  • Comedian and @irish_wheelchair_association ambassador @sirstevotimothyofficial for the first time tells the full story about how some online twitter banter with pal, Olympic medalist Paddy Barnes (@Paddy_Bronze) led to an idea to do a charity wheelchair boxing match "in a pub carpark" with a target of €2,000 and has drawn in one of the biggest combat sports stars in the world, Conor McGregor ( @thenotoriusmma ), ironically temporarily wheelchair bound, to what might be one the biggest charity events ever held in Ireland.
As soon as the idea first gained some traction, the Clayton Hotel Galway (@clayton_hotel_galway) were approached to host the event and as soon as they heard of the concept generously donated a room and Monivea Boxing club soon came on board with a donation of a ring for the event and offers came in thick and fast for Steve and Partner Roxie who have a philosophy that every penny donated to the event in ticket sales, donations, raffles etc will all go to the charity
When the event came to the attention of McGregor who called out @alforancomedy things soon escalated and now while the original event goes ahead on the 11th September in the Clayton Hotel Galway, plans for a huge event featuring the return to action of The Notorious one are proceeding in the backround. WIth the star power of McGregor backed by the organisation power of his team the fundraising target for the Irish Wheelchair Assocation has now shot into 6 figures with 33K aredy raised to date
