To those who wonder why a miss was called. It is because there are easier ways to escape the snooker, he could for example aim for any of the reds after the top cushion. He didn't do that because that is a dangerous play, so he owned up to the "foul and a miss" penalties trying to get the fancier and safer escapes. Always remember, as long as there is an easier shot, a miss is always called no matter how close it is.
You and I may be the only 2 people in the world who understand the miss rule. Commentators definitely don't, and I do question whether referees do sometimes.
+Cream147player Well, It *is* one of the more arcane rules in the book, and the name of it doesn't help. They might as well rename it to "Anti-Professional-Foul Clause"
I'm pretty sure a miss is called if there is no advantage to the returning player....in other words, if the player attempting to get out of the snooker puts himself in a better position by fouling.....then a miss is called.
Nakadu This is incorrect. A miss is called when there is an easier shot to be made, and that shot wasn't made, either intentionally or unintentionally. What you are thinking of is the fact that the offended player gets to decide whether or not the offending player have to 1)play the shot again with everything respotted, 2)play the shot again from the current position, or 3) stop and let the offended player play the shot himself.
@talhajutt1 In Ronnie's match, Holt needed snookers, so the miss rule does not come into play. In this video, neither player is at the snookers required stage and the referee is calling a miss because he doesn't think Robertson has made a good enough attempt at the escape (for example a simpler escape would be to come off the baulk cushion and down for a 1-cushion escape, but Roberston doesn't want to do that as he'd almost certainly leave Bond with a good chance).
Great vid. Neil was so amused :) I would like to see videos of really really hard snookers, almost impossible ones. How many times would a player try until he'd surrender the frame. I mean, if a snooker is impossible/ almost impossible you are allowed to give up, aren't you?
Kasper Joonatan no you continue until you do a great effort and the refree dont call a miss if he sees that its impossible to hit, but you have to get so close so he dont call a miss, if you play a shot and you snook yourself you have 3 times to hit a ball or the refree call a frame for your oppenent, 3times for the same play but if you change the cushion or the way you hit the ball you're able to continue
If a player gets a 155 break, say on tv for example then would it actually be recorded as a break of 155 properly or are there any reasons for it to be perhaps marked only as a maximum 147 break? Great upload by the way!
What makes u sure that no one wants to hear that - do u think u speak on behalf of all other snooker fans, especially of all the german snooker fans? I watch snooker on Eurosport since 1994 and since then the german commentator Rolf Kalb always had a fantastic feeling how to explain and convey the fascination of snooker even to people who never knew something about snooker before. His commentation is one big reason for the extremely grown popularity of snooker in germany over all this years.
Was there a re-rack at the end? I think the commentator says just that ("Der Frame beginnt also komplett neu..."). If so, why? There was no stalemate...
Yes, principally I concur with ur opinion. But I'm not really sure if u noticed that in this clip also a co-commentator is talking ;-) Ok, from 1:48 - 3:17 only Rolf Kalb is talking the whole time but he just answers to fan-questions from the german snooker-forum and explains the rules why sometimes snooker-players got a "Miss" (like Neil in this case) even if they tried to play the "easiest" Red out of a snooker-position.But ok, I only wanted to explain that R.Kalb talks no senseless "blabla"^^
denis derenkov Yes, the white can end up right next to the pocket and a ball can by chance snuggle up to it and completely block its path away... happened to me before lol. I'm not good with the subtleties of the rules though, so I don't know what would happen, if it would happen. Also what was stopping Robertson from just pocketing the white in this video?
Robertson could pocket the white here but it would be of no advantage to him. It would be called as a foul and a miss just like his other failed attempts and Nigel Bond would have the cue ball replaced back to its original position.
No, i guess you are: The man is, as you pointed out so bright, a COMMENTATOR, his purpose is to comment on what´s going on, that`s why hes constantly talking, is that so hard to understand!?
@imichaeloo9 bond is prompted with 2 options ; let robertson play the exact same shot ( after foul ) again, or continue when he likes the position where the balls ended up after neil's mistake. He let robertson take the shot several times because it was pretty hard to take. And he wouldn't end up with a point/snooker anyway, thus letting neil shoot, shoot and shoot :)
