  • No member of the Hugo Chavez Book Club (not even President Obama) can truly be prepared to discuss Eduardo Galeano's 'Open Veins of Latin America' without viewing Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez' interview with Mr. Galeano from May 19th, 2006 on Democracy Now.

    A brilliant Son of Latin America, a true Humanitarian with a world vision of the oneness of the human family. All young men and women should take the time to read the books of this great man whose works are a mind -opener for us to understand what was done by the so-called powers who up to this day still have control of Latin America as well as the rest of the world in general. He will always be remembered for his honesty and fearlessness for exposing the strangle-hold the rich and powerful have over the majority of suffering humanity.

If you really wanna fall in love with Galeano's words it'll be better if you listen or read translations..... Don't get me wrong ppl! he's doing great in english, but if you compare to his spanish you'll know what I'm talking about.

    That term, "the cult of impotence" was also used as a book title by Canadian investigative journalist Linda McQuaig. It's subtitle: Selling the Myth of Powerlessness in the Global Economy. We are not so powerless, as the powers that be would have us think. If only we'd band together & work for positive change so that there may be a future. It's up to us people

    He himself says that his ancestry is European, so does his bio, so do his publishers and his critics. It means just what it says. In all of the Americas, North and South, the ruling class has been the peoples of European origins. The United States, Canada, Argentina and Uruguay are especially European-centric societies. Yes, there are other cultures, but the dominant cultures are European and Mr. Galeano has benefited enormously from that.

      Of course, Europeans invented almost everything and were explorer and are the most advanced people (fact).
      When you have an ethnic group surpassing European inventions, then we talk.

    You nailed it on the head! I am a Latino, however I'm not blinded by all the rethoric or "anti-imperialistic" talk by Mr. Galeano. This book (open veins...) is just good in history, but it does't bring any solutions or suggestions to the table. 'Just a whining kid complaining about his share'
    No apologies necessary

    I don't know why but it bothers me that an amazing man like him... such an intellectual
    would even use the example
    for even one momen
    t of Christopher Columbus
    and the fuckary* of him having "discovered America" 💔 ....from such an intellectual man
    to use that example out of all examples!! In his classic writings
    When he could have referenced for his example anything else!
    It's very painful from someone like me .... that comes from the very Island
    The Columbus bastard tried to destroy & committed his genocide on!
    However his writings are incredible pieces of our history that I appreciate very much

    • @Jahida360
      @Jahida360 2 года назад

      @Eric P. Writer at the part where you said you find it a bit ridiculous to discredit 👀😒.... you just left an extremely long comment to say nothing ... it's full of toxic masculinity that lacks historical study on Latin American Writers who are more than capable of explaining and documenting the indigenous experience so please go blah blah blah somewhere else you're typing for the sake of typing literally you said nothing... it wasn't like I sat here and bashed him

    • @Jahida360
      @Jahida360 2 года назад

      @Eric P. Writer funny how you just said that he believed Columbus was a great conquistadora and in the same comment tried to persuade me that his whole intent was to document and give voice to the oppressed people of the world what ...contradicting collaboration of words i call (datFucksh!t) lol.... and if you go back and read my first comment minus the need for your long-winded reply that said nothing..
      I gave him respect as to why i said i was sad about what he wrote
      and as a descendant of these indigenous that suffered the "heroism" 😒 of Columbus and European monsters yes including spain...
      that was more than generous!!
      Don't say a whole bunch of words put together that say nothing an underestimate someone else's intellectual capabilities in clearly thinking your .../schooling\ them but in reality
      it was an empty reply
      But since you wanna type lets goooo 😆

    • @Jahida360
      @Jahida360 2 года назад

      @Eric P. Writer also all your quotations are subliminal aggression and you cannot compare immigrants from South America in the same context in which you're saying Invaders because Mexicans and South Americans don't come here and commit a mass genocide like monrole Doctrine Behavior colonizers have done...like most Europeans have across the planet... perhaps you should go read that
      you know what the Monroe Doctrine was?
      .... to use people seeking Refuge here because United States of America politically has committed atrocities to their governments back home and made the conditions unlivable ... just so that the United States can profit and their proxy wars which is what they do all over the world and have always done... the people living with nothing ending violence because the United States has caused this have no right to call them Invaders in quotations with their subliminal aggression in comparison when it's not comparable AT ALL
      for them to migrate here for a better life and opportunity cannot be put into the same category as your quotation of Invader... that is a disgusting perspective it is very popular guys with white supremacist and people that call themselves patriotic to this country but refuse to recognize the atrocities of this country... you subliminally have
      not comparable
      and if you want to go further back into history those so-called Mexicans are indigenous descendants and most of all of this United States is their land
      again until the colonizers the commit Mass genocide came here to

    Si, este libro es muy bueno. es muy bueno en describir la historia de latino america, pero sin embargo no dice o sugiere ninguna solucion a la presente situacion de crimen o de gobiernos corruptos e irresponsables. No dice nada de la facilidad conque los governates se venden.
    Eduardo Galeano en referencia a Latino America dice: "Es una cultura tradicional de impotencia" Esa es una actitud IRRESPONSABLE, eso es enterrar la cabeza en el suelo y seguir quejandose y no buscar solucion

      Lo que pasa es que las soluciones no le gustan al imperio y mandan a matar a los que quieren cambiar la historia de Latinoamérica a través de las dictaduras o la nueva herramienta el Lawfare+medios de comunicación, es sabido que la derecha nos hundio siempre en repetidas veces en Ecuador acaba de ganar la derecha, los medios mienten la gente les creen y se pegan un tiro en el pie, sabes por que no hay golpes de estado en eeuu? Por q en eeuu no hay embajada de eeuu

    Galeano is a very good writer. I love his style. But, that does not change the fact that his best seller is a piece of crap, just make believe collectivist rhetoric. As Galeano admitted himself cultura.elpais.com/cultura/2014/05/05/actualidad/1399248604_150153.html
