    Being old, I've seen every northeast U.S. concert they've done since the days of the Fillmore East, Central Park and their 1977 (original) final show at the Capitol Theatre. The best band ever! Whitehorn is great, Pegg is their best bass player and though we all miss B.J. (best rock drummer ever) this guy came along nicely after an initially rough start. About The Commander, he's a genius with the best voice ever. Last saw them in NYC 4 years ago and it was fantastic! Long live Procol!

    Matthew always sounds different from most organists, as he doesn't use the Hammond B-3, but a Hammond M-102, which has a much different sound. Also, I think Geoff Whitehorn has become the greatest PH guitarist, as he adds tasteful guitar parts that other PH guitarists sat out on, but he never overplays. He's courageous in his use of the guitar on keyboard-dominated songs.

      SO, you actually think that Geoff W having listened to the REAL Procol Harum, strumming along here & there 30-plus years later, makes him a better guitarist for the band Procol Harum, than Robin Trower creating the music with the ACTUAL BAND???!!?!??

    The drummer is no B.J. Wilson and that's evident on "Nothing But the Truth." He's a good, adequate drummer but, it goes to show the difference between a good performance drummer and a creatively insane and inventive genius on the skins. That's what BJ Wilson was -- just listen to the original recording and you will hear it. "Nothing But the Truth," was a percussive masterpiece on the lp "Exotic Birds and Fruit." On "Grand Hotel" the drummer inserts rolls in inappropriate places. It's a classical piece, not a military march. Just sounds like too many rolls. He does redeem himself on "Salty Dog." This live version of "Grand Hotel" sounds way too strained. Lead guitarist (Geoff Whitehorn) still sounds out of place compared to Mick Grabham's solo on the original that soared with brilliance. Whitehorn has since come a long way since 2001. On the new lp "Novum" he is quite excellent.

    • @Chazthefurr
      @Chazthefurr 7 лет назад +3

      Be fair to Mark John. BJ didn't always hit the right spots in live perfomance. Agree his Grand Hotel album was faultless in the studio. Hard for all the succeedig musicians to faithfully reproduce the master recordings. Glad you mentioned Novum which allows the current band to lay down their master versions (brilliantly)
