    I'm still new-ish to Christianity. My family has Protestant backgrounds. One side is non-denominational and the other is Lutheran but I didn't grow up going to church. Now that I've left my awful atheist-ish beliefs behind, I'm very interested in learning more about Catholicism. So I just wanted to say thanks for making this video. Gonna subscribe 😊

      That is great to hear! Welcome to the faith! Being a true follower of Jesus is difficult and your life is going to have to look different from those around you, but there are so many joys that come from following Him, too! One thing about Catholicism that you need to be aware of is that from the outside, it can look very dry and that it has lots of “rule,” but once you start diving deeper into why she has this teaching and that teaching you’ll realize it’s because we have such a rich history and there is so much depth and beauty to the Church and that true freedom is having boundaries so that it’s easier to tend towards the good! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and subscribed (thank you!), and I’ll be praying for you! Fr Mike Schmitz, Catholic Truth, and Pints with Aquinas are amazing Catholic RUclips channels if you want to check them out as well!

You could add: Matthew chapter 16, Luke chapter 1 and 2, Most of the rest of the Gospel of John Chapter 2, 14-17, 19, and especially 21:25, and Revelations 12:1. there are probably a few more, but you tried to keep the video under 15 minutes. Also I wanna add, 1 Timothy 2:5 if you read just this verse at the end of it is a comma not a period, you need to read verse 6 along with it otherwise its not complete. Remember these books weren't originally written with chapters etc so its even easier to read things out of context. So full context 1 Timothy 2:5-6 "5 For cthere is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man 1 Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is ethe testimony given fat the proper time." Cleary he is the ONLY one who can give his life as a RANSOM for all and no one else. In fact the Holy Spirit in John14 is spoken of as a mediator, Protestants love to read things out of context and it can lead them down a path of danger. The Lord have mercy on them and forgive their grave errors. You did a great job, I wish I began my journey at an age like you! Keep at it!

    I’m just coming to my faith for Jesus Christ. I’ve been having a lot of fun studying the Bible for the first time ever in my life, been studying as much as I possibly can the last 8 months. The two main issues I think about here is, will god even notice the difference if we include Mary or one believes they might be penalized for it, being that the Bible exclusively tells us were saved by his grace through our faith (Jesus). Thanks for your content. God bless you!

    • @southernbella8503
      @southernbella8503  13 дней назад

      I’m so glad to hear that you’ve been growing in your faith. There has nothing like studying the Bible. We could live 1000 years and never get all there is to get out of it! So to answer your question, I don’t really know what you mean by “notice a difference” in praying through Mary. It’s not something that we are “required” to do, but we can see the practice supported in scripture. In the Old Testament, the Queen of a King was not his wife but his mother (as we see when it says “The king rose to meet her, and bowed down to her; then he sat on his throne, and had a throne brought for the king’s mother, and she sat on his right” in Kings 2:19) and she served to take the people’s petitions and present them to the King. So Mary does the same in that she loves and cares for us because she wants all people to be united to her Son, so she is our advocate before Jesus. And as far as penalized for asking for her intercession, we are not worshipping her; we are asking her to pray for us, and I don’t see what Son would be jealous of affection shown to his own Mother. In the same vein, I can’t imagine what Son wouldn’t be upset by disrespect and indifference shown by people that claim to love him towards the woman who birthed, nursed, and raised Him and was at the foot of the cross watching Him die. Mary does not distract us from God but always draws us closer to Him. We are saved through Christ, but whose obedience lead to the incarnation? Mary’s. Since you have been studying the Bible a lot, I would advise you to look at the role of Bathsheba in the Old Testament. See how she is described by Nathan as an innocent lamb in his parable to David and see how she supports David and especially her son Solomon. I would also see how Jesus treats his Mother at the foot of the cross, making sure she is taken care of and gifting her to humanity through St John. Hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching! You are in my prayers.

