The units that say they heat till -15c put out very little heat at -15c. Like 50% of it's rated capacity. The units that are rated at -20 to -30c will usually perform their rated capacity at -15c. You pretty much need the best newest model specifically rated for cold climate for it to heat well at low temp and be efficient.

i just started looking at heat pumps for my house in NB Canada. I am looking at this model 12 000btu but it says only -15. dose this mean it wont work if its -20 outside ?. Could you build a insulated box around the unit to help it heat better ?

How is the Senville holding up? I was considering getting a new Aurora, but I am concerned about their longevity and durability.

Concerning operation its operating without a problem even in frigid temperatures below zero.either the fan motor or a bearing on the other side is making noise on the indoor unit but it's still operating not seizing up just a little noisy and they have all spare parts I just haven't gotten to you putting in a new bearing but still that's annoying that pay unit with go bad so fast but I think it's just this one because in general I have not heard complaints from other people that have these brand units installed. my general suggestion would be for you to spend an extra $150 and buy a LG unit of similar size which would be 20 to 40% more efficient in cold temperatures. the LG unit still do a ratio of 2.4 to one kilowatt for the 12000 btu model and 2.8 to one kilowatt for the 9000 btu model of electricity used when it's 5deg. It's even higher for the top model Hyv2 series. They run close to 3kw output per kw used even when it's five degrees outside and they are running full-bore. Both of the model LG units I mentioned have a full operation capacity at 5 degrees so if you need 12000 BTUs you will get it at 5 degrees. whereas the senvill top model units are down to a ratio of only two kilowatts per one kilowatt usage which adds up if you are in a cold climate for the unit is running at mid to high capacity most of its time. Lg hsv4 or hyv2 models.

My Mitsubishi min split has been the best investment ive EVER made. it has cut my hvac cost 65% each of the past four years and cooling cost 30%. When heating oil was $3.50 a gallon , using 405 gallons for heat was a kick in the butt but now I use maybe 35 gallons for the few days if below zero temps. If you can afford Mitshubishi get one, but other brands have decent rewiews .
You will love how mini's lower the humidity in the summer.

What do the code references mean

If there is an issue that unit will give you an error code and then the reference sheet tells you what that code means
