I'd be seeking to come to the US to stay with a Catholic religious community, with a view to exploring the taking of vows. I'd be working in a voluntary capacity, engaging in prayer, and being instructed on site. I would be supported by the community whilst I'm there but not be paid. I would be with the community for up to 5 years before making life vows, although by then I'd need to be exploring perm residency options. Not sure what visa I'd need to begin with? Thank you!
You will need a U.S. sponsoring organization or church. You will also need to specify your position in the church, i.e. nun, priest, cantor, etc. Once you have a U.S. organization to sponsor your R visa, contact us to schedule a time with your sponsor/employer. 888.401.1016 or info@raylawinterntional.com

Have the religious work provide, passport, I-94s, visa stamps and other related information for us to evaluate. Sorry cannot provide more guidance based on the limited information provided. Hi, If a minister with 2+ years of experience from abroad starts a 501c3 nonprofit in the US with 2 other US citizens and if he is also on the board of directors, can he get an R1 visa to work for that same nonprofit? Thank you
Based on the simple reading of your facts, most likely not, since one would need to be a member for at least two years prior to filing. Not simply have two years of experience. However it will depend on whether the new entity is related to the organization where the minister obtained the two years of membership. Remember, it is based on membership, not experience. www.uscis.gov/forms/explore-my-options/r-1-visa-temporary-nonimmigrant-religious-workers
Can a theology degree from US university offer me a job for pastor or religious worker? How are the opportunities like? After completion of the course can we get work visas like OPT, CPT.
The B-1/B-2 should be most appropriate for just attending a conference or attending the conference as a speaker. R-1 is more for if you planned to work in the U.S. in that religious organization. Hope this helps. Where is the conference going to be held? Enjoy your trip and conference.

While waiting for the green card to arrive and since you have the work permit ! CAN YOU work a different job ? Your thought
If your GC is based on marriage to a USC, then yes. If your GC is based on an employment-based category, you will be limited until the GC is issued.

How is it extended for the additional 30 months? Is it automatic?
It is not automatic. A petition must be filed with the USCIS to extend. You can file the extension 6 month prior to expiration so file early.

One would need to show that playing a sport is a religious activity. Unlikely, but much will depend on the facts.
