    Everyone can talk about Nash's lack of (admitted) wrestling ability or Scott's issues and unprofessionalism but their arrival in WCW and the formation and first year of the nWo is THE best wrestling angle of all time. Anyone who says otherwise didn't experience it as it happened and any wrestler who says it isn't is probably jealous. It went to absolute, unwatchable shit but May '96 to December '97 in WCW is still untouchable....and with the state the business is in, that's never going to change.

    • @jmi84
      @jmi84 3 года назад +48

      I don’t agree with Kevin here. At that time he had no right in calling a finish for a Bret Hart match. Especially since it would have made Bret seem so weak as the champion. How would it have looked for Bret to have been beat in two paper views in a row? Makes no sense. Bret was the champion. Imagine seeing two paper views in a row where hulk hogan would have been beat in both of them like how he wanted Bret to have been beat? Come on. It’s not an ego thing and I know Bret had an ego just like many other wrestlers back then but in this case I agree with Bret. Now if Vince would have recommended that finish then it’s a different story.

      @@jmi84 Bret wasn’t getting beat because if he was then him and Shawn weren’t going to get the ppv, which was already planned. It was for it to look like Kevin got cheated out of the title because he was about to win but Taker got him. So revenge that would make their storyline better.

      Thats why it was called the Kliq. I see your point because everyplace I ever worked had their own dick cliques. A group of people who somehow managed to shove their work on everyone else less than a decade in. The same people who constantly snitch on everyone else ( yet call the police if you tell them to meet them in a field across the street after they snitched on you & dicked you up on the job) yet somehow have deluded themselves into believing they should be paid more for doing less. I had the satisfaction of seeing regional management come in & reassign every one of the dick clique to either different departments & shifts. 2 quit in protest. good riddance.

Nash had so many phantom injuries in WCW that lazy asshole never worked a year straight. Hall was a great worker but he was weak minded and couldn’t control himself so was a liability because he could only be pushed so far. So -- funny and true story: I was there the night the cops got really called on Monday Nitro; I was working for WDW resort at the (then) MGM Studios theme park. I was a ride host on 'Inside the Magic' -- the mini special effects tour; I walked folks through the ride, did a little gimmick at the beginning and end, and Bob's your dad's brother.
    But -- that summer, and prior to that -- WCW had been shooting wrestling there, and if you wanted a BIG bump in your paycheck and overtime -- and a backstage look at production being shot on site -- you could sign up to work park security and semi-PA for the producers/AD and whoever else asked you to do stuff.
    So I worked about half a dozen WCW Worldwides, and the inserts they'd shoot for Nitro and Saturday Night as security (though Turner guys were always there - I guess it was just a requirement of Disney to have WDW people there as well.)
    I also got to work the couple of Nitros they did out in the front patio/bus loading area. It was a blast - and wrestling was peaking again because of Hogan turning. Every night, it was easy to get a crowd for the Nitros - but the Worldwide crowds were just -- unbearable. Mick Foley talks about it in his book -- check that out. But basically it was 'whoever wants to see a show!' -- not necessarily 'who wants to see a WRESTLING show'.
    No merch was sold - or allowed to be sold - on Disney property; so any signs/merch at Worldwide in those years would be handed out to tourists as part of the 'preshow get 'em excited' deal, and so you'd have folks waving Four Horsemen foam four-fingered things, sitting across from floppy 'Hacksaw Duggan' two by fours -- and those wack white t-shirts with the purple WCW logo on them -- and occasionally (I had every single 'special' shirt they gave out) a STING or Ric Flair shirt or -- and this was killer -- a Hulkamania shirt.
    This was like the third or fourth Nitro I think? They have an opening match - and the broadcast has the Horsemen fighting Luger - when Jimmy Hart of the Dungeon of Doom runs out and begs the Horsemen for help. Cut to backstage, where Nash and Hall appear to have destroyed Arn Anderson and Scotty Riggs with bats, and then throw Rey into the trailer like a dart.
    I'm IN THE CROWD at that point, sneaking in to catch the show, trying not to be seen on camera because we weren't supposed to get tickets for these events ESPECIALLY given the lack of seating for tourists who WANTED to be there. Then, I hear my buddy tell me to get backstage - and I run back there; the 'attack' took place in a side street for food deliveries where the production vehicles and satellite trucks were set up next to Tower of Terror. My buddy Chris and John were on the radios saying that Orange County Sheriff's had been in contact with Reedy Creek (the Disney Police -- no lie -- Disney has a Secret Police Force) about a gang fight on the premises, and were asserting jurisdiction for that level of crime.
    I got to hear the frantic 'It's just a show! Turn on the TV!' type argument over the walkies we had; I throw on my godawful yellow costume shirt for 'security' -- (Production was around the corner from the primary locker/cleaning and central Disney offices as well) -- and I caught the aftermath of what was going on. Two ambulances from ORMC got sent, but Reedy Creek already took the 'victims' to the 'hospital'. Cops show up, warily, and meanwhile -- NOTHING is happening out in the ring -- just chants of 'BULLSHIT' and 'BORING' -- the folks unaware they were missing history.
    Checking it out on the Network, I'm visible once or twice in the crowd, but I'm leaving the area as Chris is telling me to come backstage. Always been a fan of Hall and Nash -- basically because for ONE NIGHT -- Wrestling was real to EVERYBODY, dammit. :D