      @ Thank you for hearing me and thank you for the information. Im not being bias just reaching for information, I am continuing to learn and study. However, testimony is a big deal and some of us claim Christ will speak to us, very subtle, but definitive evidence of the Christ in our daily lives today. A lot of these people do not worship Mary in this way but Christ still reveals his self to us. Predestination and free will can exist together! Why? Matthew 6:21 Jesus said for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. This is our free will, god does not cause it, being omniscient, he just knows it’s gonna happen. This how predestination and free will can exist together. John 1:3 he was with god in the beginning. There are days of reasoning in the Bible that explain were saved by grace through our faith or better said Ephesians 2:8-10. With my ever changing beliefs, cause they seem to change as we learn more, I don’t believe that Catholics will be penalized like some do, for trying to talk to Mary or any godly person for that matter I just believe you won’t be heard. Santa muerte on the other hand, we’ll just look at Mexicos problems. Again thank you, for being so kind and offering me the most helpful understanding of catholic beliefs. I will think about what you are saying thoroughly. Thank you so much and god bless you!

    I think it was the Catholic theologian Hans Urs von Balthasar that there are all sorts of Catholic practices which Protestants loathe when Catholics(!) do them but they treat as merely quaint when Eastern Orthodox(!) do them, thus having a "double standard". Part of the difference between praying with your church and invoking the saints is that the former are living, and the latter are deceased, and when we ask our friends or pastor for help, we do not use the preposition "to" when asking for prayer from our friends. Protestants are very uncomfortable with the dead generally. This is why they are more likely to believe that an apparent ghost is actually a masquerading demon rather than a real ghost. (When Shakespeare's Hamlet wonders if the appearance of his father is really(!) his father or a demon in disguise, he is touching on a major hot-button issue between Catholics and Protestants at that time.)
    The problems get more complex since Protestants have somewhat different "atonement" theologies re the reason for Christ's death, and Evangelical Protestantism in Europe is very different from same in America.
    I get a hair put off by the Catholic treatment of saint's statues, but I think my reasons are largely aesthetic and secular rather than theological.
    I lived in Texas during my elementary school years and am very directly familiar with the Protestant culture there.
    Well done.

    I have 2 favorite saints. Saint Dismas, and Saint Mary of Egypt. Saint Dismas, because by his being forgiven as he died on the cross next to Jesus, we are shown that it is never too late to be forgiven. Saint May of Egypt, because she enjoyed living a life of sexual sin and was not a true believer. Being faced with not being able to enter the church in Jerusalem, she fell down in front of the icon of Mary the mother of God and begged for forgiveness. She then repented and went into the desert to live like John the Baptist for the remainder of her life. These are not people that lived a life of worship from childhood, they were sinners that repented. They are people that are easier for us to identify ourselves in. Of course, Jesus was perfect, he is God. We need his forgiveness, and ordinary people became saints to show us that we don't need to be consumed by our sins.

      Those are two obscure but beautiful saints! So true. It’s good to have people who are obviously flawed as examples because it gives us hope for ourselves that God can use us as well! They are much easier to relate to saints who seemed to never have sinned in their life. Some of my favorites are Maximilian Kolbe, Bl Miguel Pro, and Catherine of Siena. Thank you for watching!

    Why would we pray to a “intercessor” when instead we could pray directly to God? When we become saved, we develop personal relationships with him through reading the Bible and understanding his character.
    I think it is ok to want to emulate the apostles, they had amazing devotion to the Lord; but praying to them is pretty sketch. I think prayer is a form of worship.
    I also want to point out that Mary spends the whole Magnificat praising God. The focus is on him, not her. She says that generations will call her blessed because “He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name.”
    I’m not sure what you were talking about with 1 Corinthian 1:11 because that’s not what it says at all. In that passage, the Corinthian Christians are divided based on who had baptized them. Despite that, your point on imitating Paul is not entirely, but it’s the fact that now we do have access to the full Word of God where we can imitate Jesus too!
    All in all, nice video, very informative! Thank you :)

      Okay, so that’s where things get interesting. If prayer is worship than it’s never okay to pray through saints and Our Lady, period. But if prayer is merely expressing your requests to someone in heaven, then it’s permissible yo pray through saints. In the Catholic Church, there are different kinds of prayer and not all prayer is worship. This article is very interesting and might help break it down further: www.catholic.com/magazine/online-edition/is-prayer-synonymous-with-worship.

