I really like the Mondata. Almost a Thunderbird vibe to the body shape, the vintage burst finish just works so well with the 2 piece bridge and the white binding just ties it all together. And I really liked all the tones available. I'd probably only use a couple of them but the versatility is pretty impressive.
I bought a Combinata a few weeks ago, the setup is so good - it plays so easily. I think these are incredibly underrated guitars, glad to see someone giving them their due.
Nice review, Darrell! Rivolta guitars are just excellent. I have the Mondata Baritone VII, love it. Its electronics are configured the same as the Mondo Mondata, which it looks like you have there. The P90 is stacked for hum cancelling. The switch closest to the volume knob is a phase switch. Functional in the center position, it switches the phase relationship of the 2 pickups. In phase or out. The switch nearest the tone knob is a coil tap switch for the Humbucker. The Mondata bodies are chambered, which accounts for the light weight.
This video could have been much longer, it was that enjoyable. New styles and flowing body lines,...sweet! Your music compliments the tones offered by the pickups.
I own and play my Rivolta Combinata on a regular basis and it is one of the best sounding and playing guitars own. Mine has P90's with a smooth as silk Duesenberg tremolo. Everything about this guitar is quality. This guitar played superbly right out of the box and I have done nothing to it. The unique look turns heads every time and the tones are superb. I highly recommend the Combinata if you are looking for something out of the ordinary.
I've always been intrigued by the Rivoltas. Got to play a used one a while ago at GC, and loved it. Great playing instrument. I had a hard time with those huge fret blocks though. BUT, these have dots? Went to the website and discovered that the Mondo series uses dot inlays - YEA. But what I really want is the Combinata VII (2 - P90's, and wraptail) with dot inlays. Sadly, not in the lineup (yet????).
Fantastic guitars! I have both a Combinata Mondo and Combinata XVII. They each have their own flavors, but sound fantastic. There are very few guitars I can pick up and connect with after playing these. Phenomenal instruments that keep me wanting to play.
Love these guitars. I've been waiting on a Combinata XVII, which is the version with 2 P90's and the Duesenberg trem. Placed the order in February. Supposed to be in by the end of the month. Can't wait!!!
I have one of these in burgundy mist. It rules. It’s my second favorite guitar i own, and is miles better than the Gibson les Paul special it replaced.
@@durstgt Love Burgundy Mist. I have a Knaggs Kenai in that color. Its a beauty. The Rivolta I'm waiting on is in Acero Glow, which is the natural blond finish. Can't wait to get my hands on it!!
FYI: Eastwood has some sales that give substantial discounts. Easy to get 20% off. They also have a point system that counts "Guitpoints" after purchases and can be applied to future purchases. Easy to get 30% + discounts. I have four Eastwood-purchased guitars, including a couple Backlund models. A great company to buy a guitar from.
Both of these guitars sounded great! While I like the switching capabilities of the Mondata, I prefer the look of the Combinata. But both guitars are very cool.
Mondata has a natural finish that looks great, both Mondata (perimeter)and Combinata (teardrop) have a nice burst finish. I love the Goldtop and natural back that both have too. I'd have to go with the Mondata cause you can't beat a neck P-90!
Man, love the Mondata, that rsised center looks awesome 👌! The p90 and humbucker is a cool combo, sounds great! So many different tones, very cool!!! Love the look!! Very unique!!
Really really digging the Mondata. Looks absolutely gorgeous in gold, turquoise, and ice blue… three colors I normally hate on guitars, but with the nickel hardware and black pick guards they’re fantastic colors.
A few points that might be important to some (or most) guitar players. Both of these guitars are chambered. They have 24 fret 25” fingerboards with a somewhat flat ish radius (think some Les Paul years) They are made in Korea, but gone over and tweaked in the Nashville Nova factory (which is a big part of the superb build quality ) Question…is the P-90 stacked? (It sounded fairly quiet, but hard to tell) My Combinata XVii has traditional P90’s. Stacked is usually a different sound, but quiet.
Lovely looking and sounding guitars. Would love to see a review of the Rivolata Regatta - semi hollow, with a comparison to other similar priced semi-hollows.
i really love Brian may guitars. so versatile, the tones are endless. you can even, if you want to, change the pickups and get a totally different sounding beast. but why would you want to?
I've been looking at both of these on their site for a while now. Thanks for the review! I definitely want both, but will probably get the Mondata first.
Talking about not ordinary guitars, check out «Italia». Trev Wilkinson’s brand. Unique. Very 50s and 60s inspired design. Tried the Italia Mondial 10 years ago in Austin. Regret not buying it every single day. It has a Piazo bridge, with controls and a jack outlet. It also has two humbuckers with their own set of controls and their own jack outlet. Great playability. But rather expensive.
I like them both, but the pickup config on the Mondata really sounds good-at least when you play it. I want one, but I think that I need gasoline in my car so I wont be buying any guitars for a spell. Infact, I think one may have to go. LOL!
Careful, brother! I had a musical mentor sell one of his guitars years ago and couldn’t replace or find anything like it. Walk, ride a bike, or sell something else if you need to, but don’t part with your instrument. Just my two cents. God bless
