  • Justin Houston, Living Historian, demonstrates how to tap maple trees at George Rogers Clark Park in Springfield, Ohio. He also talks about the history behind this practice. The woodpeckers he talks about in the video are Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, one of several species we have in the state.

    Fantastic video! I never knew the process. I did know that GRCP taps maples for syrup, and if I ever see that a gallon jug has fallen I carefully put it back in place. I'm excited that there is more than enough this year, and tomorrow I am planning to take a tiny cup and pour myself a teaspoon of it just to taste it! Thank you GRCP, you guys Rock!
