What i like the most about this guy, is that you can see that he loves to play that guitar.. just by the way he is playing, controlling that guitar, as well as he lives into the song and playing! A great guitarrist!
It's so Gothic and medieval, and yet it's so surreal and manic sounding. It's a really great take on the fringe of what acoustic atmosphere can be.
I'm can confidently say I have listened to this at least 20 times today.
I don't go looking for Ewan's music. I see a new song, I just file it away: that way, I have all these awesome songs to explore. Just saw this one, listened. Wonderful. I always like his music. I can't think of anyone else I ever liked all their music.
It's always nice having more Ewan Dobson to listen to.

You ever meet somebody so good at something that it pisses you off?
It's like...I'm a good enough guitar player that I can comprehend everything he's doing. It all makes sense to me,. Yet I know it would take me a very long time to be able to play like that. It's humbling as much as it's irritating.
In the end I'm just glad music like this exists as something to strive for.

+p Cas So I've spent the last few weeks learning Time, My Nightmare, Time 2, and Springing Back to Life (an awesome song if you haven't stumbled on it yet).
My Nightmare took like 3 days, it was surprisingly easy. I did spend the last 6 months working on percussive techniques, which helped, but still, in general this is probably a good one to start with from him.
That being said, I thought I'd knock out at least half of Time clean within a week. Hellll nah, lol. I am currently back at the basics redeveloping my right hand so its more relaxed when I palm mute and pick, as well as become more economical with my left hand.
I think I have a very positive attitude, nevertheless, some of this stuff is straight up challaenging due to large stretches and high speed. I'm guessing this one isn't toooo hard, though just listening to it.
Either way, of course you're right, it's all in the mind set, but still, if you don't have a certain set of skills developed (fingerpicking, barre chords with moving melodies, hitting the bass string as a snare, etc.), it could indeed take a very long time to learn to play this song, especially up to speed and clean.
Will try to get some videos up in like a month or two (saying I "learned My Nightmare in 3 days" does not mean I play every note perfectly, but I can get through it without much difficulty and just need to work on tone and control, especially with harmonics and palm mutes).
Its one thing to technically rich to his level which i can do by years of hard work but can i or you conpose this kind of amazing innovative music?FUCK NO!
As awesome as Ewan is I would bet that as an educated musician, he also worked his butt off. That whole "natural talent" thing is BS. Some people may have a easier time grasping certain concepts and theory but they still work real hard to get to this level. Using the "natural talent" thing just kind of belittles all of their hard work.
I hope at some stage they will appreciate the level of your play and musicality! You're truly a great composer!

3:38 How he comes up with such delicious chords in these obscure tunings, going from one extreme to another, just blows my mind. Keep it up man, your music is amazing. A breath of fresh air in a World filled with shitty music.
Great stuff. I had the pleasure of sharing a stage with him in Richmond Hill several times about 6 or seven years ago at an open mike in a little pub. He always blew me away!

He is classically trained and would/has done a great job of that! but I think he has completely focused on his steel string style nowadays.
This guy always proves why he is my all time favourite guitarist.... actually i m obsessed with 8bit music from my childhood...And Ewans compositions are heavily inspired by 8 bit music.

Not me. I watched this and got motivated and wrote the best guitar song I've ever written at that time. Nowjere remotely close to him, but it inspired me.

@AscendingDescending Ewan seems dedicated to keep at his video game/classical/staccato melody style. It's very unique and refreshing to me, it's always fun when a new Dobson tune shows up, you never really know what to except, you will however know it's gonna Ewan written all over it.

I've been going through your songs for the past hour, I absolutely love them. I only wish I was this good, I tried finger-picking at one point but ended up giving up on it, I was simply better with a pick. But the sound of finger-picking guitar is glorious, and you've inspired me to try and pick it back up. I'm going to try and learn, and to be able to play even close to this good would be great. @DCMusicSchool Dude, I was just offering my honest initial response. Reflections on art shouldn't be constrained by concerns about its production. I liked the video, have been watching more, and want to hear him recording more. I never claimed to quantize expressiveness--Art is about reactions, not rulers.

Everyone keep in mind. Not only does he obviously masterfully play this stuff....he WROTE all this shit. Not many like him - he the best I've heard.
And as he walk over the hill into the sunlight there he saw, a magnificent large brown goat, and knew this would be greatnesss. And the legend was born.
It makes me sad to think that less than 1 million people have listened to this. So many songs that millions of people have listen to lack any real talent and emotion yet songs like this that light the imagination afire remains unheard,
I never heard a so brilliant and clien playing ever and nevertheless it comes over so much emotion.
