Kris said something that totally resonated with me, my Gretsch with the mini buckers sounds kind of like a beefed up Tele, probably why it is my favorite! (G5236 125th anniversary gold top Pro Jet) My Tele is my #2. Sweet tones from both of you! 😊👍 (Edit: oops! 125th)
Kris, Big fan of the Les Paul. The sound was fantastic You guys really blew up the room. It has to be great to have all the toys..love the dirty sounds. Awesome show
Whenever a Les Paul is plugged into a Plexi, stars align to form an arrangement of epic sonic pleasure and the gods of good tone are summoned to give their sonic blessings. god damn.
Oh my god This time I can’t decide, really. I heard amazing different tones and I liked them all. Can’t wait for the next video! Keep on like that guys, it’s always interesting and funny to see you As an actual bass player after 25yrs of guitar ,although I love Julia and her videos, I would really like to see a “competition “ like yours in the bass area. Cheers and take care Diego
its weird most youtube channels that predominantly use Fender swear they arent really 'Les Paul' guys, yet whenever I see them use a LP they seem to have an absolute blast.
I can’t determine a winner in the first two rounds, I think it’s a matter of opinion. I personally liked Guillome’s tone better, but again, they were super different sounds. Now, on the third round… oh, man! Guillome’s tone was the quintessential Les Paul tone, but boy does it sound good! It was quite something to admire! 😄 P.S: I can’t wait for the Tosin Abasi Guitars tone challenge! That will be a spectacle to behold! Hahaha 😜
G FTW … guitar-cable-amp. Best advice I never took was from Paul G from The Quireboys he said I just use the amp cranked up. I asked but what about clean sounds? He said “just use your volume knob!”
This time it's really hard to decide. I mean sure Marshall is Marshall, nothing more to say about that. But both sounds were amazing! So you both get a thumbs up from me 👍😊🎸
The only thing missing was a back and forth over a backing track. Normally I dont like fuzz, but holy cow Kris' tone really got "that" tone. But, c'mon, nothing beats a LP into a cranked Marshall, G, you the man!.
Guys, you surprise me today, very !!! All sounds are so rich, everyone chose a different territory and we could see and hear a wide range. That was tasty! If you don't mind, can I suggest another subject: 2 people, 2 different guitars and 2 different SOLID state amps. Everyone will show his own conception for the clean and dirty channel, how to get it. What we have: boss nextone, orange crush 60 and others. What do you think?
Both are very good contemporary representations of the Gibson Les Paul Standard🔥🎸 But if you want to capture that elusive vintage tone, you have to find a luthier that builds with pre-industrial era old growth Honduran Mahogany & Brazilian Rosewood with horsehide glue. I know it sounds like fairy dust, but it is truly THE lost ingredient. I set out to bust this idea as a myth and came away a true believer. In fact, with a little research, I was able to obtain such a guitar through a hobbyist luthier in Arizona who had taken back one of his vintage LP replicas with all of the vintage characteristics - but without the hardware & electronics - for a mere $1200. After adding CreamTone replica hardware and Wizz Paul Kossoff pickups, I spent a grand total of $2300. But did it make a difference? Well, I have around thirty electric guitars including Gibson Les Paul Standards & ESs, Fender CS, American, Japan & MIM Strats & Teles, Washburn N4s, Ibanez, Kramer, Jackson, PRS, Squier, Epiphone & more. All sound fine and many have been modded for my personal preferences for Live and/or the studio. I've been doing this since the Eighties and I've never played a guitar that actually roars like this replica. It literally defies convention. I can't explain this, but it actually sounds noticeably louder - yes, I said louder - than any other guitar!! Most important, it definitely possesses that throaty, 'coming down with a cold', ES hollowbody-like tone that the OGs have - and I was able to do it without breaking the bank. For sound comparison, look up these guitars on yootoob. The Green/Montrose/Moore burst, Bernie Marsden's The Beast, Keith Richard's burst, Gibhon's Pearly Gates and Paul Kossoff's burst all have this in common. ruclips.net/video/P_yBCZ-pzxY/видео.html
Well I call bullshit. Put same electronics into any other les paul and I'm willing to bet money you wouldn't be able to tell them apart in a blind A/B test, let alone in any musical context or mix.
