Where exactly is this in Norway? I’m going to Alaska in June to see walruses but they’re all male adults. I’d love to see the baby calves as well

Hi it is on the Spitsbergen archipelago.. far north from Norway mainland.. and there it is on the east-coast which is not inhabited... on the island of Edgeøya. I know of two colonies there .. one at Cap Lee and one in Tuvfjorden with small ones... this is a very remote area and in addition there are a lot of new rules where you can go... i am afraid walrusses are mostly found on remote places..... but you can ask Paul Sounders on Fb if he knows something at Greenland....

@@BertholdHinrichs Thank you for the response. I don't mind remote. How does one get to these island of Edgeøya? Do you take your own boat to visit this island or is it possible to charter a boat? Do you need a permit to visit the island and is it possible to camp there? Thank you!

Hi @@sergioreyes1970 i got there with my own boat.. ( some videos on this channel... ) .. but there are ( or have been.. ) some boats where you can book a place.. usually you have no influence where to go... and anyway.. now there is a lot of ice and it will not disappear until july... and sometimes the ice blocks the Hinlopen strait later in summer too.. so there is only access from the south... and few boats go there.. one who goes everywhere possible is Heinrich Eggenfeller.. look at Arctica expeditions.. or get some info at Spitsbergen travel.. the autoritie up there is Sysselmesteren ( governor of Spitsbergen ) they also deal with permits.. only way to this place is by boat.. so you dont need to camp.. luckily... because there are a lot of polarbears

@@BertholdHinrichs Thank you so much for this information. This summer I'm going to "haul out" with the Pacific walruses camping on some remote island near the Bering Straight but I'd like to get up & close with the Atlantic walruses in the next 3 years. I'll make it over to Norway in the summer months.
