There is moving big tanks and then there is moving big tanks in tight places with stairs and no room to move which creates a whole new lot of problems. Luckily the biggest tank I have moved was a 6x2.5x2.5 and that was on level ground so I used a Lift table, a couple of flat trolleys and gravity.
Should have got them to build it on site.. it would cost more but saves people getting injured and a ton of hassle.. Awesome tank though can’t wait to see it up & running..
That tank looks heavy!! people don’t really understand how big these tanks really are untill they see it in person. U can imagine the dimensions in ur head but when u see it it always looks way bigger than u thought. Good job on moving that tank down those stairs!! 👍👍
OMG!!! I shop at Aquatica for my fresh and saltwater tanks!! The Korean guy in the aquatica shirt is the owner and he is so nice and smart when it comes to the hobby! Love it there!
I'm currently working on a harness and strap setup that will allow 8 people to move up to a 1000 gallon tank with relative ease and very litte strain on the back. Prototype will happen but have to figure out where to sell it. Similar to the harnesses appliance handlers use to move large appliances into homes.
The team work was great and well organised until the bottom two steps. This is where, as they say " if you fail to plan the plan will fail " On the bottom steps a small platform needs to be erected to bridge from the penultimate bottom step to the floor. This will then alleviate the pressure concentrated on the lower corner of the tank. You could even go as far as rollers to ease the free movement of the tank into the basement. Great video and an excellent project to work on, looking forward to the follow up video.
Rico's Aquariums l totally agree Rico, it’s great to have friends that will turn up to help you when in need it’s one of the things that make our lives what they are. 👊
Rico always says... "Go Big or Go Home!" awesome Than. Thanks for filming this best you could. Rico has a passion and when he is convinced of it, he does it. That's our Rico! Hope you didnt break your back to do the rest of it Rico. This is still only the begining. Stay Reefing and High 5! Mel
This is insane, lol! Glad everyone made it out alive and well, sounds like Rico will soon have a few opportunities to risk his life for your tanks as well 😂
I watched Rico’s video and noticed you in the background at a point a few times. Glad you shared this on your end. I can’t even imagine going through that and what you did. My buddy and I moved a 125 down into my basement. It was an incased sideways stair, not a walk out. That’s no comparison to what you guys did though! Way to save the day!!!
I saw Rico's video but I had to cheat and fast forward to the end and see the tank in its place first then I went back and watch the rest of the video because I couldn't take it. Your video was no problem to watch lol. Thanks for sharing.
Tanks over 6’x2’x2’ should really be built on site. It’s relatively easy to lift bigger tanks with enough people. The problems start with doors and corridors. You end up with people either end struggling with no possible way of others helping them.
Your the man Than ! I would of been freaking out too about pulling the crow bar out . I definitely would of made sure to double up on the straps and winch for safety .Glad the move worked out . I know how much of a pain my 300 was to move in. Glad I also had good help. As always great video !
On a positive note, if you got stuck in the basement, it looks like there's enough room for someone to squeeze a sandwich down to you crazies! Haha, nice video! Take a look at my 1,000 gallon (plastic) tank - I was able to roll it across the lawn by myself =)
The LFS store that I worked for would hire a piano moving company for whenever they had to move something over 500 gallons. And those guys knew how to move something that weighed a ton and also cost a lot. (Keep in mind grand pianos can cost over $30-50k)
Watch the video on Rico channels, it's quiet something to do ! Didn't know about Rico's back. Glad everything went ok, so heavy and chance to break something very high !
Amazing than! Glad you didn't get smashed by the beast! Wish I could have been there... got rearended the Friday night before and my back is about as bad as Rico's
It was great being able to see the view of the tank coming down into the basement because us up top were just hoping it wouldn't go crashing down the steps 😂 Video still came out great even if you had to abandon the camera and help a few times 😁
