I grew up Jehovahs Witness and considering Orthodox Christianity. Please pray for me that my path may be made clear
Seek out a Bible church not tied into dead ritual. Mandatory fasting. More focus on dead saints than Living Jesus. Calvary Chapel, Baptist, Foursquare, you need to be where Bible is preached with repentance, no rote praying.
I’m in the same boat as you. I grew up a JW and felt very secluded and isolated in the grand scheme of Christianity. I was non denomination for almost 1-2 years relying only on biblical scripture and teaching. I’ve now found my way to Orthodoxy, captivated by its historical significance, the theology and traditions. I’m close but have much to learn.
@@Maybepeso you can get books on the Churches history from Ken Johnson Rabbi Zev Porat and Josh Peck . Orthoxy may have traditions but be careful Tradition keeps many out of heaven. Jesus repent and be baptized …infants cannot yet are baptized stay with scripture

Read the Bible for yourself, and find therein the Truth. Too many people look outside themselves for the truth that lies within. If we're created in God's image, trust your own powers of deduction and critical thinking, and you'll see how manipulative others can be, including church leaders, Popes, bishops, cardinals, Fathers, Priests, and other Vicars of Christ; for even the son of perdition, of destruction of whom Paul speaks in his letters, will appear as a man of God.

My man, I'm an orthodox inquirer from Colorado. Raised Baptist methodist and catholic. Baptism is too loose but the love I want methodist is way too loose and without the love I feel and catholic is tooo strict without love. But orthodox church I've been welcomed so warmly. I was allowed to indulge in the preliminary feast and I'm a pork lover I love meat but I tried kollyva and it was so good like I meam I loved it. Orthodoxy seems wild compared to a Baptist but the worship if you believe is so pure. In my own personal feelings im an alcoholic but after church I dont want to drink and they don't ever touch on drunkenness the scripture. And yessssss my church isn't the most grand but st tikhons is beautiful and the father he gives me a reason to come back I love him

I'am Romanian and also Orthodox Christian. I've heared people talking on Internet about how it's for the better if we all call ourselves Orthodox Christian and not Romanian Orthodox, Serbian Orthodox, Russian Orthodox etc. This makes people from the West who wants to convert, to feel somewhat excluded which is not true.

I’m Ethiopian Orthodox living in the United States. Our church prays for all human beings in the world, for the ocean , river, wind , rain so that they stay in their limit and balance. Our church is open 7 days a week. In weekends our worship starts at 8pm- 11 am non stop

I was raised Pentecostal. Our services lasted from 9am-3pm. I became non- denominational in my 20s until present day in isolation being taught by the Holy Spirit.
in the past few days I am having a pull to the orthodoxy, having never been to one of the churches. I plan to attend a Christmas Eve service at a Greek Orthodox Church with my son in the next couple weeks. I’m excited.
I was non-denominational before I became orthodox and my first visit was to a Greek Orthodox Church. I remember my mind having a hard time understanding what was going on as it was very foreign and the language went back and forth between Greek and English. But I walked away with a an impression placed upon my heart and I followed that and was baptized less than a year later at that same church. It’s the most beautiful faith, complete and whole. There’s meaning behind everything that’s done and it is life changing if you are willing to change. May the Holy Spirit guide you and protect you! ❤️☦️

@@sahamal_savu it was very unnecessary. A whole lot of theatrics with the singing, everyone wanting to give a testimonial. The actual sermon was never to teach, it was charismatic preaching. Turned me off to church. Thankfully the Holy Spirit taught me true worship

I just attended an Orthodox church in Naples Idaho for the first time. I was so blessed at how welcoming they were that I plan on going back and hoping to learn more and walk with God closer. These people made my friend and I feel so much acceptance it was pure and beautiful
Lately I have been researching Orthodox Christianity. It's very interesting and I find myself being drawn to it. In all my years of being a Christian and I feel like I am seeing a side of Christianity I never knew.
I am a Christian but I never went to Church. When I did go to Church it never seemed spiritual. The praise and worship music seemed like secular music with Christian lyrics.
I feel like I may have found what I have been searching for all of these years.
I hear you. I was born Greek Orthodox but have taken the LOOONG way around, delved into so much study. Roman Catholicism, New Age, Evangelical, even being exposed to Judaic Hassidic’s.
The pandemic put us home, now I love my home, need SO much less sensory input from the world, and got to spend 2 solid years of personal religious study.
I am now completely recommitted to Eastern Orthodoxy. It is mystical, it is greatly unchanged. It is the next step of our teachings. Jesus gave us all the answers. A beautiful spiritual place, is Orthodoxy.

