    I remember it this way: _este_ is near, so you can see the _t_ but _ese_ is too far to see it :-] The explanation of the accents is fabulous!

      Also the t is esta stands for temporary

      I remember them by thinking that ese and esa are farther away, so they are smaller. Este and esta are closer and therefore larger, sort of similar to way you described.

      I envision T (esta) as being close to the tower (t is a tall structure that you have to look up-to) but there are no T or tall tower to have to look up to see the top (ese (from a distance, the tall tower looks shorter, (no tall T that you have to bend your neck to see the top)

      @@RyanGarrettMusic, she speaks too much Spanish?!? what do you want to learn then?! the more Spanish she speaks the more we learn from her. a bunch of English rambling is preschool level. actually it's not even preschool because preschoolers would learn faster by just jumping in with immersion. Seriously you'd learn more by watching her read children's books to you than her not using Spanish. Real Spanish is learned from *practicing* it. People who think people speak too much of the target language just don't know how to learn a language. if you want to learn any language, the BEST thing you can do is find videos where people actually speak the language. Trying to learn Spanish without a teacher speaking it is like trying to learn to drive without actually getting in the car. Seriously, too much Spanish? That's ludicrous. She doesn't speak NEAR enuf Spanish in these classes. But i still like her teachings. Her biggest mistake is not speaking enuf Spanish.

    Ana muchichisimas gracias!!!! Here is a little tip that I find very helpful, that you might want to share with students. For English speakers it is very difficult to remember when to use the Spanish equivalent for 'this' and 'that', 'these' and 'those'!!!! When we are referring to something close we say 'this' which is 'este' or 'esta', and when we refer to something further away from us we use 'that' which is ;ese' or 'esa'. OK here is the (tip, trick, or aid) notice in real life when things are close to you they appear larger than when they are further from you. The same is true for these Spanish words, notice that the words 'este' and 'esta' are longer (larger) for objects close to you than the words 'ese' and 'esa' which are for objects further away. The same helpful guide applies for the plurals 'estos' and 'esos', and 'estas' and 'esas'.

      Briefly, "se" is used like "one" in English. Se puede comer aqui? Can "one" eat here? Se puede hablar Ingles aqui? Does someone/anyone speak English here? Of course there are other ways to use it and it's usually when the person or thing is non specific.

    • @cellgrrl
      @cellgrrl 6 лет назад

      "Se" without an accent is part of a reflexive verb. So it will used often. Just by itself it means little, but with its parent reflexive verb it refers back to the object of that verb. For example "él se cayó". He fell down. So, caerse is the verb.

      Un consejo, you don't say: "son muy confundiendo", confundiendo its the verb with -ing, the correct way is: "son muy confusos". Also, you say: "y quiero aprender más español" (and I want to learn more spanish, not and I wanted to learn more spanish). Greetings from Colombia :)

      Yeah, that seems like a major oversight. Students not knowing how to use the Spanish neuter gender (or not even knowing there is a neuter) is a major roadblock to learning.

      Esto and eso are used as demonstratives when you do not know the name of an object, so you have no idea what the gender of that object is. For example, if I have a rose in my hand, and you do not know the name of the flower, you can ask '¿Qué es esto?', is like saying 'What is this/it?' So in this sense it is sort of 'neuter' gender, although that gender does not exist in Spanish. Of course, after I have told you the name of the flower, you should say 'Ésta es una rosa.' Similar is the usage of 'eso'.
      Also, you can say something like 'Qué es esto!' when you are scolding someone, like in English you say 'What is this!' if someone has created a mess. And someone was talking about permanent/temporary things - that is not correct.
      Hope this be helpful.

    • @victoriamuniz8958

      Osama, como dicen los comentarios anteriores, la diferencia es tanto de género como de distancia.
      Este y esta, es para especificar un objeto cercano al hablante. "Este" para un objeto masculino y "esta" para un objeto de género femenino. "Esto" es para especificar un objeto cercano de genero neutro o de genero sin especificar. Por lo tanto, "ese", "esa" y "eso", es lo mismo pero para referirse a objetos más lejanos.
      Aun así, te dejo un artículo de wikipedia donde lo explican, por si te sirve de ayuda

      Osama Negm eu vou explicar em português criou que vais entender a diferença entre (ese / este) é que ese você usa quando o objecto ta próximo com quem você ta conversa,
      O nome do objecto deve ser Do género feminino geralmente iniciam ou terminou com A.
      Enquanto
      Este você usa quando o objecto ta próximo de ti mesmo,
      Género feminino.
      A diferença entre ( eso / esto) e a mesma coisa voce usa eso quando o objecto ta próximo dele,
      O nome do objecto deve ser do género masculino geralmente iniciam ou terminam com o.
      E esto quando o objecto
      próximo de ti,
      Do género masculino.

      *Golbon Mol* - Exactly, It could be an option. But mainly we use it to ask a question. For example;
      "¿Qué es esto?" = "What's this?"
      "¿Qué es eso? = "What's that?"
      When we still don't know their gender we use "Eso" or "Esto".