because the rules say so. when one player (player a) makes a foul shot (and the other player (player b) doesn't need snookers to win) the ref calls a "foul and a miss". that means that the player b can chose either to play on or to accept the miss and have the player a play from where the cue ball was. Player b gains 4 points each time player a misses.
@sendahojust1 The referee can make use of the miss rule. If a player isn't going to do the easiest way to escape a Snooker, the referee can point out the miss rule and then the opponent can choose whether he wants to continue or let the player do it again.
I am new in snooker, why is the referee puttin tthe ball back?? Isn't that we start next cue on where the white stops if that is still blocked? and try at most three times?
To KingFofo666 : I am German and this guy still has very little knowledge about Snooker. Using f....words brings you down to the same level. Enjoy being there !
@sendahojust1 I'm not quite sure, but I don't think so. He would get ball in hand if his opponent pockets the white. But if you get miss three times and still don't make a regular shoot, you lose the frame. And yes, the rule is controversial.
Probably best the white went in off, this means it comes back to the D, rather than off the side cushion and down the table making it easier to pot a red.
The rule says: On a foul position, ask to the opponent if he wants to continue from the position where left otherwise balls are put to their previous position and player who fouled continuous the play.
Yes. The cue ball could end up surrounded by colors with no correct way to escape. I'm not sure though what the snookered player is supposed to do under such circumstances.
As a german speaker i think what he said was neccessary .. he explained why and how "miss" decisions are made and why almost every foul in a snooker is followed with a miss.
can anyone lease tell me that why the referee was putting the cue ball again and again on the same position but /watch?v=s1lyZl69VLc in this video he was not doing so what is the rule???
@talhajutt1 I think you can choose between two options: one you can play the position yourself, or two force the opponent to do so. every time your opponent makes an error you will get points for it.. I'm not sure how many times, but I think I heard the commentator say yesterday that it is max 3 times... I'm a snooker rookie, so I'm not that sure of myself ^^ but if you really want to know check out google ;)
leave rolf kalb (commentator) alone! he is a legend of snooker! maybe he does not have the best inside knowledge of the game, but still he is doing a very good job commentating! i started watching snooker only because of him!
If the cue ball is surrounded by colors the player has to target a red (as if there was a way to play it) and hit the cue ball hard enough to reach the red. Ofc it will be a foul, but not a miss. If there is a snooker after a foul there will be a free ball. Clear enough?
You insult a man who commented snooker on Eurosport since it is broadcasted in germany of having no knowledge of the game? And you relate this (wrong) statement to his nationality? Yep, f-word is reasonable here..
The British snooker commentators tend to pause and are often quiet whilst the player is taking the shot. This guy is chatting away 24/7 and people don't really wanna hear that.
I will tell you something else, there is a guy on RUclips who upload 8-ball and 9-ball videos from US pool tournaments. In every video there is 1 guy talking and talking and talking in Arabic. He will not stop talking even to take a breath. The RUclips account has over 700 videos; I cannot watch even one of them - it's that bad. Rolf Kalb is 10 times more palatable than that Arab commentator but I'm making a point.
+PornobrillenAli Only if you are not able to see any legal object ball directly. And there is no rule on the number of miss calls that can be called, though it rarely goes abpve 10 at the professional level
you mean the time noone does anything? or are you suggesting that delay was due to the perfect snooker just before that? that was hardly a difficult shot. there was no perfect snooker here. it was a mess.
if A perfect snooker is meant rather than perfect snooker play that makes a bit more sense but even then it's hardly perfect. there is plenty of room for single cushion escape and an entire net of reds to catch it.
at 0:30 the commentator says "a snooker that can cost a friendship" :D
To those who wonder why a miss was called. It is because there are easier ways to escape the snooker, he could for example aim for any of the reds after the top cushion. He didn't do that because that is a dangerous play, so he owned up to the "foul and a miss" penalties trying to get the fancier and safer escapes.