Wow.. you find the idolatry attractive? You desire pagan rituals, you want to pray to Mary and dead people? Why. It is anti-Christian. Did you read the Bible, sir? Read the Bible and it will show you catholicism and eastern orthodoxy are backslidden pagan cults., full of ravenous wolves.
I went through the same experience and my life has since been transformed through Orthodoxy. I worried most of my life I'd never be able to experience faith, I studied philosophy and theology and never felt it in my heart until I found the Church.

We are romanians orthodox, living in France, going to a Russian orthodox church, the priest is an American and the liturgy is in French, some prayers are in Russian and we say Our Father in Romanian when the moment cames. That's ecumenic!

AND, NOW, i have watched from beginning to end. I learned family things i didn't know. You were all received into the Church before we were. We had seen our first Orthodox churches in Moscow in 1985. Then again on later trips there, (and to other cities, including local churches), but we were not received into the Church until the early 2000's after several years of attending services..
i quietly sat tonight and learned things from an Orthodox priest. Insights into the Transfiguration. About the western mindset of Rome and how that mind differs from Orthodox. Beautifully explained. And on and on..
It was a joy to know the little boy/toddler Jesse. But it is an even deeper joy to meet the Orthodox priest, Father Jesse. What a joy to see this on Thanksgiving weekend.

Don’t abandon the true faith for the new exciting thing. It was the Eastern branches spreading Christianity across the world, and now they seek to claim credit for what the Church did.

How beautiful! I was received into the Church at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Phoenix in 1997. I’ve visited St. Ignatius parish several times and it’s a wonderful parish. ❤️☦️❤️

Why is it a hard ordeal. The Catholics and Orthodoxy are synonymous with each other. They are a split off the same church started by the disciples. This is proven in historical documents. Catholics are also people of God.

Thats wonderful what you are saying. As a missionary In India and Africa for decades I have seen similar testimony from simple African Christians that know nothing at all about either Orthodox or Catholicism. They dont have nice churches buildings , they are too poor, but the Lord indwells the Church which is his body .

Yes, being Orthodox is very difficult. This is a major distinction between Orthodoxy and all other Christian faiths. Speaking as an Orthodox convert from Protestantism.
@@MommaBirdd So true. I think the difficulty is that with Protestantism mainly, different preachers preach different things so it gets confusing what is faith, what is wrong and what is right. And most of these preachers have no idea of the writings of the early Christian writers who were close to the Apostles, they haven't even heard of them.

Unfortunately copts are not Orthodox. They haven't been in communion with the church since the 5th century. Eastern Orthodox is the Truth, not Oriental "Orthodox"

Thank you so much for this beautiful story and explanation father. I am born Orthodox, and went to church as a child but like many tinagers left church and was not into it too much. One day 1.5 year ago, I went for a walk during my break at work and walked by the church that I recognized Orthodox cross but that church was united church before. I came closer, took a picture of the ph. # on the sign, where it says St. Vincent Antiochian Orthodox Church. I called the ph. # from the sign, left a message, and the priest called me back and I went to a liturgy on next Sunday and I had tears coming down all the time, I could not stop crying. The church choir beautiful voice stole my heart with their beautiful singing. I felt I came home. I can't wait for every Sunday to go to liturgy.
I pray to God to help me to bring my whole family to this beautiful Antiochian Orthodox church. This is in Canada. I love this church. I had same welcoming as you did father, when I walked in. I was hugged by many people who welcomed me. I am blessed with this group of beautiful people at this church. This is like one big family, where everyone loves everyone.

I was raised in, and continue to attend and lead in a Church of Christ. The last 6 months or so of studying orthodoxy have been eye-opening. While there are some concepts I still can’t quite understand, and a few practices that still appear to go against scripture to my Protestant upbringing, there’s a fullness of understanding and a history that’s undeniable, and I pray daily that I find the right direction to go.
I highly encourage you to read the letters of St. Ignatius of Antioch, he was a direct disciple under St. John. In his letters he emphasizes the priesthood, submitting to your bishop, the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. This is in the first century. Most Protestants I know claim that these concepts come from paganism and that the church was founded by Constantine in the fourth century but history tells us otherwise. This is an absolute and definitive death blow to Protestantism. Don’t take my word for it, please look into this yourself and may God bless you on your journey!

If one’s not available to you, I recommend my priest, Fr. Andrew Jarmus’ YT channel. He even has an online worldwide community for those seekers who live far from an Orthodox Church.

