    God bless the producers, the script writer and the actors. When films like this are made, then there is still hope for mankind. Not a typical block buster or Hollywood produce, but this one deserves a noble prize for peace. The pace of the movie, the music, the acting, the editing and cutting . . . just perfect. Thank you in the name of humanity. And greetings to all from Germany.

    This is a 1 in a thousand movie. Unless you have a heart of stone you will find this moving to the max, on so levels. There is so much depth here. Don't be dissuaded by a slow start. My deepest respect for all parents that are living the nightmare of a child who isn't well.

      Yes, this movie was so beautiful because of the many layers of complex emotions and consequences. I felt the nurse had compassion for the boy. She acted she acted out of love for her mother but was not indifferent to the fact that she was putting the boy at risk. Her love for her mother was as deep, real as the farmer's love for his son. She felt relief and gratitude for her mother's recovery while at the same time feeling pain for the boy's injury. Her choice was not rooted in self absorption/self centeredness, nor stubbornness, nor indifference to the boy she didn't know... it was love. We saw her struggle with the decision, but in the end, she simply loved her mother too much to see her suffer any more. We saw that the nurse understood the consequence of her decision and chose to see it with open eyes, will carry the weight of what happened to the boy, because her heart filled with love. Life isn't easy, or black and white, when you live having compassion and empathy for others in addition to trying to take care of yourself and those you love. It was beautiful to see the transformation of the land dealer, he finally saw the reality around him.

    What a gem of a movie-and what an understatement, too! An impressively clever plot that evolves from seemingly incoherent at first and gradually gels over the message that human perception and judgment is incapable of reaching beyond the limitations of the simplistic individual's grasp without figuring in other parties, regardless of culture or status. Not flattering, but factual. An astute analysis of the self-perpetuating origins of conflict among our kind and a very difficult message to bring across plainly and convincingly in a feature lenght movie without appearing artificial, patronizing or otherwise stilted.

    This sure was not an ordinary movie with the usual well known 'stars' and a "cookie-cutter" script. This was powerful and gut wrenching and exposed the dark side of International development projects in 3rd world countries at the expense of the people of that country.
    These unknown ( at least to me here in the U.S. ) actors showed their heart and soul and did an outstanding and believable job.
    I read a book some years ago now called " Confessions Of An Economic Hitman", written by a man named John Perkins. I highly recommend getting this book. He told how he worked for these international corporations and went to these types of 3rd world countries and financed huge projects such as oil and energy projects like hydroelectric projects. When the country could not pay their debt when it was demanded by the corporations, the corporations would take over the economy of the country and the people were worse off than before.
    This stuff really happens...it's not just a sad movie...it is hard core reality.

      I think he changed the real story on his book to appease the government. What I know is that he worked for a corporation hired by USA government to do the dirty deed for them. How? He would travel to Central or South American countries with a briefcase filled with a million dollars. He would offer the money to corrupt presidents of some of these countries for free in exchange of selling a national or government company for at a reduced rate to american companies. If the presidents wouldn't take the money, they would come up with an attempt to kill that president. If he or they took the money, the corporations would charge them compound interest that they could never repay. Perkins regretted this later on and exposed his company and the government for these fraud and criminal extortion dealings. I think it was a president of Ecuador at the time that missed getting on his plane and a bomb went off on the flight where his life was saved by not taking the flight. Perkins exposed this on the internet because his life was threatened to get killed. He said, he did it on the internet on the open, because, if he was killed, everybody, the public, would know who was behind his death. 🤔

    (English below) . . . Esta película grita en vos alta con autenticidad. La gente y donde vive es como lo es el Perú. En esta película, Perú no necesitaba un diseñador de vestuario, maquilladores, o un director de casting; Perú proveía todo: crudo, simple y verdadero. Los nombres y rostros, la clara enunciación que es típica incluso de los campesinos peruanos, especialmente de los cuzqueños, marcan a estas personas y a su país como estén en la vida real.
    ENGLISH: When my adopted daughter, a Cuzqueña from Huayapata en La Convención, was overheard talking to a vendor in a market in Cali, Colombia, people silently gathered around in awe to listen to her. It was then that I knew that what I had read about people from Cuzco was true: Cuzqueños now speak the purest and earliest Spanish--as the Spaniards spoke 500 years before. It is clear, easy to understand, and grammatically correct.

    What an exquisitely crafted, heart rending film! (It's rather a shame to describe it as a thriller, drama; 'thriller' may discourage potential viewers.) The comments in response to Wood Wage are particularly touching. SPOILER ALERT: Yes, we're all aware of corporate greed as a massive, destructive global evil. Yes, we all love a story about someone taking an honourable stand. But how many of us are prepared to scrutinise ourselves when it comes to selfishness? The most appalling action in the story was that of the woman, worse still a nurse, prioritising an elderly person over a child. Unless it was an error in the plot .... Doctors and/or Codes of Medical Practice distinguish between elective procedures and emergencies. No patient or family member could prevail against ethical practice. Nonetheless, this beautiful film will remain in my heart forever!

    • @brucekugler5164
      @brucekugler5164 2 года назад +5

      I think the nurse prioritized her mother, her blood, over the boy, who survived, minus a leg. She wasn't prioritizing "an elderly person," but her mother, big difference. This was of course mirrored by the same greed of the businessman, which a cracked opened for one to become a mensch in the end. You're right, who stands up when the pressure is intense to lose so much, is hard to judge. Surprised this film got such harsh reviews which I read. Loved it.

    • @outdoorscientist
      @outdoorscientist 2 года назад +3

      Let's see. There is Oliver, who carelessly waives aside human suffering for profit, Scaravedo, happy to lie to the whole village (when has mining ever made live better for indigenous people?) and of course Nathan, portraying corporate evil at its best. All of these made decisions that will cause real pain and damage way beyond one lost leg, and with nothing but profit for justification. I find it really hard to understand how the poor nurse's choice gets elected as "the most appalling action".
      Especially, because there are no guarantees for her. The surgeon might operate later on her mother, but also the tide might change. She is in a extremely vulnerable position and I wish such choices on no one.
      It is specifically the "corporate greed" that you shove aside so nonchalantly which creates an abundance of situations like this. But this we are used to, so it hits less hard than an innocent person making a heart-breaking choice she clearly feels awful for.
      For further information about systems which produce this kind of violence feel free to google "structural violence"

      No lo veo como impaciencia ya que a la hija se le había negado repetidamente el cuidado de su madre y había recurrido a chantajear al médico para obtener la cirugía necesaria. Los detalles de la situación del niño, no se describieron como una emergencia urgente o lo que podría implicar el resultado de su espera. Pero después de todo es una película y esa decisión no habría sido suya. I do not see it as impatience since the daughter had repeatedly been denied care for her mother and had resorted to blackmailing the doctor to get the surgery needed. The details of the child's situation, were not described as an urgent emergency or what the outcome of his waiting could entail. But after all it is a movie and that decision would not have been hers to make.

    It has always come down to this in history when ever shrewd businessmen acquiring land for profit are motivated by greed rather than human values. Seeing how the buyer of the land in this movie made his offer to the residents by promising them better earnings and a better way of life for them if they sold to him and later on in the movie noticing that he had no intention of keeping his promise for their well-being made his closing statement towards the end of the movie totally redundant when the man said that he was shrewd but that he would never ever take a human iife (kill anyone), when in fact he was being shrewd by choosing his words to furthering his business efforts in obtaining control of the desired land.
