I was there for the whole series of races that weekend, USAC, ACRA, and the Busch race. We camped next door to a couple who were involved with the race, he a tire changer for the #59, and his lady found a spot score keeping for #8 . We pulled up camp before the race, never to talk to them again, and didn't learn of tire wear until we were home, watching the highlights on ESPN.
This is the race they always tell fans about when they were going back n forth then they get called to the nascar hollar & they said Jr. & Tony crew chief got into a fight... One of my favorite stories.
Those Busch Cars are fast. My favorite series since the 2000's. Why? Because, the Busch Series was just as fast as the cup series was. Basically a cup car with horsepower from the mid to late 1980's. Does anyone know if there's video of the Busch/Sportsman Cup Series Cars at Daytona in 1982? I know they ran V2 Buick V6 engines. Till, 1995 when they switched to a V8 with a 390 Carburator. It's sad that NASCAR got rid or doesn't race at tracks like Pikes peak, Texas World Speedway,Riverside, Ontario,North Wilkesboro, Rockingham, Nazareth, New Smyrna Raceway, ORP, Mid Ohio Milwaukee Mile. If I could make a Speedway Track it would be the same layout as Texas World Speedway. Just in a state like Mississippi, Louisiana, Washington, Idaho, Montana even North Dakota. Now, I would make another track that would be the same layout as Riverside. So there's a Road Course, Speed way and my Superspeed way would be a Pre 1997 Atlanta Motor Speedway. Instead of 24 Banking Turns, make it 32 and 6 on the Straights and a 2 mile track. Make the Grand stands 30 to 35 feet away from the catch fence. No Carburator plates or Tapered Spacers. Wide open. I bet if I ran Nascar I could bring people back to racing. The last major thing I would do is bring Buick back. With, Pontiac and Oldsmobile. You like many others would be very surprised how how some of those cars would be in the draft. No "chase mode" just the old Winston Cup Series points racing. And, the Busch Clash would be 20 laps 50 miles long. With cash$ bonus on laps like lap 5,10,15 and the big one lap 20. That's what I miss about Nascar. And, That's how I would run. NASCAR. And last thing, racing starts at 12 to 1pm EST. The IROC series would be back. With Four major races. Thanks for hearing me out. Take care.

The beginning of a friendship between Tony and Dale. Both were pissed at each other after the race, but made up the next week in Milwaukee.

This is the race Tony & Jr. always talk about where they almost fought each other after the race when they had to go get chewed out by the boss.
Wish the XFINITY or Truck Series still raced here.
