They are rarely used in law enforcement any more due to being brought to a very poor state by show breeding and back yard breeders. They used to be THE police dog, and for a long time the record for cross-country man -tracking was held by a Doberman. They can still sniff, but breeders wil have to start concerning themselves with health, strong build and confidence instead of whimpy, long necked show dogs before the Doberman can be taken seriously againi. Its a shame, they sure deserve better from us!