Ilmiras Churmatulinas Well, all I can say is, if you can get a hold of an original '58-'60 or one built with comparable wood and construction, you'll likely change your opinion. you'll actually hear it without any electronics. One test is to hold and hang the guitar by the neck at the 12th fret then knock on the body. It will resonate like a bell and you'll feel it through your grip. Another test is to hold the guitar upright, rest the strap button on a wood floor and strum the guitar. It will resonate like a stand-up bass and you'll feel it in the floor
My Gibson is a Cobain Jaguar... Sounds like a sax with the tone dialed down and I wouldn't trade it for a Gibson. I had to do some minor mods at the bridge to stop the annoying posts from doing their walking thing with Teflon tape to use the tremolo. That said, I can hit a LP tone all day and the only other mod I have planned to do to it is make a component change on the rhythm circuit because I want a little more clarity and treble out of it. I'm perfectly fine with guitar forever, but i still like single coil fuzz more.
You can’t beat a Les Paul into a Marshall. I run my LP standard with an Antiquity pup in the neck and a Gibson Burstbucker Pro in the bridge into a series of overdrives then into a Marshall SV20H reverse jumpered (plugged into the normal channel) set to the edge of breakup. I push the front end of the amp with the pedal(s) as needed. Makes for a pretty versatile gain structure. Oh, and I put a reverb pedal in the loop for some room ambience. Fun series, guys. Guillaume wins this one on sheer brute force!
My idea of Best lp sound is woody , deep, thick but hollow. I dunno how to describe "hollow" here. Not sure if the comparison of alnico n ceramic pick up is similar.
Surprise surprise, this one just must go to Guill. Crancked plexi + Les Paul just fits everything. And with the OD-1, oh my oh my ... Love you Guill. Sorry Kris.
For me Kris handsdown won the clean tones. But the overdriven tones would be a tie, two different but fantastic tones in their own right. This being said Kris I’ve been following your Les Paul videos, because I’ve also been chasing the “Tele on steroids sound” and I feel happier now with my Les Paul tone than I ever have before. I hate muddy tone and that is the Les Paul’s biggest weakness.
I think Guillaume wons. I think Kris wons in the 1st round but Guillaume in the 2nd and 3rd. Can u do a Marshall Battle? You both choose a Marshall and a Guitar which you like and we will find out the best sound. Thx
Can I call yall RED and Friend I did not get the other Gents name he is very very good also good job ! I like clear tone I allways use open chords to judge tone
Sorry G. , Kris won this 2 to 1. I loved G"s clean tone better, but after that, Kris didn't depend soley on the cranked Marshall for his sound. Sure, a cranked Marshall with an LP is The Sound, you went to the well once too often. The fuzz just killed for the insane tone and the crunch was too mush for G in the crunch round. Great vid, thx
Thanks for the comment Curtis! Yeah the only problem with a cranked Marshall is, well... that it's cranked. haha! Where could you ever use it that way, unless you attenuated the hell out of it. :D //Kris
Always depends on what you want. There's no better or worse, just what somebody prefers. I use my modded Traditional through a JHS Sweet Tea v3 for rock, Catalinbread Katzenkonig for fuzzy stuff, and EVH 5150 iii 50w Stealth blue and red for heavier sounds. I don't play much clean, but can do it on just the green, or rolling the volume off with the JHS etc. It isn't my main guitar as it is too heavy - no weight relief!
I clicked on this video because I was hoping to see a comparison of P90, classic ‘57 type or PAF’s or whatever different pickups in a standard Les Paul. No offense, truly so, but I don’t really care which one of you plays more comfortably on a LP. 🤣😉✌️

I think both approaches were legit. Hope well see a superstrat challenge and a surf guitar contest.
It would be nice to see for both of you the DbMeter ... Especially with the cranked Marshall.

Pete Townsend gravitated towards the 70s Les Paul Deluxe, into a Superfuzz and a bunch of high powered amps so make of that what you will.