And my best advice would be to have it built in the room that it’s gonna be set up in. I know sometimes that’s impossible but for the amount of money u gotta pay for the tank I would spend a little extra to have someone come build it for me
I dont know..big glass tanks have a way of giving way after a few years or so. I think I would be less nervous with central bracing. I have a 240, 35 year old acrylic and you cant make those leak if you tried. I just get used to the scratches-lo.
Scratching can be unsightly but at least it is reparable with some effort and the right tools. The bigger issue I see is crazing and the damage caused by organisms like coralline algae.
Just a question but why wasn't the tank just built sheet by sheet where he wanted the tank, a lot easier to take sheets of glass into the house and down the stairs
Hi! Im about to move my tank its only 90 gallons. Do you know what suction cups you used for the move? Im looking to buy some for an easier carry. Thanks!
I'm planning to move a 200 gallon glass tank. It's the Elos 160XL. What suction cups did you guys use? Do you have a link:? Or maybe I can take them off Rico's hands? Thanks
Would it be better to build a tank this large in its final space instead of moving it into place? Remove carpets so tanks and ramps can be moved easier? Buy a house with fish room on first floor or walkout basement? Build the house around your dream tank!
I asked Felix from Reef Savvy about having tanks built in place and at what point that makes sense. He basically said if there is no way to get the tank into the place (door size restrictions or on the 40th floor of a building) that is the only time it makes sense. The cost of building on site I guess is astronomically high.
Tidal Gardens I’ve seen Mr saltwater tank and Melev both use cranes and forklifts to place tanks safely but underground basements are the most problematic. Just be happy that your new place is a barn sized place with huge access points! But you had the advantage of building around the tank layout plans (my guess). Very brave of you to put yourself under half a ton of glass-was that after a few beers?
Building on site is an option, but from every place I talked to, it is substantially more expensive. It might make sense if the builder is coming and building a LOT of tanks but for a single tank, it might double the cost.
priority shouldve been buying a bigger house with openings and areas more suitable for this hobby.. this is nuts. but respect to the owner and this crew that got that glass in its spot safely.. bonkers
It was made by the husband and wife seen in the video. I honestly don't know the name of their company and they keep it down low that they even make tanks. They don't have a website or anything saying they are custom tank makers even though they have been doing it a long time.
I have a new found appreciation for what it takes to move a really big tank. What is the biggest tank you've ever moved and do you have any tips?
There is moving big tanks and then there is moving big tanks in tight places with stairs and no room to move which creates a whole new lot of problems. Luckily the biggest tank I have moved was a 6x2.5x2.5 and that was on level ground so I used a Lift table, a couple of flat trolleys and gravity.
Biggest tank I’ve ever moved? A 550ish glass aquarium into Rico’s basement 😂😂😂. That thing was no joke. Pleasure meeting you.
Should have got them to build it on site.. it would cost more but saves people getting injured and a ton of hassle.. Awesome tank though can’t wait to see it up & running..
5000 gal display in multiple pieces. 1800 with a crane. Communication and the right tools is key.
Sounds incredible!
That tank looks heavy!! people don’t really understand how big these tanks really are untill they see it in person. U can imagine the dimensions in ur head but when u see it it always looks way bigger than u thought. Good job on moving that tank down those stairs!! 👍👍
👊👍
What are the exact suction cup handles they attached to the tank and where can I purchase them?
Oh no!!!! I hope that Rico's back gets better. Thank you Than and everyone else who helped to make this happen❤
Handy knowing rico he’s a big lad for helping moving stuff 👍🏻👍🏻
👊👍
You got Rico's back Than. Literally man.... Peace & love
👀🤣🤣🤣👊👍
Holy Jippers...man tht was a tight fit kudos to those guys who moved it.....really impressive logistics here folks.....
OMG!!! I shop at Aquatica for my fresh and saltwater tanks!! The Korean guy in the aquatica shirt is the owner and he is so nice and smart when it comes to the hobby! Love it there!
👊👍
If it was me, I would mounted so huge aquarium in the basement for sure 😃 Think it would be easier.
Now that's dedication to the hobby . Going to be such a sweet tank!
👊👍

