Indian defence industry only learns after setbacks. Take the case of Galwan which forced Indian military to Fastrack various platforms like qrfv, Kestrel, lch, luh various missiles which would have otherwise been delayed.

@John Hero India won't go for armed drones, as the way they have failed in Ukraine. Loitering munitions, Swarm drones and kamikaze ones are the answers and they have already inducted some of these and working on towards this doctrine.

@John Hero it's not about using armed drones against Pakistan. Even though the accidental BrahMos launch exposed our neighbour's poor air defence, but the bigger risk is if one of these drones get shot down on the other side of LoC, it's wreckage will be handed over to China, that's it. Thanks to their expertise in reverse engineering, a copy of it will come up and India's advantage will be gone. Compared to that, things like swarm drones, kamikaze ones and loitering munitions are specialised for suicide missions and are cost effective as well.

@John Hero Armed drones can work in Afghanistan but not against Pakistan or China with powerful missiles. Rafale Brahmos and S-400 can take care of anything in Pakistan.

Big congrats to all engineers and technicians -let no politician come (instead of defence minister) and sing while reading from the tele prompter. Maybe in the next build the IAC will have indigenous engine instead of GE LM2500. It's going to be Indian ship hence should have an Indian engine at its heart. Same thing applies for Tejas aircraft. Also for IAC use CATOBAR instead of STOBAR, preferably again home grown.'

@@spaceinvader992 photo ops is different from ground facts. Russia and india have uneasy partnership due to russia tilt towards china and india title towards usa. However both of them are aware of the past friendship and their necessity to keep china in balance. If india ditches russia then it will create more problems for india then it will fix like Pakistan get cheap and decent weapons from russia, keep china engaged in different borders in all directions, tech transfer to india(only russia does this). Also russia can fill fuel needs when middle East islamic states get paranoid, veto power which proved useful on topic of Kashmir, make it hard for india. Considering all these it's difficult for india to say anything strong against russia. Having said that India is trying to get middle ground in intrest of India. I am pretty sure modi would have spoken to russia as india calls it Russian aggression and not as special operation.

It is good that Russia did not give the steel needed to fabricate Vikrant. It is also good that the Chinese and Pakistanis are breathing down India's throat. Situation like these spurs us to find solutions. I was speaking to a very senior engineer at Rourkela Steel Plant who was involved in the project. His pride and self satisfaction spoke more than a thousand words. It is lack of funding that holds India back. There is so much talent that we can do it. In the fabrication of Vikrant about 75% of the money has been ploughed back into our economy. Skill and job creation was the plus factor. At least our people are getting skilled jobs. Likewise if the border threat had not erupted the Chinese would have continued slicing our territory. Now that has stopped to a great extent and our troops are getting more confident in meeting the challenges with new weapon induction.

@@sudhanshu1208 Cause they want to do that to save money......We are still in primitive mindset of 2 layers of Defense with Barak 8 & Last Ditch provided by Almost Obsolete AK630 CIWS.
Whereas,a 7400-8000 tonnes displacement should have:
      127mm Naval Gun/76mm Naval Gun
16 cells VLS for Bramhos ER
16 cells VLS for ASW Missiles
8 cells VLS for LR LACM/Kalibr/Zircon
32 cells VLS for Barak 8ER
      8 cells VLS for 32 VL SRSAM/ESSM
      16 cells VLS for SM3/BMD/SM6
2 Pantsir M/PALMA/RIM116/SeaRam CIWS with SRSAM Missiles with range of 8-15km as last line of Defense.

      2 Triple Torpedo tubes

In reality our Destroyers are Frigates,Frigates are Corvettes,Corvettes are FAC/OPV in terms of firepower & protection.
Just wasting money in name of larger hulls with practically nothing substantial in its armed packages.
Indian Navy should have opted for Light Friagtes based on Kamorta Class Designs, instead of Larger White Elephants.
These Frigates can come armed with:
      76mm Oto Melara
16 cells VLS for Barak 8ER
8 cells VLS for 8 ASW Missiles
      8 cells VLS for 32 VL SRSAM/ESSM
16 SSM in Cannisters(4×4),configuration like KH35/NSM/RBS15/Sea Breaker/Bramhos NG or others.
      2 CIWS like Pantsir M/PALMA/RIM116
      2 Triple Torpedo tubes
Each frigate to cost around 375-450 million dollars per unit with complete package.
12 such frigates could have been built at considerable expense.
Now,coming to Corvettes, instead of running separate NGC ,NGMV & others, they could have merged the program with minor modifications based on Enlarged Saryu/Sukanya Class OPV designs armed with:
      76mm Oto Melara
      12 cells VLS for 48 VL SRSAM/ESSM
12 cells VLS for ASW Missiles
      16 SSM in Cannisters(4×4)

India needs another carrier - rather than going for new design for bigger, expensive carrier, slightly longer version of INS Vikrant can be constructed in half the time, because the knowledge and experience is there. This can possibly be inducted before 2030. CATOBER style carrier should be planned for next decade and inducted around 2040.

    Is Russia really a friend?
    1) When India wanted to build its own aircraft carrier (INS Vikrant), Russia blocked the sale of steel to India. It took DRDO 3 years to develop the required special steel.
    2) For Brahmos 2, Russia refused to give ramjet technology and other critical technologies to India so now India is developing its own ramjet engine.
    3) Although India bought/assembled more than a 1000 Mig aircrafts from Russia/Soviet, but they never gave the critical technologies and source code to India. Even for the 5th gen planned joint aircraft fighter, Russia refused to share source code. So now India is developing the 5th gen aircraft (AMCA) on its own.
    4) Russia never cared to give jet engine technology to India although we have jointly built more than 1000 Mig aircrafts.
Basically, Russia is mainly interested in selling to India and keeping India dependent on Russian technology without sharing it with India.

Russia is the biggest looters of taxpayers money. Russian are selling cheap equipments to India but it's maintenance cost are very high. Service availability of Russian aircraft are less than 40%. Armed forces are attracted for Russian equipments for low cost but in long term they are paying more for maintenance. Also see the performance of Russian equipments in Ukraine war. So don't waste taxpayers money for purchasing worthless inferior Russian equipments. Better produced indigenous or buy from western countries.

Western equipment is also junk, but overpriced katchraa. The only exception being their Turbofan jet engines, French & American military jets.

Russia has lack of sophistication, no semiconductor industries, always depends on West. No precision weapons maker. India has to buy precision weapons from Israel. Russia armed industries will collapse, just wait and watch ⌚️. Corruption and communism will finish Russia.