Darrell, these are really cool. Any chance you'd review a Tagima Stella DW from Brazil? They look amazing, and my local shop in KCMO said Tagima is the new sleeper competition for Fender, but I'd love to get your perspective!
You get all the stuff I've never seen or heard of which is great. Both these guitars sound and look nice and I'd likely go either the Mondato of the two. Price seems reasonable and comparable to competitors.
Both guitars are very nice. One of my favorite guitars was made in S Korea. They definitely do a good job. I like the Mondata the best. Super cool look and tone! Thanks Darrell!
I would love to see a review of the Rivolta Doucata. It's a bit like a tele but it's not. I appreciate you reviewing these guitars because of the way they are marketed it's impossible to try them out before ordering one.
They look really well made. are they hollow inside? to keep the weight down and add to the fat tone,, they do look like they would be chosen by the Jazz guitarists, also they should have good sustain .. interesting design and look ... it's hard to make a nice guitar that is also instantly recognizable, but they seem to have done it, They somehow seem to give me a "Retro" Vibe ... I don't know why ...
Has anyone tried doing some rewiring to actually bypass those two tone switches on the Mondo Mondata? I feel like they might be complicating the circuit and aren't really necessary. Also thinking about swapping out the humbucker with something a bit hotter.
Explanation on the switches: - First switch (closer to tone knob) is a coil tap. Taps the humbucker to a single coil. - Second switch (closer to volume time knob) is a polarity switch.
Both sound MEAN as hell…I’ve been looking at a ton of guitars the last 2 months…have about $1500 to spend….I play in a Tom Petty tribute band around DC/Baltimore area, you think one of these would be a good choice Darrell? I can definitely see something like this in Mike Campbell’s hands. Thanks dude
I don’t think I have a favourite one. I’ve been looking at this line for a while. Seems like an extremely good value with a unique modern take but yet retaining a classic 60s vibe.
I like the Mondata, especially the baritone. I heard the baritone on a RUclips channel and it really sounds unique and really good. This is a guitar that I want to have at home... Perhaps you can make a comparison of different baritone guitars. That would be great.
I have admired these guitars from afar for a few years now...but you've just pushed them.right into focus. Cos I didn't know they were mahogany..and set necks...AND well contoured at the heel...3 things that are always high on my checklists. I have been wanting a Fano Jm6 HARD for a few years... Loving that classic Jazzmaster shape with all the curves and "bubble" body shapes Fender is famous for. ..Aswell as it having the hardware of a Rocker (stoptail/TOM..HH).. But it's still just a bolt-on alder affair.. a set mahogany neck/body is a BIIIG plus in a "Rockers". Yeah....high on my list, a Rivolta. Which one, though..? Hmmmm...I can't really say just yet...but I do love that Jazzmaster shape, and the Modana (I think...the sunburst one) has that "stylised", "impressionist" JM shape to it. So one of them....but with a metallic paint finish.
Nice. Any comments on how these stack up to the new Yamaha Revstars (Standard). Was seriously considering those but these seem viable as a somewhat similar alternative.
Daryl you didn't give him some a starting point where they start at man I like the silver one and a lot of the way the silver one played better than the other one but I still would not know what the starting point of the price is
Boy do I wish you'd demoed these with a lower gain tone. I literally can't tell them apart with the gain and amp imparting so much of its own thing. Please play them clean too!
When you do your videos could you please let us know what amplifier you’re playing those guitars through. That would be helpful. Really like your channel. Also love South Korean guitars.
I have a fender 63 1/2 deluxe reverb amp, pre-CBS, that my grandfather gave me. I also play through music man amplifiers from the 80s. You have such a good clean sound. Like to see if I could match it. My sound needs to be improved.
feel like you need to hear surf music played on those to know the score, thats what they are obviously designed to emulate, lots of Mosrite style looks
Dammit Darrell!!! I've just made a promise (to myself) that I will NOT be making/buying any guitars this year!!!.......(but that Mondata is just a little special.....mmmmmm)....hey-ho....I'd only be letting myself down....I can live with that!!! Thanks Dood!!
A couple of unique beauties this week! Which model was your favourite?
Enjoy :)
That Mondata is sick! My local guitar shop carries these beauties and they are always calling my name. 🤣
The Mondata
Mondata
I ordered a Mondata and it arrived yesterday so there's your answer.
Mondata p90 and humbucker.
I really like the Mondata. Almost a Thunderbird vibe to the body shape, the vintage burst finish just works so well with the 2 piece bridge and the white binding just ties it all together. And I really liked all the tones available. I'd probably only use a couple of them but the versatility is pretty impressive.
I was thinking the same thing about the Mondata.
And that combined with a les paul BFGesque lay out....
I got the black Mondata with gold pick guards with the 3 mini-humbuckers. It's a beautiful guitar.
I bought a Combinata a few weeks ago, the setup is so good - it plays so easily. I think these are incredibly underrated guitars, glad to see someone giving them their due.
I really like the Mondata. That color combo is totally awesome Thanks for the excellent content Darrell.