@@kaybrown4010 fortunately I live in possibly the oldest Orthodox area in the US. My local parish is possibly the oldest standing church in my state, so orthodoxy isn’t hard to find. I’ve got a lot to consider and really need to flesh out both sides of the hot button topics between the system I was raised in and Orthodoxy. I feel, though, that my brief foray into this study has opened to me the Biblical education I wasn’t offered as a youth, and that’s saying a lot considering I was born to a devout and constantly studying family and spent most of my education in a private Christian school.
I’ve got a lot to consider though, between the impact to my small congregation (whom I hold dear) and my family, I’m taking this study seriously and praying constantly about it.

While I call myself denominational, I have always had doubts about the state of the Protestant church. And so, I have begun a journey praying and exploring the early church both in tradition and scripture. Thank you Fr. Jesse for conveying the essence of the Orthodoxy.

We of the Eastern Orthodox need to look east to the Oriental first, then west.
In 2006 we became members of the Antiochian St. George, which uses Arabic in services.
Arabic is a beautiful language when chanted.
We were Home in Christ.
17 years later, we are looking and found an OCA Church.
They welcome non-cultural people; the antiochian St. George was very inclusive of Arabs but not nonArabs.
Orthodoxy is very inclusive.

I am apart of a assembly of God church but I still appreciate and love historic liturgy I've been to a Roman Catholic mass and a Greek Orthodox divine liturgy and there both have beautiful worship 🙏

You would be one of many people from non-denominational Christianity to convert to Orthodox Christianity. I would recommend visiting a Eastern Orthodox church near you and having a discussion with the priest if you interested, there is no harm in learning more.

Im very glad to be Orthodox.
I like how you said if you can penetrate all that, there's a great gem inside waiting for everyone. I think of Orthodoxy as a secret club open to everyone. I "fell through" to this other world, an alternate reality, that closer to the true reality. We all need to work to make it not so secret. And thanks to all Orthodox Christians who share their faith.

One of the questions I have a lot of them have been answered by various videos I’ve seen, but one of the questions I have not gotten, answered yet is why is there a screen between the people and the holy of holies when Christ made sure the veil was torn between the people in the holy of holies. When he was crucified, I thought that was one of the main purposes of him coming to the Earth and the pay the penalty for sins with it. Now we can have one on one fellowship with God the father.
I am not officially assigned to answer to your question, but I will give a try.
The Christian temple symbolizes the Cosmos - visible and invisible. The Holy of the Holies symbolizes Heaven, and the main temple symbolizes the Creation.
Ideally, in Paradise, the Source of life and the Creation stood in unity. After the Fall, the door to Heaven was closed, and after the Resurrection of Jesus it is now open but narrow.
The screen between those two parts of the temple, reflects that vision of the Cosmos. The believers don't dwell in Heaven yet. They partly participate in heavenly life through the Holy Communion - the reception of the Body and Blood of Christ which is prepared in the Holy of Holies on the altar (which symbolizes the Throne of the Lamb) - but their dwelling sphere is Earth, a mixed condition, where the sacred battles with the profane. The fact that the veil was torn, does not mean that there is no difference between Earth and God's dominion any more, or that the way of entering Heaven is wide open for anyone to come and go at any moment. (One could claim that there are living saints who dwell in Heaven already, but their beatification happens officially, only after they depart. No one is beatified while alive). That's the reason why the only person who is permitted to enter the Holy of Holies is the priest who symbolizes the Christ, and the youngster who helps him do his duty and cleans the space.
That said, in the first centuries of Christian temple architecture, the screen was non existent or quite low, with small icons lifted on it. Everyone could see and hear the priest performing the sacrament in the Holy of Holies. The situation changed though, after the period of Iconoclasm.
During Iconoclasm, the anti-icon fanatics were vandalizing the Churches and destroying the religious art. After quite a few synods and a long turmoil, the Church finally condemned them in the 7th Ecumenical Synod, while also condemning the worshiping of the icons as objects. What happened after, was that the icon-philes wished to place bigger icons on the screen - in order in a sense, to celebrate their victory - and the bigger icons brought a larger screen that could stand their weight. Through time, a new religious art was brought to the fore: the art of screening, with skillful screens made of wood...

Technically, there is no “screen”…the iconostasis was once just a couple icons on pedestals or stands. More icons added, more of a “screen” was formed.
I believe, not know, it's because they are keeping old ancient temple traditions. The apostles use to go to temple synagogues to preach. Maybe this tradition followed over into to ancient eastern early churches.
I converted to Roman Catholic to Orthodox, i always thought Roman Catholic was the oldest church in the world but i do never like the Roman costumers and Roman traditions so when i found the Orthodox Church i found the way to live as the first apostles
Orthodox n Roman Catholic are under Catholic Church. Both are apostolic that have connections with apostles. Orthodox was the Eastern Church of the Catholic Church before it separated from the Roman Catholic Church.
Show me one document from tradition or Ecumenical council where the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church identified itself as the Orthodox Church.
Jesus Christ founded the Catholic Church, not the schismatic and heretical sect known as the "Orthodox" Church.
The Roman church is only one church of the entire Catholic Church though. We have Byzantine rite churches that are in communion with Rome along with those from the Syriac, Armenian, and Alexandrian rites. Eastern Orthodoxy doesn't really consist of any other rite or liturgy besides Byzantine. I am a Catholic who was baptized under the Roman rite but attend a Russian Greek Catholic Church (Byzantine rite) because we are all in full communion with each other. You can't do that in Orthodoxy.