      I’m glad you liked it! And thank you for one of the most civil, generous rebuttals I’ve ever received from a Protestant. In response to your point about the Magnificat, yes it is a prayer of praise to God, but that still doesn’t mean that Mary didn’t say that we would call her blessed and I think strengthens the argument that it is okay and even beneficial to recognize faithful followers of Christ and how they respond to God’s grace.
      St Paul says “Be imitators of me as I am of Christ.” If it was good and beneficial for the early Christian’s, it should be good and beneficial for us. Your points are good ones, and I really appreciate you having an open mind! God bless!

    God has called us to pray to Him (Matthew 6:6-7, Psalm 50:15, Exodus 34:14). Not as a suggestion or guideline but a clear directive. If we are obedient to God, then we follow the directive. There is nothing more or less to do or offer; we follow the given directive if we are obedient to God. God never directed us to saints, rather He directed us to Himself. To act differently than to fulfill the given directive as it was given is disobedience.
    When we pray to Christ, He takes our prayer directly to the Throne of Grace where we receive forgiveness, redemption and reconciliation. What benefit or purpose comes from praying to someone other than Christ? Christ hears and answers the prayer. A prayer to a saint is redundant; an unnecessary proxy who, if said saint could truly hears prayer, will not be able to fulfill the prayer, but merely pass it on, where Christ will, as the final and inevitable recipient of the prayer, respond to the prayer.
    Saints do not respond to our prayers because they do not hear prayer or know they are being prayed to. The dead are without knowledge of the events of the living realm (Ecclesiastes 9:5, Job 14:21, Isaiah 63:16). Though the prayers of the righteous are powerful and effective, no such matter is true regarding the deceased.
    Also important to note is that God does promise to hear and answer our prayers to him (Isaiah 65:24; Matthew 7:7; 1 John 5:14-15).
    Now, Jesus is our mediator (1 Timothy 2:5-6, 1 John 1:21). He is our sole and revealed intercessor (Hebrews 7:25). We have no need or use for other intercessors; not with a mediator who hears and works the divine graces in response to prayers.
    The issue regarding prayer to saints is that it's a redundant doctrine. God never directed us to pray to saints. He simply did not. Scripture neither records any Inspired Apostles praying to saints or any Inspired Apostles directing us to pray to saints.
    The doctrine of prayer to saints is, in light of Scripture, a false teaching.

      In the transfiguration of Jesus, Moses and Elijah appeared before Jesus. Both of them have long been dead before the time of Jesus. If as you say the dead have no knowledge of the events of the living realm, how come they appeared very much alive as witnessed by Peter, James and John?

      No one is praying to the saints. We ask for their intercession. Just like she stated a few times in the video. Not everything is concrete. That is why we have multiple religions. They take their own interpretations of the bible and moved on with a different religion while maintaining the same goal of bringing people to God.

    • @southernbella8503
      @southernbella8503  Месяц назад +4

      Time does not exist in heaven. You act as if prayer through saints slows the answering of our prayers. As if they take our requests, sit on them for a couple of days, then take it to Jesus, who takes it to God. Prayer through saints is as instant as praying directly to Jesus. There is no “lag time.” Christ didn’t explicitly say a lot of stuff we do as Christians, but we do them because it is common sense and supported in scripture. The Bible doesn’t have to explicitly spell something out for you to understand that it is in line with scripture and a good thing to do. And I already listed multiple places in the Bible where we are told to pray for each other and people intercede for others to Christ.