      Neeta Song there's video where they call Bret the "400 thousand dollar champion." Where both Hall and Nash both claim that Bret was happy making only 400k per year as long as he won. Well the problem with that bullshit story is it's very well documented that Bret was the very first Superstar in the WWE (WWF at the time.) to be signed to a million dollar contract. In fact because of that contract and Vince not being able to pay it is what eventually would lead to the events surrounding the Montreal Screwjob.

    • @blindterrytucci2752
      @blindterrytucci2752 7 лет назад +4

      Bret didn't sign the 20 year, million dollar contract until late 1996 after being gone for at least half a year and 100% after Hall and Nash were both already gone. So, it's not bullshit. Even if he was making more than 400k from late '92-early '96, it sure as hell wasn't a million.

    • @blindterrytucci2752
      @blindterrytucci2752 7 лет назад +9

      Everybody involved has changed the story multiple times. It's the main reasons other wrestlers say it's a work. If you look at Bret's history...his father, being involved in the business all his life, and how he takes the business more serious than ANYONE...for him to go against the number one rule of "Do what you're told, when you're told." doesn't make any sense. Plus, Vince's insistence on making sure Bret was allowed to attack him. When you combine the whole story it really does start to come off as a work. It was the end of a year long angle of Bret accusing Vince of always screwing him (they let him say "goddamn" and "bullshit" on Raw in 1997 while "shooting" on him, ffs)...then turning heel...and starting to publicly trash Shawn and Vince...Vince at one point encourages Bret to go to WCW because of the money but then "screws" him...the "Bret Screwed Bret" interview where he made sure you could see his black eye a week later...the perfectly timed "Wrestling With Shadows" doc, etc...It probably seems impossible to be a work to some until you remember what they do for a living. They are masters at making people believe something that isn't real IS real.

And tbh the best thing he couldve done is gone to wcw imo he wasnt that great as champ and his matches where boring except for his matches with Bret & hbk or the times he was in a royal rumble he could pull off that monster tossing everybody out pretty good but I always thought Scott > Kevin sucks he had those demons I could see him as champ.

    • @leomdk939

      I think the point was that Nash felt he should stick Bret with a powerbomb before Taker grabbed him, so that it was obvious that Diesel was going to win the match and Taker cost him the title. (And he's right.) The way they ended up doing it, you could argue that Taker just spoiled the match and you didn't know who was going to win the Bret/Diesel match anyway. Not a huge Nash fan, but he's 100% right here. If this story is accurate, Bret needed to chill out and let them tell the story better.