Glad You’re ok Than! Congrats Rico! You’re lucky to have good Reefing Buddies
Thanks brotha👊👍

Great footage Than! Glad nobody died or got hurt. The winch was a great call i’d say.
👊👍
Ocean care relocation does this !!
Great video hopefully he is doing better. It was a successful move and no one died
WOW!!! Lesson learned here...if I ever decide to have a tank this large...have it built in place! :-)
A lot more money for that or I would have👊👍
Glad your all still alive! Lol, great video and y’all are crazy! 👍
me too!
That is some kick ass glass
I’m really looking forward to this tank build. It’s an absolute beast.
👊👍
You out did yourself there Than. Rico better be grateful for you risking yourself for him😁
That's what friends do! I'm thankful for good friends like Than that came to help in this situation. This was not easy by any means 👊👍
Rico's Aquariums l totally agree Rico, it’s great to have friends that will turn up to help you when in need it’s one of the things that make our lives what they are. 👊
Glad Than is ok too cuz I wouldnt want the Tidal Gardens name to refer to a resting place. Dont wanna hear no Reef In Peace.

👊👍
WOW!!!! I felt your pain...great vid...awesome story!!!
👊👍
I agree on the comment of TheAugoti, build on site. I saw the video on Rico's channel and hoped you would share your footage, thanks for doing so.
Certainly enjoyed the whole saga. Very interesting. I built my 1000 gallon aquarium at its location. Only way to move, will be complete disassembly..
Big tank for sure. Was it glass or acrylic?
Hello.. Its actually DIY Plywood and Glass.. Its my 3rd Plywood build.. Ive had it running for about 2 months now.. I really dig Rico's tank !
Thanks 👊👍
This is insane, lol! Glad everyone made it out alive and well, sounds like Rico will soon have a few opportunities to risk his life for your tanks as well 😂
#ReefSquad :D
Hopefully he won't have to risk his life!
Glad your still here.. I think I'd start going into withdrawals without tg new content 😅
Dream tank right there.
Thanks! But I still have one more build in the future😁😁👊👍
I watched Rico’s video and noticed you in the background at a point a few times. Glad you shared this on your end. I can’t even imagine going through that and what you did. Have a link to that video?
ruclips.net/video/BZPTijV1RpI/видео.html&frags=pl%2Cwn
I wonder if it would be easier to have the glass brought in, and assemble it on site?
On the flip side, it's a amazing tank.
Thanks
Heal up Rico! Cant wait for this Monster!
I'm trying👊👍

AND ANYTHING OVER 200 gallons......ACRYLIC!
Nice work !!
Great story
👊👍
☺☺☺☺What a story!
Lol👊👍

Great video. Sweet tank!
👊👍
Took the usual summer break from the hobby and it's funny, I missed all the YT reefers!
Glad to see you back👊👍
I was just at aquatica 2 days ago! Than they are lucky they had you.
👊👍
On a positive note, if you got stuck in the basement, it looks like there's enough room for someone to squeeze a sandwich down to you crazies! Haha, nice video! Take a look at my 1,000 gallon (plastic) tank - I was able to roll it across the lawn by myself =)
well done

👊👍
Thats a great tip, wish i read that before I personally had to move my 400 gallon with my landscapers lol
Curious what the black euro-bracing material was under the glass euro bracing? Was that acrylic?
Watch the video on Rico channels, it's quiet something to do ! Didn't know about Rico's back. Glad everything went ok, so heavy and chance to break something very high !
Its was fun to see
👊👍
You're at the point where you remodel the home to fit the aquarium lol
🤣🤣👊👍
Amazing than! Glad you didn't get smashed by the beast! Wish I could have been there... got rearended the Friday night before and my back is about as bad as Rico's
That sucks. Hopefully you feel better. Back/neck pain is the worst.
☺ nice job!!
👊👍
That Tank is a beast! Its going to look SEXY! :) Than - you are very brave!
Why not just have a large tank like that built in the basement vs risking injury
Great vid I really enjoyed this one!!
👊👍
It was great being able to see the view of the tank coming down into the basement because us up top were just hoping it wouldn't go crashing down the steps 😂 Video still came out great even if you had to abandon the camera and help a few times 😁
👊👍
Wow, I'm working on a plan to move my 180 Gal. class tank that weighs 446lbs. Looks like I'm going to need more straps and those glass suction cups.
Leveled up!!
👊👍
Build a ramp out of the stairs with plywood and 2/4s
The best way is to build in place, period.
And my best advice would be to have it built in the room that it’s gonna be set up in. I know sometimes that’s impossible but for the amount of money u gotta pay for the tank I would spend a little extra to have someone come build it for me
It's alot extra 👊👍
Awesome!!!
Thanks 👊👍
countertop movers are the ones that can and know how to move large heavy stuff
Good luck taking the tank with you when you sell your home
No problem😁👊👍
Wow that last shot puts into perspective how deep that tank is front to back. The fish and corals will get lost in there...
🤣🤣👊👍
I wondered what the hold up was on the other video from the top and now we know. Hope his back recovers a bit to continue.
👊👍
Great video Than! I hope this convinces you to hire a rigging company to help move/place your tanks.
Oh I'm calling in the pros for sure.
Than I know you didn't go in there thinking you wasnt going to sweat a little. Lol. Lifting days are never over brotha!
🤣👊👍
Dang that a huge tank 😂😂😂
I dont know..big glass tanks have a way of giving way after a few years or so. I think I would be less nervous with central bracing. I have a 240, 35 year old acrylic and you cant make those leak if you tried. I just get used to the scratches-lo.