    As a Catholic, I understand some protestant ideas.
    There are differences between the official doctrines and the practices of them.
    Officially, Catholics don't pray to Mary, but ask her to pray for them. In practice, they do pray directly to her (think about novenas, the Hail Holy Queen, Memorare, etc).
    Officially, Christ is at the center. In practice, only the Mass is Christ-centred. With the exception of Mass, the other practices are based on private devotions and private revelations.
    Today, being an observant catholic means praying the rosary, practicing consecration to Mary and other saints, doing pilgrimages, wearing the miracolous medal, the brown scapular, etc.
    Even prayer groups focus so much on Mary.
    There's also religious sentimentalism and fanaticism going on, especially related to Fátima and Medjugorie.
    Catholics defend the papacy with words, but not with actions. They didn't even wait for the pope to approve Medjugorie. They went crazy about the messages and the pilgrimage.
    As a Catholic, all this is so frustrating. Anyone else with the same struggles? 😢

    • @southernbella8503
      @southernbella8503  Месяц назад +1

      I can see what you’re saying. But praying “to” a saint is just a short hand way of saying we ask for their intercession. The prayers you mentioned are hundreds of years old and the Hail Mary is 90% lifted straight from the Bible. There is nothing wrong with praying to a saint. They do nothing on their own but always with the permission and approval of Christ. Praying to and worshipping are not the same thing. I think because Catholics have such a rich tradition of sacraments, examples of holy individuals lives, and other things I agree that one can get caught up in it all, but all of these things draw one closer to Christ and aligning your life to His Will. It is not accurate that “all other practices” besides the Mass are based on private revelations. Many are, but no where near all. If these things scandalize you instead of draw you closer to Jesus, you can and probably should feel free to ignore them. But there are so many devotions within the Catholic faith that are written or done directly to Christ. Just because we have so many options of richness and beauty doesn’t mean that distract us from Christ but appeal to a wide variety of people and are ways of pointing to Him. I do agree that obsessing over an unapproved apparition is dangerous. We have Fatima, Lordes, and Guadalupe; why not focus on these. But the beautiful thing about Catholicism is these private devotions are just options and not requirements. If you don’t love them and they don’t appeal to you, you can feel free to ignore them. But many of them such as the rosary (which is almost entirely lifted from scripture) have a track record of reliability and are very powerful, so while it’s not necessary that you do them, it might also be a bit unwise to dismiss them with so many voices advocating for their effectiveness.

    • @Daniela-n7h5e
      @Daniela-n7h5e Месяц назад

      @southernbella8503 Thank you so much for your reply. I appreciate what you do. It's admirable.
      I'm not sure if those practices scandalize me, but certainly I don't feel closer to Jesus. I guess my problem is that it's better for me to focus only on Jesus. Focusing too much on other saints makes me feel overwhelmed and stressed out.
      I feel much closer to God when I read the Bible and spend time meditating on His Word. There are very eye-opening scriptures which I'd love to discuss with other believers. Instead of reciting ready-made prayers, I'd love it if in church there were more opportunities to spend more time in the Word with other believers and let the Holy Spirit guide our prayers too. Nothing against ready-made prayers. I'm currently praying Saint Andrew novena. It's just not what works best for me.
      I think there's a general crisis going on that affects the whole Christian world. In Protestantism, there are concerning phenomena like the obsession with spiritual gifts (languages), forced and false miracles, the prosperity gospel, the offences to Mary, etc. In Catholicism there can be obsessions with the saints, Mary, certain devotions, and lack of correction and clarity. We're facing a real crisis.

      A heavenly angel of God told the Apostle John to "Get up. Worship God."
      If this perfect angel saw it as erroneous to bow before him, how much more those who were less perfect (being humans at one time) should declare the same?

