  • Houston Mayor John Whitmire has just confirmed to FOX 26 that severe weather has turned fatal in the Bayou City.
    Whitmire said that four people lost their lives as a result of Thursday's weather in an interview with FOX 26 Houston.
    It's unclear where the fatalities occurred as first responders are still working to clear debris. City and county officials are urging drivers to stay off the roads, so emergency crews can get to areas safely.
    According to CenterPoint Energy, more than 1 million customers were without power.
    "There has been damage to several of our facilities in the Houston-area service territory," CenterPoint Energy said in a statement. "As the line of severe weather has made its way through our region, it is now safe for our crews to begin assessing damage but can confirm we’ve experienced significant damage to our system."
    Meanwhile, the severe weather across the Houston area has led to some school districts canceling class on Friday, May 17.

      Ok yes all 6 million people in Houston and surrounding areas were not affected but at one point 1 million households were without power (now it's around 800k). 4 deaths so far. The Northwest Houston area (especially Cypress and Katy areas) got hit very hard. Flooding isn't the issue this time, it was the 100+ mph winds. That's hurricane levels. Large power towers look like crumpled scrap metal. Ive been here all my life and have seen all the storms in recent memory and this one ranks up there with the best of them. The best thing about this one is it was fast moving and no flooding, so recovery won't be as bad as the others. It sounds like you were blessed today don't minimize what others are going through

      This storm came through Katy/Cypress areas and tracked Southeast through Downtown and out towards Clear Lake. When the storm reached Clear Lake area, there may have been some weakening but when coming through Downtown it was easily 80-90 mile winds. According to Channel 13 it was about 20 miles wide. I was in ny car trying to outrun this thing, and had just dropped someone off at Minute Maid park.. I pulled over in Southeast Houston and found shelter in a Fiesta grocery store, which had no power. I was trying to make it home near Almeda Genoa but the storm was moving so fast and the sky literally went from daylight to black in minutes the wind was rocking and pushing my car. Other people pulled over and ran in the store, we were stuck there for an hour before we started leaving. We saw wind rocking cars on the parking lot and heavy rain at one point we couldnt see the cars on the parking lot for the rain andthe darkness. SUPER SCARY! It was like the black clouds were on the ground, I'Ve never seen anything like it, even in a hurricane. When i finally left, I saw trees down, but nothing like the damage in the west and Downtown area, where building collapsed and electric towers were blown down.... that's my long story

  • @Summertyme75
    @Summertyme75 29 дней назад +10

    What made it so bad was it was unexpected for most and it was during the evening rush hour traffic. Most expected just regular houston thunderstorms and a maybe a little light flooding in the usual, expected areas. This time flooding wasn't the issue at all, it was the 90-115 mph winds. No one was expecting hurricane force winds out of nowhere. Even the mayor got caught offguard at a kids softball game

      Especially when amped up at the rate of a 30 megaton nukes worth of additional energy trapped from the sun that cannot be lost to space, every five minutes, doubling every 33 years as a result of all the crap we loft into the air in order to produce the crap we buy that we mostly don't need all so a handful can buy a second yacht for every day of the week. If people think events like this and the 2017 Harvey event are bad, y'all just wait and see what's cooking for such places post 2040 due to the slight inconvenience of this no longer being the version of earth you were born due to our alterations of it, with this version having not existed for over 3 million years when it had much wilder weather.

There were some good things to happen. The temperature was in the mid-60s, it washed away the mosquito larvae, the sun came out before dark, and our power came back at 2AM.

    4 people dead and many broken windows, my condolences. Still, it could have been worse, it could have been 35,000 men women and children dead and the entire city in ruins. Now that would be a tragedy...

    So much for the endless EU reactor videos saying if only we built out of brick nothing would be damaged....

    • @Nine-Signs
      @Nine-Signs 29 дней назад +1

      There are no standard residential houses anywhere in Europe nor the UK where I live that can survive 100mph sustained winds without damage despite being made of brick. Gusts up to 120mph sure but not sustained, and even with gusts it will still result on roof damage to some. Our houses are certainly better built than your average American home usually built from match sticks, but they have their limits.

I am surprised I haven't seen it blamed on HAARP nor space lasers yet but I am sure they will be in here along side your bollocks somewhere.