lesson, good to have good friends lol
Bwahahah, every time I watch this video I chuckle... oh the things we do for this silly hobby of ours!!! Bwahahahah
Just a question but why wasn't the tank just built sheet by sheet where he wanted the tank, a lot easier to take sheets of glass into the house and down the stairs
You: So it’s just me and Rico down here in the basement, with no way for me to get out.
Me: LOL! Some jokes just make themselves!
broke back Rico
My 300dd star fire was a pain in the ass to move too I can relate !
👊👍
You have 10 this size coming? Did I hear that right? Holy cow!
Yup, the first batch will be 10 tanks. It will be roughly half my new building. I haven't designed the other half just yet.
Tidal Gardens wow...and to think I keep debating on the best 70 gallon to upgrade to. Lol.
Ten tanks of huge size for personal fun? Or are you a business selling giant tanks and all the rest? Are you going glass also?
Looking great Rico and Than.
Thanks👊👍
Please let me know where I can get those blue cloves he has as his rock cover. I see stuff online about it being invasive and no one seems to sell it
What is the dimension of the tank?
how much does it cost? $10,000? Thanks
omg effing hell i just blew my back too just looking at this video.
👊👍
Hi! Im about to move my tank its only 90 gallons. Do you know what suction cups you used for the move? Im looking to buy some for an easier carry. Thanks!
These are the ones you want: amzn.to/2N37133
Do you have a link where I can order a hydrolic trolley like that
I do not sorry.
Hey man i love the tank! Where did you buy this from or where did you have it made?
I'm planning to move a 200 gallon glass tank. It's the Elos 160XL. What suction cups did you guys use? Do you have a link:? Or maybe I can take them off Rico's hands? Thanks

Why did I feel like i was trapped in that basement with you lol. I started looking around for shit to help
Quote of the day “but I actually did it!”
Great video definitely a nail biter ✊🏽🙏🏽
How thick is the glass? please!
3/4"
What the name of those thing they use to suction hold the sides
glass suction cups - amzn.to/39LWFP7
Not going to lool through all the comments to find if this has been said but wouldn't of been alot easier to just have it made there in the basement?

wow
👊👍
Looks great! What is the thickness of the glass? And by the way, you look pretty tall! Or is the ceiling quite low? lol
Link for the suction cups please
I think they are these: amzn.to/2XzG361
Forklift for you!
Oh yeah. I'll be renting every piece of equipment that has an outside chance of being helpful.
Who manufactured the tank?
Exotic aquariums👊👍
Can you pleas keep us updated on this aquarium
👊👍
priority shouldve been buying a bigger house with openings and areas more suitable for this hobby.. this is nuts. but respect to the owner and this crew that got that glass in its spot safely.. bonkers

For alot More money👊👍
why not just build the tank on site? I have a 4 meter tank in my basement, just had to get the panels in a a couple boxes of silicone.
Alot more money👊👍
Awesome video like always!! question: who build Rico’s tank? I’ll be getting a big tank too and I’m wondering it looks great