    This was a great video, I want to convert to catholicism but I still have questions about saintly Intercession, like why should we even do it? I understand why it is not wrong, but what reason do we have to pray and ask intercession from saints? When you mentioned Roman's 8:27 it talks about the holy spirit, not the saints, I really want to be a catholic and I'm almost fully convinced it is the church of christ, but this question is really bothering me.

    • @southernbella8503
      @southernbella8503  24 дня назад

      That’s a great question, and I think this is something that shouldn’t prevent you from converting. It’s essentially optional, and the Church doesn’t require you to do it. But the saints see God face to face and have a very special relationship with Him since they already ran their race and showed by their life that they love Him and aligned their will to His. I like to think of it this way: what is more powerful: one persons prayers or two? Why wouldn’t you want more people praying to God for you? It’s like how you ask people on earth to pray for you. What’s the point of asking people to pray for you if you can just pray to God yourself? Because prayer is powerful and the more prayers the better! It’s just like getting more people on your case and more people bringing your prayers to God. As Christians, our role on earth is to bring as many people to heaven with us as possible, and that job doesn’t suddenly end when we die. The saints are still working with God to try and bring us to heaven. Just how God worked miracles through the saints when they were on earth, he continues to work miracles through their intercession in heaven. I think if you realize that Christian’s are still part of the church on earth, in purgatory, and in heaven it might make you feel more comfortable with asking for their intercession. I hope this helps!

    • @Kristalman831

      @@southernbella8503 thank you for responding, I appreciate it but I got to a different conclusion, but first I'd want to tell you something, although the points you made sound nice, I am sorry to say but they don't make sense at all, when you said "the more prayers the better" what did you meant by that, it's not like we can "stack" prayers, and it's not like if we pray with more people our request would have a higher chance to be granted, God knows and fully hears each and every prayer we do, so I got to this conclusion:
      the reason we practice saintly intercession is not to "buff" our prayers, but because of the simple reason that it glorifies God, at the book of James we are told to pray for one another (James 5:16) and from what I understand the reason we are recommended to do this is because it unites us in prayer life, or in other words, it makes our way of worshipping God a social activity, and well... because the whole point of saintly intercession is to ask saints to pray for us, I believe that although at its basis saintly intercession could be seen as pointless (which is not), I believe that it glorifies God because as I said, it unites us in prayer life, and by that it could not only benefit our spiritual life, but it probably makes God even more proud of us, and by that could grant us more than just spiritual gifts.

      @southernbella8503  Месяц назад +1

      Haha, yes. When I first started my RUclips channel, I just wanted to do it for fun and at the time I enjoyed watching makeup and lifestyle videos. Now that I’m a little bit older, I wanted to come back to RUclips but do something more meaningful and something that I would not get bored of and am passionate about, which so happens to be my faith. So I’ve changed my niche and I’m now doing more Catholic videos since that is more of what I enjoy and find, truly meaningful and something I will never get tired of taking about. Good question! I’m glad you’re enjoying my videos!

    I dont worship saints. I just get on my knees in front of their statues and pray to them, and light candles befor their images. I dont worship them.

    • @southernbella8503
      @southernbella8503  23 часа назад

      Exactly. Intention matters. We don’t pray “to the statues.” They are reminders of the real person like pictures are of our past family members. And candles have many uses, not just for worship. That’s why it’s important to take the time to learn and study the early church to avoid making uninformed statements or rash judgments.

