  • NAMI CA CEO Jessica Cruz on Assembly Bills 3242 and 2112.
Cosponsored by the California Hospital Association and the National Alliance on Mental Illness, California, AB 3242 would improve response times to hospital emergency department (ED) requests for mental health evaluations by permanently allowing assessments to be done via telehealth or other telecommunications technology. That means patients in need of emergency mental health care won’t have to face unreasonably long wait times in the ED.
Assembly Bill 2112 would authorize a new Office of Suicide Prevention to lead research and prevention efforts for toxic stress and youth suicide - now the second most common cause of death among those ages 10-24.
