So glad you made this video. During one of my nickel hunts, my gf came across one and handed it to me. I had no idea what it was so I looked it up and discovered I was holding a Henning nickel.
Hi Christian, I bought one ,1944, when I first started collecting late 1950’s early 60’s. Got it from my dealer at the time, when I was starting on my type set. They called them Camden Nickels, guess that is where they were made. Had to look for it I had almost forgot about it. Take care, Bill
I love this story, I was actually just telling my daughter about it, and then saw your video pop up. Awesome, and thanks Christian!! Would love to find one of these babies!
Wow. Been collecting my whole life. I have all sorts of odd coins. Just bought a certified 20 cent piece. I love all the different varieties for each coin. I'm trying to get an example of all. Ive heard the term before but never knew what it was. I'm gonna start looking for one of these. Awesome video!!
Gotta check some of the nickels I have. Detected a nickel cache of 30+ coins in the woods and seem to remember a war nickel without a mint mark. Thanks for the informative video!
I found a 1944 Henning nickel in change back in the early 1990's. I found out it was a counterfeit and gave it away to a guy in a bar 🍺 after showing him it was a fake.
I just found the rarest of the bunch, found the 1953 ... weighing in at 5.4 grams. There are no recent listings and nor recent sales (sold) on ebay... Is there another place I can look for recent sales,. Thank you.... Mike.
I think I may have come across the mysterious 6th missing year. I came across one of them in a roll of change from the bank. The year I have is 1955 and it is the year that Henning was arrested from what I understand. My nickel has the errors on the back. I would like to find out more about the coin but I haven't seen anyone with one of this particular year. Any ideas? I just saw a Henning of a different year go for over $500 on Ebay.
It’s just one of the earlier nickels for the year. They switched to the war nickel composition later in 1942 so there are a good number of non silver 1942 nickels that won’t have the special mint marks. Hope that helps
From what I understand the 39 and the 44 have a couple different markers the loops are the die crack the extreme Wear and the excessive weight the 47 and 52 they have everything except for the die crack and this is typical straight across the board and I think I've seen that a 47 didn't have the looped r but I recently found a 1939 that's typically supposed to have a die crack on the reverse where it doesn't have the die crack I don't know if that means that it was fabricated with the reverse of 47 or if it was just an earlier coin that was counterfeited do you have any information on that like nickels that have particular obverses and reverses
I'm not exactly sure the scope of this one - I haven't personally dealt with many that weren't 1944s. There are obviously a lot of no mint mark 1939 and 1947/52 - more goes along the other die markers to determine whether you have the other ones.
@@TreasureTownCoins 47-52 would be hard to figure because theyre supposed to be nickel thats if it doesnt have the LOoped R only thing that would make it stand out is the Weigh and the Wear....i got a couple nickels in the date range that have excess weigh and wear but ive only found two hennings in the past two months with the looped R believe it or not the 44 around XMas becasue i gave it to my brother and one a couple days ago 39 hope it turns out i have more of them HAHAAH

My dream is to find a Henning in a roll!

Can't believe I had never heard of these!
They are extremely cool! So kind of John to forward the coins along to me.
That's super cool Christian thank you.
Very interesting! I’m now running to my nickel storage and grabbing the weight meter! 🏃🏼🔬⚖️😄

Have a question for you sir . Could you look at a coin for me and tell me if it’s worth getting graded ?

Certainly something to check for.

If you have a Henning Nickel do you have to forfeit it ? I have one, although I don't want it taken away from me.
I found an 1940 nickel weight 5.04 and 1952 no mint mark 5.06 I weighed about 75 more these was the only one with wrong weight
Got 1942 with no mint mark can you please give me more information about it

Does a magnet stick to it?
I would imagine no
I understand that the sixth nickel was dated 1941.
Is there 5 cents 1941 bronze thanks
I have just I've had it a long time I have a 1946 nickel
I believe there's a 1938 out there somewhere!
I want one
They're awesome!
The real question is how did he pay the fine, with nickels?🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

My brother found one in pocket change and sense I'm the family coin guy he showed it to me I didn't know what he had but I told him to keep it I don't know if he did but he passed recently so I'll have to ask his girlfriend about it
Sorry to hear about your brother - was a good find on his part though and if you can, keeping that find might be a nice way to remember him.
@@TreasureTownCoins it would but she said she don't know where it is i told her if she finds it to let me know i will buy it if she can find it
i have a 1943 nickel with a letter p on top of the capitol
Monticello
I have 3 pcs
Wouldn't the main marker #1 be the lack of a mint mark? That seems to be the only indicator one would need.
On wartime nickels, the other years wouldn't have one like Philadelphia they didn't add the P on Jefferson nickels till the 70's