Haha that explains why I couldn't tell a difference at all when he was changing the dip switch on the p-90. 😂 He should've done his homework on that!
The style of these Rivolta guitars has really grown on me. I like that they’ve made some with dot inlays.
The Combinata is their most adorable and most beautiful model. I love that blueish green color that they have on the Combinata on Novo's website.
Right off the bat I like that it inspired different licks and riffs
This video could have been much longer, it was that enjoyable. New styles and flowing body lines,...sweet! Your music compliments the tones offered by the pickups.
I’ve always wanted a guitar with humbucker in the bridge and P90 in the bridge!

Hello Darrell, Love the videos man, keep up the good work. Ps, my aunt just died, and watching your videos bring me happiness, so thank you!
Sorry for your loss
My condolences man. That sucks...
@@Gaslight.Guitar thanks guys
Sorry for your loss, stay strong!
sorry for your loss dude; hope you feel better soon
I have a Combinata XVII with the tremolo in Autunno Burst. Ordered from Eastwood. A gorgeous instrument.
I also have the exact guitar. Seems like if a Rick and and LP had a child it would be this one
FYI: Eastwood has some sales that give substantial discounts. Easy to get 20% off. They also have a point system that counts "Guitpoints" after purchases and can be applied to future purchases. A Mondata with mini humbuckers hangs to my left and is quite nice.
Really really digging the Mondata. Looks absolutely gorgeous in gold, turquoise, and ice blue… three colors I normally hate on guitars, but with the nickel hardware and black pick guards they’re fantastic colors.