    I used to do certain rituals that the Catholics do when I was younger I say rituals because that’s what they are, but I stopped because it never felt right doing the cross doing other things trying to pray to the Virgin Mary statue and ask her to go for help or on our behalf. No, that’s Jesus you ask Jesus you don’t go to a priest in a booth you don’t do any of that. We use questions Catholic Baptist so forth and so on all have done things to wear, we someway somehow start worshiping false signs, and if we don’t get called out on it and take constructive, holy criticism, we will never change and if you take it to heart and get all mad about it, you’re letting the devil affect youlearn from it become better learn to discern evil from good as God only God, cause Jesus says God as well to help you not man man cannot help you

      I’m sorry to hear that. I think it’s because you didn’t understand the history, meaning , and purpose behind these “rituals.” We don’t pray to a statue, but to the person it represents. Yes, of course pray to Jesus! But there is nothing wrong with asking His Mother to pray for you as well. Please don’t be afraid to ask Mary for help. She is on your side and wants whatever her Son wants. Anyone can go astray if not adequately taught, but that doesn’t mean the proper use of things is also wrong. Just because you hold the wrong end of a hammer doesn’t mean the hammer is useless, it’s just that you are using the tool improperly. That’s why catechesis is SO important! I’ll be praying for you!

      It's really unfortunate that you don't understand the logic behind Catholic teaching. You are missing out on so much joy in Christ!

    Sorry but you didn’t use scripture to explain why it was okay to pray to dead people. There are no examples in the bible showing this.😢

      Matthew 22:32 “And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God, ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living.” What is heaven for if not for the living souls of the saints? Who is in heaven then if they are all “dead”?

    • @JHH1027
      @JHH1027 Месяц назад +6

      Truth! As a Catholic I say you are correct! We don’t pray to dead anyone. We believe that the saints are alive in heaven, more alive than we are. They are the cloud of witnesses referencesld in the book of Hebrews. Catholics are NOT to pray to dead people. We do ask the intercession of those perfected by Christ in holiness. James tells us that the prayer of a righteous man is very effective. Who more righteous than those in heaven, with the Lord, completely detached from sin?

      in Psalm 103 we pray, "Bless the Lord, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, hearkening to the voice of his word! Bless the Lord, all his hosts, his ministers that do his will!" (Ps. 103:20-21). And in the opening verses of Psalms 148 we pray, "Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise him in the heights! Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his host!"
      Not only do those in heaven pray with us, they also pray for us. In the book of Revelation, John sees that "the twenty-four elders [the leaders of the people of God in heaven] fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and with golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints" (Rev. 5:8). Thus the saints in heaven offer to God the prayers of the saints on earth.
      Angels do the same thing: "[An] angel came and stood at the altar [in heaven] with a golden censer; and he was given much incense to mingle with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar before the throne; and the smoke of the incense rose with the prayers of the saints from the hand of the angel before God" (Rev. 8:3-4).
      Jesus himself warned us not to offend small children, because their guardian angels have guaranteed intercessory access to the Father: "See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven" (Matt. 18:10).
      Because he is the only God-man and the Mediator of the New Covenant, Jesus is the only mediator between man and God (1 Tim. 2:5), but this in no way means we cannot or should not ask our fellow Christians to pray with us and for us (1 Tim. 2:1-4). In particular, we should ask the intercession of those Christians in heaven, who have already had their sanctification completed, for "[t]he prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects" (Jas. 5:16).
      If you want more, i will quote from church Fathers...
      Have a nice day ❤❤❤

      @@frankc-k3q You are certainly welcome to believe and profess whatever you want to believe, there are plenty of differing beliefs in the world today based on the Bible, just pick one. But to glean this from the historically decidedly Catholic Trinitarian book is just plain frivolous…
      History shows us that Jesus didn't leave us a bible, - the apostles didn't tell us which books belong in the bible, - the church fathers never agreed on the 27 books, and ONLY the 27 books of the NT through the 4th century, - not only did they not agree but their individual lists of would-be NT canons were GROWING during this time.
      Therefore, if it wasn't the Catholic/Orthodox church, guided by the Holy Spirit, that compiled the 27 books of the NT in the 4th century, and preserved these scriptures by laboriously hand copying them over and over throughout the centuries before the invention of the printing press, the “rule of faith” for many, please tell us who did? And if this church no longer exists today, what good is the text which came forth from her if she couldn't sustain herself?
      Peace!!!
