Prince was a certified musical genius! Sure, everyone raves about his guitar playing, and rightly so, but his first instrument was the piano. Because of this he often implemented a lot of unique chords. On his first couple of records he played ALL of the instruments in the studio. 🔥 I always felt that the album, Around the World in a Day was a musician's piece.
One of MANY great songs features him on piano called, How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore.
For a heavy Blues number hit up, 5 Women.
A wild experimental jam can be found in, The Ballad of Dorothy Parker.

I would not mind if Purple Rain got nipped right here in the bud and Skullz pivoted to Sign ☮the Times. Dorothy Parker, Starfish & Coffee... And talk about a concert film! Housequake alone.

Prince played every instrument and it was a sea of poon in Cincinnati that night in 1984. I was 17 and went with two hot chicks. That was my first 3-some. Best night EVER!

Aw snap, I was thinking about this! Prince is in my Top 5 ring of GOATs. (Wore a purple tux to my prom... no biggie 😄) I would have hit you with "1999." Much deeper and experimental double LP. Harder grooves, deeper melodies, devastating beats. And the lyrical content is next level, controversial. It was a warning shot to the world. Enjoy this album, but don't forget to go back at least one more 👍🏽💜

You really should check out his performance at the Superbowl. It is easily the best superbowl halftime show ever. Purple Rain, in the rain...it's amazing. It's all live (no lip-sync or tracks) and he absolutely shreds on the guitar. It's a must see, reaction or not. There's a story that a Rolling Stone reported once asked Eric Clapton what it was like to be the greatest living guitar player, and he said "I don't know, ask Prince"

I know the lyrics are pretty self-explanatory, but I started following after watching your Tool Journey, so I was hoping you would at least do a read-through of the lyrics. But either way, I would love to see more Prince.
I remember the morning that he passed away. I was working overnight at the time, and was making my drive home, flipping through the local radio stations. I heard a Prince song over the radio, so I did what you're supposed to do whenever you hear Prince on the radio. I turned it up and had a nice little sing-along. Really brought me down when the DJ came on and announced that he had passed away earlier that morning.
It doesn't matter what kind of music you're typically into. Prince was one of those artists that most anyone can vibe with. My nephew, who was maybe 13 or 14 at the time, had already taken a liking to Prince. Me and him enjoyed the hell out of annoying my niece with our full blast sing alongs to purple rain anytime it came over the radio in the following months.

Yup, legend indeed! I first heard this album when I was almost 6 - my 19 year old sister brought home the cassette and I distinctly remember hearing the opening organ notes of this song! Wasn't long after that I was hooked on the entire album - especially When Doves Cry & the title track, Purple Rain. 1984 is often considered one of the best years for music releases (seriously, check what came out that year), and this album certainly helped to bolster that opinion! RIP Prince, thanks for sharing your musical talent!!

I LOVE your commentary…though I find it *impossible* to believe you had never heard “Let’s Go Crazy” before doing this video, as this is one of those songs “you’d expect” everybody’s heard MANY times over the past 40 years. 😃💯 Perhaps you’d heard it before, but didn’t know it was Prince?
But yessir, there always was a deeper meaning to Prince’s lyrics, and you picked up on it…though you only scratched the surface! 😁 The song starts off kind of churchy, which foreshadows the spiritual nature of the lyrics. When he speaks of an afterlife in which you can always see the sun day or night, he’s speaking of heaven. And when he says “R we gonna let ‘de elevator’ bring us down?” - he’s speaking of Satan (“de elevator” ⬇️). As you study Prince, you’ll discover how slick he was at expressing his spirituality in his music.
And I agree with you 1000% about today’s pop music being dumbed down. It’s almost unbearable.
Thanks for expressing your appreciation of this genius. I look forward to more of your videos. 👍🏼

As impressive as this album is, when you look into it , he wrote, produced and performed nearly all of it. That's him playing the bass, the keyboards, the accompany guitars. Only a select few artists had the confidence of a record label to do it all themselves.
