@@576i25 Looks great! Do you have any details on the virtualdub/avisynth process? Is there a site or guide you followed? I am about to convert some old tapes and would be ecstatic if I could achieve similar results. Any additional details would be greatly appreciated!
@@bleugt Hey, basically, i just followed instructions from following video to set-up AviSynth, deinterlace and scale-up the raw video after digitizing it: ruclips.net/video/C4PyyQoz6eo/видео.html
@@bleugt the process of deinterlacing and scale-up is also trial-and-error, in some extend. I have tried different settings and functions, before i achieved the image i was happy with.
This is amazing. I followed the link to Andrew Swan's video which you've posted in one of the replies. Is it possible for you to share your avsi file? I only got the basic setup for deinterlacing and upscaling out of that video. Your video looks much more refined, so I guess more filters and processes were used.
Easiercap is the place a lot of beginners go. Sometimes the units aren't reliable but its like $10 so you can try a few to get used to it. For software you can start with OBS; its free and easy to set up. Its better known for streaming, but it will capture an external video source and save it as a file on the computer. Another free program is Shotcut, its an open source video editor which can capture video from easiercap as a source. And thirdly the usb card comes with windows software that will capture the video, but the other two options yield higher image quality results. There are many more methods, almost as many as there are different models of tape based video recorders. It all depends on what you have access to and what you need out of it. My preferred method is using a thunderbolt connection BlackMagic Intensity Shuttle and the included software for it. I am an analog video nerd so I like experimenting and I continue to shoot tape and film to this day. If you are looking to just digitize some tapes you have, then the channel "gotmemories.com" is the best i know of to send them to. You can find them by searching for that name on youtube.
hi can you recommend me sony cameras in this style with the same image quality, I'm lost with all the models, I'm looking for something close to your video and the models that I find are often not very clear pls help
bro how to record video from hi8 tapes to pc? I used easycap adapter to record my video from hi8 tapes but the video fps drop not same on my preview playback in my camcorder, do you know what's the problem?
I think Hi8 was only 400 Lines or something like this. I noticed, that Video quality depends to a high degree on the tapes you use. I have used professional-grade SONY ProME tapes, like this one: www.elviapro.cz/fotocache/bigdetailorig/E560HMEX.jpg So when using professional tapes, (not necessary from SONY, there were some from TDK, for example) you can achieve much better results that with common consumer-grade tapes. Also keep in mind, that used tapes, especially cheap ones, can cause image degrading already after being used 2-3 times. And last, but not least - keep the head drum clean
No, The vertical resolution of NTSC is only 480 lines, PAL/SECAM is 576 lines, Hi8. V8, VHS and Beta all alike. The theorical horizontal resolution of Hi8 and S-VHS is equivalent of 400 pixels or levels of brightness (not lines), but after it gets recorded to tape it is roughly 300 levels of brightness or luminance (depends on tape quality), Chroma resolution is the same for all consumer formats.
My heart aches when I see old videos, it's like I'm carried away by memories of the past
Me pasa igual, también cuando encuentro vídeos antiguos de este estilo tipo del 2008, son como ver recuerdos de otras personas
Is it even though? Because I still have a Hi8 camera that I been shooting video with the past 10 years.
I also have a Sony hi8 camera
Same! So many childhood memories just popped up.
It’s weird that this is how my childhood looked in my head 😂
@@julez6046 Yes, those memories will never be lost ☺️🙏
The quality is very impressive
What an atmosphere
Watch this video in 480p is so romantic ❤
Finally someone that knwos framing
But doesn’t know capture software. Black barred the sides like a brainlet so I can’t watch it in native 4:3 full screen on my iPad.
knew the audio sounded like avril 14th lol
I'm impressed by the quality you got after digitizing it. What exactly did you use to digitize the tapes? :D
hi, i have used the viewcast osprey 260e capture card, and then upscale in virtualdub with AviSynth+
