Finally a fantastic version, where the tenor sings what he's supposed to. puccini was very exact and would have written an ossia, if he had wanted the tenor to go for the high c. (the tenors are usually all flat on the high c!!!!)
Konya never sang Heldentenor roles like Siegmund, Siegfried, Tannhauser or Tristan, just lighter German parts like Lohengrin, (in which he is sovereign), Walther and Erik.
The lyrical sweetness Konya has and the every youthful timbre of Lorengars Voice is a sublime combination...Grande Voice of the past ...
This was the recording that hooked me on to opera ...Konya and Lorengar...30 Years ago.
I really love Lorengar's voice. It's a shame she is not better known today.