+Cream147player Yep, just the two of you. Not the players, not the referee.
I'm pretty sure a miss is called if there is no advantage to the returning player....in other words, if the player attempting to get out of the snooker puts himself in a better position by fouling.....then a miss is called.

I can remember that, like it was yesterday!
Bad, it ended in another Foul.
Thanks for uploading! :)
thanks for the upload! really rare footage, stoked to see it!
thank you for uploading this fantastic video
Neil Roberson is just awesome guy ☺
@talhajutt1 In Ronnie's match, Holt needed snookers, so the miss rule does not come into play. while robertson was thinking of how to escape this snooker, ronnie was finishing 147s
Great vid. Neil was so amused :) I would like to see videos of really really hard snookers, almost impossible ones. How many times would a player try until he'd surrender the frame. I mean, if a snooker is impossible/ almost impossible you are allowed to give up, aren't you?

Can't believe I let myself watch all 5 minutes of that
Was there a re-rack at the end? I think the commentator says just that ("Der Frame beginnt also komplett neu..."). If so, why? There was no stalemate...
Its such a sharp language isn't it !
Yes, principally I concur with ur opinion. it's recorded as a 155 break. In fact Jamie Burnett made a 148 and his best break is considered 148, even though he made a classic 147 maximum too.
@imichaeloo9 bond is prompted with 2 options ; let robertson play the exact same shot ( after foul ) again, or continue when he likes the position where the balls ended up after neil's mistake. Потясающий выход из снукера несмотря на фол
I like the sound "uoouhhh" in slow motion!

Interessant variant av snooker.

@Katzeleine ohk my bad, idk what in the video to me sounded french, can't remember.
To KingFofo666 :

the first escape Robertson was trying was a double rattle in two pockets jaws?

Why does the cue ball keep coming back to its original position? I thought playing again meant playing from the position it comes to rest..
@david1991rules4life where is there a french?^^ Thats german
genious
This is about an inch away from being the greatest escape ever.
**Jimmy white entered the chat **
can anyone lease tell me that why the referee was putting the cue ball again and again on the same position
but
/watch?v=s1lyZl69VLc
in this video he was not doing so
what is the rule???
im so confused as to why he didnt just kick to the end rail softly toward the three red balls on the rail?

even with aa genuine attempt you need to get the cue ball as close as possible to the object ball in any case.
@kurbyrox its called FAIR TRY
@boomyakasha The game is called snooker for a reason.
good video quality
Were is ronnie to solve this snooker

where was the perfect snoooker part?
Foul at 2:09 ? He moves the blue with his hand

there would be no reason to ban these shots...how can you put this in a rule? Angulation of the cue?
Thank god he did not give again after that last foul
There should be a rule preventing you from being able to put a player in a snooker after you get a jammy shot.
roses are red , violets are blue , the title is in english, the video should be too
4:38
Wow what a snooker by agent 007
Snooker after a foul = free ball
If there is no snooker, there will be no free ball
@iCarroller 5. He didn't hit the blue though.
Because he is the commentator.....
if the commentator shuts up, u'll ask 'Why the commentator kept quiet??' or 'Why is there any sound??'
Warum hat er viele Schuss genimmt??
you can mute the video.....?
I bet Efren Reyes would be able to do some of his magic here XD
FLUKE + PERFECT SNOOKER + TRICKSHOT + MASSÉ + FOUL = Neil Robertson
The background sound is so much like Mr Bean's audience

What kind of shot is that even called? Parabola trick shot?
What an ass to play that snooker after such a lucky fluke.
He could play green ball, but he did not.
+Sam Van den Eynde Made me fucking mad
+Sam Van den Eynde totally agree but then nigel bond has always been a boring shit player with zer personality
+Sam Van den Eynde Taking advantage of your flukes is part of the game.
+Sam Van den Eynde There isn't a single pro snooker player that would have done differently!
@liangyuanbeats but Ronnie is Ronnie :D
@liangyuanbeats Is this video about Ronnie? No. Is your comment senseless? Yes
@shannnnii same thing
Timberswiss, do you really think it's worth arguing with him since he won't listen?
you mean the time noone does anything?
or are you suggesting that delay was due to the perfect snooker just before that? that was hardly a difficult shot.
there was no perfect snooker here. it was a mess.
Why didn’t Neil just come off top cushion
if A perfect snooker is meant rather than perfect snooker play that makes a bit more sense but even then it's hardly perfect. there is plenty of room for single cushion escape and an entire net of reds to catch it.
The player must make an fair attempt, even though the foul is inevitable. The opponent then gets a free ball, I think.
YEH AND LEAVE YOUR OPPONENT ON TO CLEAR UP. MAKES GREAT SENSE.
is it possible to snooker someone when it is not physically possible to touch the next ball?
obviously you dont. please explain what you think they mean by a 'perfect snooker'?
hitting some reds randomly is not a good way to escape a snooker... that's why this is an "iron-snooker".
Feels :')
why did he get like 4 chances
DAS EIN FLOOKE!
ITS CALLED THE MISS RULE.
vs james BOND??
Risky shot kicking to the end rail.
@FuriosgeorgeWar Well spotted, it's not called luck is it.
Even foul , but that ohsem
my name is Bond, just Bond...
Also die erklärung zum MISS war mal Fail Rolf xD
Bond James Bond
Das GOOD! End of story.
Haha It was even better for Robertson the white ball went in
This commentator just doesn't stop talking does he...
I know how he feels
bond?! james bond???
@liangyuanbeats on the other hand it took him 5.30 min to get badly out of a situation he played himself in /watch?v=tX8OJQqicFw
