I am also facing this problem. Let me try to see if it works. However, I strongly feel that the print cartridge should me the first to be taken out before disassembling other parts and also the last to be inserted after assembling other parts.

Edit:
Cleaned the laser unit as prescribed. Also cleaned the inside of the scanner assembly, but fault still exists. Can anyone suggest if firmware upgrade will solve the problem?
