It's going to be fun to watch Dan try to spin this (without citing sources, of course). That's if he even acknowledges it.

I am new to the BTK world so if I am completely off base please disregard. RE Brushy reading or not reading... My grandmother was in relatively good health in her 90's and lived till around 100 (we never knew her exact age). She could read and write all her life and had a beautiful swirly script handwriting but by the time she was in her 90's; although she could see to walk around etc. she could no longer see well enough to read and write.

I am in my 60's and have a degree on chemistry - I assure you I can read and write.

I know your point is that Morrison said Brushy couldn't read, and Dan said he could read. The part you skipped over is the one I'm most interested in. Could BTK read and write. If you look at the letters to Gov. Wallace, I never believed that BTK could have written those. The Beautiful penmanship from a young man with a very limited education. Also it looks to me like a womans penmanship to me. I wish there was more research into this area, as I am not an expert.

There is little doubt that Billy wrote those letters. There are too many aspects that all match up in regards to the writing style. Plus you forget that he wrote some of those letters in San Patricio, the Bill of Sale in Texas and then several more letters to Wallace in Santa Fe. Plus he wrote one to Wallace in December of 1881, before he was captured. We have at least four different locations that the letters came from. For what you’re saying to be true, the same person wound have has to have traveled with Billy to all four locations and wrote the letters for him. We know for a fact that he wrote the Bill of Sale because Dr. Hoyt mentions it in his book. Plus, non of the people that were with Billy in Tascosa Texas were with him in the Santa Fe jail. Nobody but Billy could have written those letters. Hopefully I explained that well enough. Thanks for watching!!!

    "Go home, Dan." 🤣
To be fair, I'm working under the assumption that Dan probably dumped all his money, hopes and Hollywood dreams into this project and desperately wants it to be true. One of the earliest things I learned in life is that wanting something to be true, and it actually being true, are two wholly different creatures. Dan needs to face the fact that he bet on the wrong horse and he needs to cut his losses.
As far as popularity goes I've never even heard of this man until he created conflict among your peers. There may have been some passing interest from Emilio Estevez -- who might very well go on with another movie -- but not all publicity is good publicity anymore. Dan's antics will most likely get his role in the film dropped, with some title screen disclaimer of fictional accounts from the production company. Welcome to Obscurity, Dan. Hope you didn't piss on anyone before you got here. The book will wind up as the second-worst biography on Billy the Kid.
As I'm new to DBD (but not to CB, TCK, BtB, etc) I have a newbie question: Has Dan ever been out to New Mexico, or done any actual groundwork past Texas? And if so, does *anyone* out that way admit to ever speaking to the man? I'd like to know if he did any of his own investigative work or if he just bought a box of junk.

An elderly friend and believer of Brushy Bill as Billy the Kid, Mrs. Everhart ( a cousin of Jessie James) in a taped video interview by Mr. Morrison after 6 yrs of research as he was hired by Mrs. Everhart to do, she said Billy's wife wrote all of the correspondence to her from Billy except one and his daughter wrote it because Billy could not read or write.

I did consider the fact that I have an aunt who is 85 years old and can no longer read due to eyesight issues and wondered if that couldn’t be true for Brushy however I do believe Morrison asserted that his eyesight was fine. Also this idea that He could read but has just chosen not to for the last 30 years does not hold water. Who does that?

From my understanding he could read and write, but he was not the most literate man. He was limited. According to Brushy's own family he left school early, and for a while the censuses would say he was illiterate but only in later life did it say he could.
He did write letters to Ola Everhard and others. But I don't think he was capable of reading anything beyond a certain level of literacy.
I remember when I was in school doing mass media it and it was said to us that newspapers were purposely written in 3rd to 4th grade reading comprehension because there was entire generations of people who did not have more than an elementary education.
So I think the literacy/penmanship argument is decent at best. And considering Brushy did die about a month after the fact, etc I think he was mentally declining and probably couldn't understand what was being said to him or what he was reading at times. I had a great uncle who mentally declined rapidly in the months prior to his death, and it was pretty scary because he always drove everywhere in his 80s only to ask us how to get to his brothers house and we had to drive part of the way in order for him to know which direction to go.
Jesus Christ Almighty God bless you all
