  • Slow death and then repair of our 2011 Panasonic Viera 55 inch Plasma TV (TC-P55VT30). Our tv started having image quality problems that were originally confined to the top half of the screen, then the problem started showing up on the bottom half as well. I researched the symptoms on the internet and figured it wasn't going to be long before it died altogether. My son turned on the TV one morning, heard a loud pop after which it wouldn't turn on.
    I had spent lots of time on on user boards reading posts that described the same problem as what happened to us. Now by repairs I am talking about taking the back of the TV off, removing three boards, sending them out for repair (website I used is in video) followed by putting it back together again. Complicated yes, but we aren't talking about measuring voltages or soldering, etc... just a bunch of screws a few connectors and ten finicky ribbon cables. The video is general since I made it after I had put the TV back together again. If you search enough before hand you will find all you need to know regarding the details of ribbon cables, etc. The boards on the far left come off first followed by the larger board. The TV has to come off the stand to get the back off but you can hang it back on the stand while you wait for your boards to come back to you...
    Don't try to adjust the ribbon cables or anything else with the power on as it will definitely end badly.

    Great job on this video. I'm looking at buying one of these second hand and this video was great information for pointing out the issue. You really did a lot of research on the issue and provided a link to the place you sent your boards to get repaired. You rock it, dude. Happy holidays to you and yours.

      Michael Peterson mine is still going strong so it was totally worth the repair, the company that I used however looks like it closed its doors.

    Thanks to your video, I was able to repair my tv which is the exact model and symptoms. I laid the tv down on the carpet with no problem to take the back off. I sent the three boards to pts electronics and they found no fault with the two buffer boards and repaired the sc board for around $204. The oversize box I got at the post office and three day shipping from the west coast was expensive $53. Hint on removing ribbon cable jiggle the two sides with your two pinkies back and forth, up and down and slight tug rearward. Take notes and place screws from each board in individual envelope. Don't get discouraged. Note the position of the ribbon cables as best you can so you can get it back in the correct position. And if you get a bunch of lines 1" high follow line across screen to the misaligned ribbon cable (thanks pts they answer their calls and know their stuff. Unplug tv when removing ribbon cables to reposition.

      That is great, I am glad that you were able to fix your TV, mine is still working great. Nice tips as well. I was kind of freaking out when I was replacing the ribbon cables since it took me awhile to get the aligned correctly.

    @sherrychen6463 for me it was around 200 dollars, but there isn't a for sure way to know until they check your board. There is a price list on their website. My tv is still working great after the repair.

    I couldn't get the HDMI to work on one of these with either port. The laptop recognized the name of the TV but no image would show on either 4:4:4 or 4:2:2 mode.
    Same results with an HDMI DVD player.
    RCA component was fine though.

    Hi. I have the 42" version of this here in Ireland..the TXP42VT30, I have a different problem than yours. Im getting some loud buzzing noise coming near the 1st cooling fan, which gets louder with bright images.
    I just wanted to ask you..did you find it easy to open the back panel? did you have to remove the pedastol.?
    The reason Im asking is, your video shows your tv on the pedastol in the upright normal position. I just dont like the idea of laying my plasma down flat.
    Thanks Rob.

      Sorry for not answering. I had to take the TV off of the stand. I laid it down on my couch in order to take off the back panel. It wouldn't have been possible to take the back off with it still on the stand. Once I had the boards out I put it back on the stand so it wouldn't be in the way. I left the back panel off until the boards arrived and you can put the boards in with the TV on the stand, at least with my stand. Good luck, hope it worked out for you. The buzzing noise is something that I remember reading about, some of the screws would loosen up over time and then start arcing which is the buzzing sound (at least that is what I remember reading).

      Omorika Omorika you’re problem is most likely some of the screws have become loose on the SU boards and causing those noise problems that was a issue with many Panasonic models if not changed the will cause the board are boards to fail

    • @hbmetalexpert
      @hbmetalexpert  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Rodney
      Yes, the TV has to be taken off of the stand in order to open it up. I took my TV off the stand, then took what was needed out of it and hung it back on the stand until the boards came back from being repaired. I then reinstalled them and hooked everything back up with the TV on the stand. Once it was working correctly I took the TV off the stand and re-installed the back panel. Good luck. My TV is still running great after the repairs, knock on wood.

    • @hbmetalexpert

      They sent an e-mail if I remember correctly telling me what the price was going to be but I don't remember a phone call. They don't tell you what was wrong or which board, they just fix it and send the boards back. The hardest part of the entire project was getting the ribbon cables back in and aligning them correctly, meaning if they don't go in perfectly then the picture is a mess. It took me quite a few trys before I was able to get it perfect.

    This is a portion of the e-mail that I received. I think that it was some type special that they were running at the time. Check their web link. I was able to replace the parts and the tv is still looking great. The repair isn't complicated but having said that my group of friends would have given up & bought new. If you are handy it is doable.
    We're able to rebuild your suite of boards for a TC-P55VT30 at the special kit price of $288.50, and complete instructions for utilizing our repair and return program are available on our website.

    No; The hard part is getting shitty results like this, after searching for a repair. As someone else had mentioned earlier, he really didn't "repair" anything. And yes; unfortunately most repair facilities are "glorified board-swappers". Is it really too much to ask, to "carefully" throw yourself into the live electrical side, with a multi-meter? Because, chances are, you probably only had one out of three bad boards. These are merely "disassembly" videos.

    • @cynthiabrooman7081
      @cynthiabrooman7081 3 года назад

      The problem is that electronics made since the mid-to-late 1990s use boards with teeny tiny surface mounted components that are soldered by robots. Surface mount soldering is another skill entirely than the old Radio Shack through-hole soldering that many of us grew up with. This is why people no longer replace individual integrated circuits, resistors, capacitors, etc. Unless you're skilled at soldering connections to a component the size of a pinhead, while working under a giant magnifying glass (and try not to drink any coffee for a few days prior so your hands won't shake)---and one bad solder joint and you ruin your whole board---then it's simply less of a headache to replace the board. Electronics companies no longer even try to repair circuit boards. It's not worth the labor costs to them; cheaper to have a robot make a whole new board. But try to remember to buy the spare parts at the time you buy your TV, and store them for later, as sooner or later they will no longer be available...
