- Today I take a loot at one of Britain's newest trains - the TFW class 231. Are they better replacements than the class 769s and pacer trains?

The new Class 231 Diesel FLIRT are quite nice and quiet. Very nice trains. Same with the Class 756 that TfW have also ordered but are Tri-mode.
These would probably be better at replacing 175 routes (& have 197 replacing the 150). They really need to reinstate Swansea electrification for the 756 so they can run through services to Hereford &! Gloucester.
I don't think they suit intercity services, 197s are better at that! But yes full electrification was stupid to not happen!
My thought on those teenagers messing with the train, where the hell was the guard?
Yes that was quite annoying! I was younger back then too so I probably dealt with it badly. I mean that video imo isn't brilliant. I should've done a voice over etc but it is what it is!

Yeah I think that's the sound for announcements made by the guard/conductor. Personally I had never heard it before (hence I was surprised in the video) - I've never heard it on 175s either (having been on quite a few in my time)
They have the chime on the class 197s
