Thank you for this. I was totally unaware of Ronnie and Roy until the Pandemic. I don't know how I could have missed them. They were wonderful and I love their ballads and their beautiful instrumentals. Plenty of history here.
Maybe the best ever version of Flower of Scotland. I just wonder.... 1968... the Beatles had introduced Indian music into western "rock and pop" music. There's no escaping the sitar-like runs all through this fantastic version of the Corries' fantastic song.
A great comfort and joy me the Corries have been to me over the years they have that ability to go to depth of ones soul and bring that feeling of wonder and joy their will never be another like them
I was fortunate enough in either late 1963 or early 1964 to attend a hootenanny (as was wont) at the Waverley Town Hall in Edinburgh, where I first heard the Corrie Folk Trio and Paddie Bell (bless her) and Roy Williamson first performed the Flower of Scotland.. Loved it then.. Not so sure now..that it's become the national anthem.
As a New Zealander that my Scots family came here over the 30s and 50s, I was born in NZ although conceived in Canada but things didn't work out so my parents chose to come to NZ to be with my Mums parents and her sisters in 1960. I became aware of the Corries in the late 60s, not sure why other posters don't have a clue until quite recently. Amazes me. How Scots are ya ?
Great lads. May Roy rest in peace, mr Browne live many more years and their people achieve true emancipation.
You have no idea how much this is my comfort music duo
Roy Williamson's daughter Karen says in her book about her father "Flower of Scotland" that he eventually felt "trapped by his fame."

Just discovered the Corries, my life much richer for it. Telling all my friends about them. Their music goes through me directly to my heart and soul.

I wonder if Roy ever dreamed when he wrote Flower of Scotland that it would become the huge anthem it is ttoday.