My Combinata XVii has traditional P90’s.
Stacked is usually a different sound, but quiet.
FANTASTIC SOLO!!! Cool guitar
Stop deleting my comments, and stop trying to steal from people on this channel
Every guitar is expensive when you are broke like me... :(
:(
Build your own! Frankenstein one.
Awesome feature sets and unique riffs on classic body shapes. Very cool guitars
Hard to choose, they're both such beautiful guitars. Thanks for the demo, Darrell:)
Lovely looking and sounding guitars. Would love to see a review of the Rivolata Regatta - semi hollow, with a comparison to other similar priced semi-hollows.
They're amazing guitars. I've been eyeing the 3 mini-humbuckers model for a while now.
I bought the black Mondata with 3 mini-hums. It is just beautiful.
@@farmduck2762 I've been looking at that one. There's a Bigsby equipped one in my local shop. Awesome guitar!
I love if you look at the combinatos back in the burst finish its the perfect shape of a guitar pic but they're both beautiful
The Combinata looks like a Rickenbacker Combo 600. Very nice.
He's reading my mind. I got a Mondata yesterday.
i really love Brian may guitars. so versatile, the tones are endless. you can even, if you want to, change the pickups and get a totally different sounding beast. but why would you want to?

The Mondata in Camino Burst is stunning!
I've been looking at both of these on their site for a while now. Thanks for the review! I definitely want both, but will probably get the Mondata first.
My Rivolta baritone is fantastic! Incredible quality for the price. Highly recommend!
I want the affordable novo! Love it, if you get a chance please review the baritone. Thank you

Great sounding, great looking guitars & playing & amp/fx that did them justice too🤟🏼✊⚡️🎵🎶🤘🏼

They were alot nicer when they were under 1000 bucks.
"... the Zenyatta, and the very cool Mondatta!" 😄😉
I really love the Mondata! I want one.
You're normally very good on the clean tone front, but i would love some clean tones
I would love to see a review of the Rivolta Doucata. It's a bit like a tele but it's not. I appreciate you reviewing these guitars because of the way they are marketed it's impossible to try them out before ordering one.
Great review. I have a lefty Combinata with P90’s on preorder. Now I’m even more excited.
I can’t figure out how to message on RUclips. I’ll send a message on IG.
Combinata for aesthetics, Mondata for tones-especially the P90 in the neck.
Glad to see these, but why no straight clean sounds?
They make a Lefty so they don't suck. Beautiful guitars.
The switching reminds me of the prs 24-08.

i'm diggin the bodies on these guitars, they're like a cross between d'angelico's and univox's
I have been waiting to buy the yamaha p 90 revstar when it becomes available but now youve got me thinking. boy what should I do
I have a mondata amazing guitar just a few small issues that really annoy me.. nut cut was terrible and a few finish issues.
Both really nice looking guitars!
Love my mondata 2 Jr. Has become one of my favorites
Has anyone tried doing some rewiring to actually bypass those two tone switches on the Mondo Mondata? I feel like they might be complicating the circuit and aren't really necessary. Also thinking about swapping out the humbucker with something a bit hotter.
Can you review the epiphone les paul Prophecy maybe?
Rivoltas are beautiful, I only wish they had kept the block inlays!
I've been eyeing a Combinata with P 90s and a Bigsby

You jumped over the various tones from the Mondo using both pickups and the toggles. Were they not that impressive?
I don’t think I have a favourite one. I’ve been looking at this line for a while. Seems like an extremely good value with a unique modern take but yet retaining a classic 60s vibe.

Love the sunburst One🎸💯
Mondata has more tone choices ;it seems very bright and crispy …I don’t like the buzzy sound too much though.
And the clean sound, how is it?? . This is the most important for me.. All guitars have the same sound, or almost when there is distortion..
