We don't. When you're ringside, you can hear when someone is taking undefended power punches. It's a nasty sound. You never forget it. He was absolutely gone. His *youth* is the only thing that kept him from going out cold completely. If this was a heavyweight boxing fight against the ropes, that dude's corner would have thrown in the towel. He was on the verge of catching a career altering orbital fracture at that point, even with the fence grab.

Sucks for Tallison and your parlay, given how you want to argue this, but the right call was made, regardless of our supposed bias of Derrick Lewis.

When I first watched this, I thought it was an early stoppage. After clearly seeing the fence climbing, it was a fair stoppage.

That’s way past a warning. That’s game changing to do that. If he doesn’t use the cage, he doesn’t get up at all regardless, so the end result is the same.
Fighters know the rules. You have to defend yourself on your own, not using the environment (other than the mat obviously).
All casuals in the comments Herzog is one of the greatest refs, he wouldn’t have stopped it if Texeira wasn’t climbing the fence.

If the foul occurs in other circumstances then warnings and point deductions are better penalties. It's should be context dependent.

The ref had to stop it in order to make sure he did not get that advantage, but Lewis was in the middle of his barrage of punches. There are no time outs in MMA, so the only thing you do is rightfully stop the fight and call it for Lewis.
Sucks for Tallison and your parlay, given how you want to argue this, but the right call was made, regardless of our supposed bias of Derrick Lewis.