They do have a Western Orthodox rite under ROCOR, but yes, they are predominately soley Byzantine Rite, hardly Universal, which eliminates one of the four marks of the Church; Catholicity

The Eastern Catholic churches have their own code of canons, their own respective rites, liturgical traditions, some with their own catechisms, separate from the Latin Church. Do you honestly think the Chaldean Catholics are calling out the Armenians and Maronites for their "heresies"? No, they all enjoy their own autonomy whilst being united under the same common matters of faith and morals which bind them all together as one Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Eastern Orthodoxy is nationally divided and is barely universal, refusing anyone outside of Byzantium, not even recognizing the churches from Oriental Orthodoxy or those from the historical Church of the East. Only the Catholic Church can lay claim of universality because they recognize the rites from ALL of them while sharing the same apostolic succession and the same sacraments which trace back to the Church fathers. Only the Catholic Church has been actively reuniting the one true Church in holy communion over the last several centuries.

Happy to notice that Americans started learning about Orthodoxy.
The modern approach to Christianity is to reach Spirit/πνεῦμα by way of the flesh. But it is only by the transcendence of the flesh that we reach Spirit/πνεῦμα.
I also grew up Church of Christ and was an angry teenager. I've been considering Orthodoxy for a while. Though I have no idea how I would even begin to approach that.
Approach it with patience, humility and prayer. Take your time and I would recommend getting into contact with the nearest Orthodox priest and express your interest in the faith. Be in prayer and don't be afraid to ask questions and in sure God will guide you.

@@Lambdamale.not true. There is 1 Eastern Orthodox Communion of about 15 Orthodox patriarchates, archbishoprics, and metropolises. While occasionally there are breaks in communion, like between Constantinople and Moscow that happened in 2018, this does not mean that either patriarchate is suddenly a “new” Church independent of Orthodoxy. Additionally, claiming to be Orthodox does not make you Eastern Orthodox, and many groups claiming the name “Orthodox Church” have vastly different views from the tradition of Eastern Orthodoxy, like the Coptic Orthodox Church for instance

When I talk to people in America, they have no idea what is orthodoxy… Are usually explain it as original Christianity before people changed it in the last few hundred years. That seems to offend some people, especially all these new wave protestants.
Peter is succeeded by Popes, the orthodox have departed from Peter.
@@koppite9600 wrong. The Orthodox follow all disciples, as none are superior. The fact that James was a bishop in Jerusalem before Peter was (allegedly) made bishop of Rome. Why don’t Catholics follow James?
Hey Gopnik - Orthodoxy in America is not well known - and Protestants think it is just ‘me and Jesus’. Your New Wave Christian statement was amusing. I began my journey into Holy Orthodoxy from the Contemporary church setting… after listening to chants in Old Church Slavonic about 9 years ago… I had no understanding then… but my heart understood…. Now Orthodox- I still understand very little Old Church Slavonic when our Divine Liturgy switches from English… if you had asked me 10 years ago - I wouldn’t have had a clue what Orthodoxy was…. Let alone - the Church was present in the US. Trust you are well.

My grandma was in The Church of Christ. It was conservative and every man wore a suit and tie. It was very biblical. I really liked that church. It was a small congregation but very active in helping the community.

Bowing down and kissing someone’s feet and hands, as you said about Mary, if she were to walk in the room, is worship. Rename it veneration all you want, it’s still worship, and we are not to worship anyone, but the Lord.
There's a difference between worship and honor.
We honor those whom God chose to inspire and encourage us on our journey back to His house/kingdom.
We do Not worship the Saints, They're our brothers and sisters in Christ.
We honor them because they chose to glorify God with their lives!

Since orthodoxy broke ofc from the Catholic Church can you really say “original”
it's the other way around, rome was part of pentarchy (five patriarchates in ancient christendom), but then chose to leave the other four in 1054 and changed the church teaching with additions like filioque, papal supremacy, etc and change its name to catholic church. The rest church still hold fast to the original teachings hence the name orthodox (straight teaching).
The Catholic Church broke away from the ancient concilliar of bishops...
If Anything The RCC broke away from Orthodoxy. Look up the history
