I come here to say: this is good music.
Why? let me explain.
first of all,i would like to talk about this beat melody progression. If you see,all these notes are almost semi ton. This,make you brain really uncomfortable. We used to listen to music on "normal" scales.(like minor scale,major scale) Really clean and pure. I mean,without this "strange" sensation of harmony. which never complete itself. This is called "greek tonal mode" i know,that it does not sound like Greek music AT ALL. but is just how it called. Strange notes,strange tonal sensations,strange musical perspective. or maybe none of these scales. only notes that make sense to a certain feeling. THIS IS REAL MUSIC. that make you feel the real emotions. not be always in the same scales minor and major. because they can not bring all human feelings.
About how they sing; they sing is the same way of the melody. they use semi ton notes to make you even more puzzled, confused and stressed.(remember? your brain gets it uncomfortable way. because is not common. the melody) but now,they use LYRICS to give you a meaning of this emotional stress. And what they talk about? A girl,missing something,loosing something,someone.(and this is not good at all,right?) big sean has a scratchy voice and take it even more uncomfortable.
It is an artistic work,if you see at 1:21 is a big reference to the French moment of impressionism. reminds me of "Claude Monet, Impression sunrise painting" and generally, the painters of expressionism and impressionism create beautiful paintings, but sometimes very melancholic. (this song is like that,i think) expressionism more, I would say.
yeah,art is that. not always bringing good feelings and happiness. sometimes stress, sadness, agony. thats why is so beautiful.
I would say that this feeling is someone who dive into alcohol after discovery of a loving betrayal.
I may be traveling, but it can make sense. Who cares? this is art.
