Thank you for sharing their story! I have known about these two since I was a child. "Ketherine" was my mother's favorite book. On a trip to England when I was 11, I didn't know why my mother was so excited when our car stopped by Kenilworth castle ruins. She had me read the book shortly afterwards, and I visited the birth place of John of G. in Ghent, Belgium about 10 years ago....relishing in their history. So---what a surprise and joy it was when I discovered a year ago that John and Katherine are my great-grandparents (16 generations back) through their son John Beaufort. I'm having soooo much fun with this!

Enjoyed this episode so much that I subscribed. Katherine Swynford has been a favorite of mine since I read Katherine by Anya Seton as a child.

Actually knights were part of the nobility in many cases. Also there is much more to Catherine Swinford when you delve into who her father's family were. Not to the extent of course that John of Gaunt would have been but far better than mentioned here.
Still well told for the most part.
I think we are still learning more of who these people were and their parts in world history.

Arguably Henry VII was not in line to the throne his wife Elizabeth of York was the princes in the tower sister. The claim Henry VII to the throne was weak via blood however his army won the battle of bosworth and therefore he arguably took the throne by force.
Together with his wife who was next in line via blood lines ,dispite being female they did produce children that were true heirs to the throne.
If you have the view that Henry VII didn't deserve the throne Henry VIII definitely did and therefore so did his children.

@harrietyounger6118 Yeah, I don't tend to think people can sign away their descendants' rights, just an interesting event that goes into the calculation.

@@lltqp I don't think it is clear and more of a matter of opinions. George VI was the next in line . George I wasn't, James I had a son who at the time should have next in line when we had the glorious revolution.
