another CB). Plugging Drake Maye into this crap will look like four more years of Mac Jones.
Pass on them both. Maye is a long term prospect (if he makes it) and Daniels is a one read QB like Fields but with different mechanics. He can't run as fast as Fields either. Pats should trade down a bit and chose Bo Nix or Michael Penix instead of Daniels. Forget Maye anywhere in round one.
Listen jaylen or Harrison with 3 pick is way too go. The problem with maye he seems to need more around him to be successful than the other 2. I know people want a quarterback and I get it. But smart patriots fan’s know we have a bunch of holes to fill. If you keep the 3 pick draft the best left on board regardless of position.
Taylor Kyles & Phil Perry both broke down the Pro's & Con's for QB's Drake Mayes & Jayden Daniels perfectly. ---Playing in cooler New England with a small frame and small hands could negatively effect Jayden Daniels. ---Drake Mayes has larger hands and a larger frame. But his footwork sucks.
I think the smart move is to clean slate and draft QB at 3 and keep Mac. Have open competition for job. Need 2QBs in the league anyway. Idc about Zappe he can try too whatever. And Jacoby Brisket. All 4 battle with equal full support!!
Mac is getting traded to the jags his hometown and I think we will also get a vet QB to train whoever we draft, get a few good receivers, fix the oline and grab a few defensive pieces
I wish someone would look into Daniel’s’ numbers vs pressure, which are apparently much worse than Caleb or Mayes’ numbers. When a very mobile guy also has bad numbers vs pressure I think that says that he’s not processing well.
Daniels is the best of all Qb’s under pressure… PFF Article : In 2023, he faced pressure on 25.5% of his dropbacks and in these situations, he had a PFF grade of 82.2 and a passer rating of 123.5. While he didn’t face a ton of pressure, he was really effective when he did, and this is extremely important for quarterback prospects.
I fear this may happen and we may have another RG# situation. I honestly don't know much about this kid and hope unlike RG# he can recognize defenses pre-snap? Can he keep his eyes down field? One positive is he doesn't appear to have the unearned ego Griffin had.
I don’t know why they change the rankings so much after the season is over. Everyone thinks Maye is #2 at the end of the season, so I’m not sure why he’s moving down now
I think all Boston media crazy. Trade back get tackle and wide receiver and trade up for pennix. Get Barkley and Tyrone from Dallas. Run the ball this year. Probably still suck get QB next year if needed
I can’t understand why Penix isn’t top 3 talk. It’s either his age, injuries or his left hand because dude can place the ball like none other. Not as mobile but best overall arm talent by far in my book
It's not about the size of the dog in the fight but the fight in the dog. This is a fare question I'm about to ask every Patriots fan out there. If we had Lamar Jackson over these past few years. Where do you think we would be right now? Would you guys take Lamar or any Drake Maye Comparison?
And that’s my entire point ..Due to Bills Bias we missed out on Lamar..I mean this is Boston and they’re still looking for that great white hope…Brady is gone the league has changed!!
Do you really want to draft a QB now? Why not trade back for more draft capital and build your team for a year or two. Next year Shedur Sanders is coming out and the year after that is Arch Manning. I’d build the trenches and take my QB of the future when the team is ready to rock. That’s just me.
A 15 min interview. Your kidding me. That is what going to make your decision. One question to JD-why ASU players didn't miss himm when mhe left ASU. Good question to ask. Next Tyler Murray??? At 6'-4" and weighing 200 lbs. Injury about to happen. He is also 23, should have filled out by now.
Horribly overrating everything about Maye Big arm? When? Lol. Great runner? Show me one time he ran away from any defense He’s lucky if he’s Sam Darnold
I keep saying this. If Jayden Daniels isn't there at pick #3, take MHJ, then trade up for a OT with the next pick either way. If we can't get Jayden at Qb this year. Bet the farm for Sanders next year but I really want Jayden Daniels for our team because of everything he will fix asap
Jayden Daniels has the frame of Tom Brady when he was a rookie. I have a Tom Brady rookie card that lists him at 199 lbs. 🤣 Except Tom was a pocket passer.
JJ McCarthy is NOT a top 4, not even close. McCarthy had a great team, Michigan did NOT win because of him. If the Patriots trade down to get him they are only saving money, it is that simple.
When a running QB wins a SB then I will get on board. When it is fourth and four on four yard line and his natural instinct is to run the four yards for TD to win game. I will every day take TB and the four yards over any running QB. The mental part of game over physical ability every day of the week. The rules of the game protects the QB today. Can't touch them. Watch Mahomes get extra yardage when near sideline because defense eases up.
I edge Drake Maye over Daniels because of where they would be playing football, outside in the northeast weather of New England. I do not want to rush Maye into playing this season. Especially if the O-Line is not in a good situation yet.
Maye. How is this even a question. Daniels seems like an inferior version of Justin Fields. He is relatively old, skinny, has a tendency to take big hits, doesn’t have a strong arm and doesn’t really attack the middle of the field like most successful NFL QB’s. Daniels also had a good OL and elite skill players that helped make him look good. He is less than a year younger than Justin Fields which doesn’t bode well for his ability to add size while maintaining his athletic ability. Being skinny and taking big hits is not a good combo for a dual threat QB.
None, pick JJ and move on. He's a hybrid between Maye and Daniels. Big, accurate, runs, players and coaches love him, has a cannon of an arm and is younger. He's the future.
I think the NFL is going through a terrible trend of falling in love with the running quarterback. A passer that can also scramble is not a running quarterback. Aaron Rodgers Russell Wilson Patrick Mahomes are not running QBs.I don't want my quarterback to have any intention of running the ball and I don't think his receivers want either. The quarterbacks job in the NFL is to throw the ball. Will we ever see high-level quarterback play in the NFL again? Doubtful. Remember Tom Brady?
Fortunately, Daniels isn't a 'running quarterback', given that his passing statistics bury Caleb Williams and Drake Maye's alike. No, Marvin Harrison Jr, then move back up in the draft for JJ McCarthy. Marvin Harrison Jr is a generational wide receiver. He may be the best wide receiver in the NFL once he arrives. Everyone says the quarterback is the most important position, the receiver makes the quarterback. (except Mahomes and Brady) I'm certain that Daniels style of play will land him on the injury list. If you look at JJ McCarthy he has escape ability and can throw dimes on the run. When he scrambles it is to buy time to find someone open. If he does have to run he is more than capable. We discount what JJ can do because he was part of an offense and not the whole offense while they were on their way to a championship.
I don't quite get why Phil says "Imagine Drake Maye in two years playing with Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas". In two years Nabers and Thomas will still be with the teams that drafted them, probably in the 1st round. No matter which QB we pick. It's highly unlikely Nabers & Thomas will ever be on the Pats. When their rookie deal is up they'll probably be re-upped by their original team, cost a king's ransom in free agency or bust, in which case we probably would want them.
Trade down. Fix the roster with the extra pick (or picks). THAT'S what you do here. Unless you're an idiot. Then, you take Drake Maye at #3 and become the NY Jets.