    Early in his WWE tenure as "Big Daddy Cool" Diesel, Nash, a wrestler of average skills at best, befriended Shawn Michaels who had Vince McMahon's ear at the time backstage.
    Later in WCW, he was closely aligned with Hogan and Bischoff and somehow managed to parlay those relationships into the job as a booker. Later, when he went to TNA, he befriended Jeff Jarrett who's father owned the promotion.
    Nash's problem wasn't that he was a good networker, but rather that he used his backstage stroke to not only push his own career but also to hold down wrestlers who he felt were not at his level (and ironically almost all of the guys in question from Chris Jericho, to Bret Hart, to A.J. Styles were vastly superior wrestlers to Nash).
    For those who believe that the ability to act cool and cut a good promo is what makes a wrestler truly great Nash, might have a case.
    However, he was a pitiful wrestler, and even where he was strong (charisma and mic skills) he was still always overshadowed by the likes of HBK, Triple H, Scott Hall, and Hogan

      Imo, a good wrestling show has a balanced card. I don't wanna see high flyers every match, nor do I wanna see big guys every match 🤷
      Nash and Hall brought something to the table that most guys couldn't: charisma. People were cheering for Kofi Vs Bryan, and that shit was the most boring main event I have ever layed eyes on. It only went down so well because the fans were *invested* in the storyline. @Douglas Taggart Still, in my opinion there would always have been an "if" that people would wonder. If Diesel did the Power Bomb maybe Bret would of gotten out of it or kicked out. That's how I would've pitched it.. but he really wasn't being a better team player

    Nash is the Best Shoot interview... but he tripped himself up on this one... You left cause of Brett... But then invited him to come to the place you left him to go to? Did you leave cause Brett? Or cause the money and Brett was crutch you used to do what you already wanted to do? 🤔

      Then we would of not had the NWO change over and the attitude area and most wrestlers were still not on contract getting decent deals. They may of left for themselves but it forced the WWE to actually pay their people and take some accountability. Like it or hate it they changed wrestling.

    Rest In Peace Scott Hall. Greatest kilq member. Not even close. My favorite member of them. Thank you so much for everything. Kevin, stop lying. You left wwf for the money and less days. Nothing wrong with that. The greatest of all time Bret Hart had nothing to do with that. He gave you your greatest matches ever. Stop just be thankful for what Bret did for you. Unlike your boy er I mean Vince's boy toy

  • @azapro911

    Mark Calaway is THE ultimate company man and even he thought Bret was being incredibly selfish, so it's unfair to blame Nash in this case. Hart was one of those wrestlers who could be just as self-absorbed as any Kliq member, but tried to hide it behind a veneer of 'tradition' and 'respect for the business'. Treating kayfabe ring results as legitimate wins and losses is about as pretentious as it gets.

    • @FilipoSooaUlufale
      @FilipoSooaUlufale 6 лет назад

      Agreed. Bret is just as manipulative and pouty as The Kliq, only the Kliq dudes admit their own wrongdoings while Bret points fingers at people for his own faults. Guys like Nash and Hall will always have a future in the WWE as legends while Bret fades into irrelevance just like Scott Steiner, Ultimate Warrior, Miss Elizabeth, Lex Luger and Ron Simmons are now.

    • @raulramirez9657
      @raulramirez9657 2 года назад +1

      @@FilipoSooaUlufale Bret Hart is respected by the majority of the wrestling business while Nash has all ways been called out for what he was: a backstabbing manipulative asshole who buried others to get ahead. Bret has a legit point of not liking how he was booked in those PPVs before Mania 12, he was the champ and the build was supposed to make him and HBK look strong coming into their Ironman match, not look like a total chump. Sure Nash helped create the NWO angle which is historic but don’t forget, Bret was the one who put Austin over, who would help create the Attitude era, so this talk about Bret “fading out” like those other names you mentioned is beyond idiotic.

  • @rebal180

    This is why no one likes Nash. Because during his whole career Bret tried to get ahead and at every turn someone else wanted to become a star at his expense regardless of how it made him look. When Bret has his own program and someone is trying to derail his momentum before he does it then it is about him.
