My papa was in an ammo truck and hoped if to guard the railroad the truck hit a land mine blew up and killed everyone except my papa he had shrapnel in his leg and he died in 2001
“Our nation honors her sons and daughters who answered the call to defend a country they never knew and a people they never met.” Our all Koreans remember this verse and will always be deeply grateful for your sacrifice!
Indeed the "Forgotten War" I had my '45 GPW at a car show, with markings, gear, & me in uniform. An old boy who was in Korea was quite moved... then started to tell me about the war. I told him I'd been airborne infantry & he really kicked into gear!!! He was 187th Airborne RCT & had done BOTH combat jumps. What a lesson for me, we talked for over two hours, including how they dropped jeeps, supplies. You place looks great, a best buddy from my paratrooper days lives in Colorado Springs, we'll have to visit!!! Maybe I'll have my 1/187th GPW
My Grandpa was in the Korean War. A Grenade went off next to him, blew his ear drums out, left his back full of Shrapnel and he couldn’t walk. He was carried by another soldier and my Grandpa said had it not been for that Man carrying him out he would have died. Makes me thankful, to whoever carried off my Grandfather.
Only with todays youth would the Korean war be forgotten. This days youth are worse than the ones during the Vietnam war. The Vietnam war is the war that is close to my heart. The veterans got a really raw deal. They came home from a war that most did not want. These vets were spit upon and called baby killers by ingrates. The VA hospital does not take care for these vets like they should. My mother was a welder in WW2, in the shipyard in TItusville Fl. So all vets are awesome, Just Vietnam vets are just more special to me. Since I grow up in that error. They are just awesome. I had two brothers serving in the Vietnam war. I am 56 years of age .I was the baby. Shalom Alecheim
The memorial to your wife and her father is beautiful, a personal piece of history amongst all of the military hardware. All the best Dragon Man, from Italy.
I recently just learned about your wife's passing and I'm so sorry for your loss. From what I've read, she was a great woman! Unfortunately, I too lost my best friend/wife - 2008 car accident. Anyhow, my father also fought in the Korean War (Air Force). I love your dedication to preserving/teaching about our military history! Thank you and your family for being such a patriots, Mel!!
Same here but I never knew mine, he ended up drinking himself to death apparently, Korean War was probably one of the worst wars, war is not a joke and We should respect all people who fight for our freedom
My dad was a pole-climber in Korea, so I really appreciate this. He graduated HS in 51 or 52 and was drafted into the Army. The cease-fire was put in the day before his ship landed and he had to help deal with cleaning up battlefields. He always said "I would've rather had to fight than to see the crap I had to look at every day."
My great grandfather served in Korea from 1950-1953 and was as tough as nails. He was funny and a good spirited man. Never a day was he sad. He passed away in 2013. 🇺🇸
Thank you Dragon man this video really touched a part of my heart I had an uncle that served in the Korean War he made it home but was never the same I always wanted to ask him questions about his experience in the military sadly he passed away in 2005. I don't even know his rank but his name was Felix Rodriguez Gonzalez born in Bad Axe Michigan. Rest in heaven Uncle Felix
My grandpa fought in the Korean War and he drove a tank and is still living. Also when someone came to his school to recruit he and his friend ran away because he knew that if he sighed up he would have been kill in the front lines so he sighed up the second time though. And the tank he drove was a WW2 tank.
First time I saw the old MASH movie, I was puzzeld wich war it depicted. I was in 7th grade back then. It seemed a lot like WW2 but the Helicopters made no sense in that context. I asked my dad and he told me about korea. He was shocked that I had not learned that back in school.
Great to see some Korean war recognition. My father served on our small carriers the HMAS melbourne and HMAS Sydney. He was BCOF stationed in Japan. Met some of his army mates who were badly injured in the battle of Kapyong defending thier Bren gun pits against wave upon wave of fresh Chinese troops. Naturally this war always had a big impact on me and it's not often you see any sort of recognition of it, especially here in Australia
Another way you can tell between a WWII M1 Helmet pot and a later one is if the seam on the rim is on the front or back. If it is on the front it is early to mid WWII (1942-1944), if it is on the rear, then it is late WWII (1945) and on wards. The fixed bail (in which you are talking about) was made only in the earlier parts of WWII. They soon changed to swivel bales because the fixed bales broke off often. This change happened around 1943. I do agree that soldiers in Korea did get the old WWII items, such as helmets! Great museum and maybe if I am in that area I will come and visit!
My grandpa was in Korea. He was in the 20th infantry division E Company from 1960-64. He did work on the Davy Crockett I forget what he did but I think he was like a base guard cause I remember his dog was Ralph and he was a German shepherd
they made new m1 helmets and liners as well. any m1 with an M or MWA prefix was pruduced between 1951 and around 1956. wow! the helmet you picked up has a rare st clair liner from ww2! they introduced swivel bales in late 1943. sorry for your loss. i hope i can make it to your awesome museum one day.
Could you do a Greek/Hellenic army display for the Korean war? We were stationed at the Harry valley with the American soldiers, we joined in the 5th day of the war and left in 1955.
