Who else is here after going mad in Duolingo?
Maybe she should take over duolingo
I like Duolingo but I’m guessing a lot.
Me!!
Yo tambien😊
Same! It’s frustrating!
but I guess it’s good cuz it showed us that we need to look something specific up.
I remember it this way: _este_ is near, so you can see the _t_ but _ese_ is too far to see it :-] The explanation of the accents is fabulous!
Also the t is esta stands for temporary
I remember them by thinking that ese and esa are farther away, so they are smaller. Este and esta are closer and therefore larger, sort of similar to way you described.
I envision T (esta) as being close to the tower (t is a tall structure that you have to look up-to) but there are no T or tall tower to have to look up to see the top (ese (from a distance, the tall tower looks shorter, (no tall T that you have to bend your neck to see the top)

Omg! Why would a person thumbs down any of this woman's videos? She's really good at what she does! And her energy is the best!
I haven't done it, but for example, to me it's difficult to understand her because she seems to speak spanish more than english and since I'm only learning spanish, I don't understand her. And there are no subs either.
@@adri_144 that’s what I was going to say lol I got about half of what she was saying in Spanish and while it made me worry I was missing the lesson I do agree it’s good to also practice listening skills. Like I know tons of Spanish but then when it’s put together in sentences and spoken at normal speed I miss sooooo much so I like that she does it just maybe a bit too much
I always assume it's an accident. I hit things on my screen by accident all the time. :/

You would never know because RUclips fears hurting anyone’s feelings. Hay ben dito

agreed, me gusta Ana mucho but too much English in most of her lessons

Ana muchichisimas gracias!!!! Here is a little tip that I find very helpful, that you might want to share with students. For English speakers it is very difficult to remember when to use the Spanish equivalent for 'this' and 'that', 'these' and 'those'!!!! When we are referring to something close we say 'this' which is 'este' or 'esta', and when we refer to something further away from us we use 'that' which is ;ese' or 'esa'. OK here is the (tip, trick, or aid) notice in real life when things are close to you they appear larger than when they are further from you. The same is true for these Spanish words, notice that the words 'este' and 'esta' are longer (larger) for objects close to you than the words 'ese' and 'esa' which are for objects further away. The same helpful guide applies for the plurals 'estos' and 'esos', and 'estas' and 'esas'.
Lynn Wilbur Yes! I'm an English speaker and I just realized this and was going to post the same tip! 😊👍
That's a great way to look at it!
@@AshaMae hola

I literally never leave comments on youtube, but Ana is an amazingly effective Spanish teacher. She actually incorporates a ton of mnemonic strategies in her teaching which is SO helpful. She uses diagrams and scenarios to help you organize and understand grammatical concepts, AND she's fun to watch and learn from. Thank you, Ana!

Talk about a laughing class. I moved to Mexico a week ago and these classes are the most helpful I've found. They are such a mix of educational and joyful. I find myself smiling the whole time, and as a visual learner, they are incredible. Thank you so much.
I am a Native Spanish speaker and I think Spanish will be easy for a native English speaker to learn. It is mostly a replace the word in English with the one in Spanish. I said "mostly". I'd say memorize the most used Spanish words first and you'll have won "most" of the battle.

@@josefelixtupuezleon5332 when you say "can you" that makes it a question, even without a ? at the end. So you should have said "you can also say" instead of "can you say too". If you want to use "too" you'd have to put it at the end, so "you can say 'gracias por el video' too". I hope that helps.

maravillosa 🧡gracias! ONE question: what about "eso" and "esto" which you wrote on the far left of the board? i don't think you mentioned those...?
I looked this up: eso and esto are what you use when gender isn't appropriate, for example, what you might say to your kids when they are arguing: "That is enough!" = "Eso es suficiente!"
In spanish we do not say «that's enough» to the children when they are arguing, no decimos «eso es suficiente».
Lo que nosotros decimos es:
¡Ya!
¡Cállense!
¡A callar!
¡Silencio!
¡Se callan!
That's what we used to say.
Eso es lo que solemos decir.
@@enriquegranados5179 you don't say "justo!"? in spanish?
@@royvillasin5287 To reduce children to silence, no.
«Justo» is a word that we use in other cases.
@@enriquegranados5179 también se puede decir "¡suficiente!, o "¡basta!" , tal vez lo más frecuente es mandar a callar
Eso is the masculine word for that. That cat is on the street. Ese gato está en la calle.

I love your lessons! Could you please do one on when to use "se"? I see it in sentences all the time and have no idea what it stands for. Ive tried looking it up and no one explains it well.
It mean I know. No se is I don’t know
😂 not "sé", there's a difference between sé and se. I'm talking about the one without an accent.
Ariana S. se with out the accents means was
Briefly, "se" is used like "one" in English. Se puede comer aqui? Can "one" eat here? Se puede hablar Ingles aqui? Does someone/anyone speak English here? Of course there are other ways to use it and it's usually when the person or thing is non specific.
"Se" without an accent is part of a reflexive verb. So it will used often. Just by itself it means little, but with its parent reflexive verb it refers back to the object of that verb. For example "él se cayó". He fell down. So, caerse is the verb.
"He or she knows what the hell you're talking about...." LOLOL
LOL I thought she said the same thing at first, but I think what she actually said was house...
Lol. I watched that part 3 times trying to figure out if she said, "Hell," or, "House." I am going with "Hell." It's funnier.
I can’t believe I am just now finding her!! She explains Spanish soooooo easily and effective!!!! Omg!!! Wow!!!!

*What's the difference* between etso and [este/esta]?
Also
What's the difference between eso and [ese/esa]?
In other words, what's the purpose of esto if [este/esta] mean the same thing? The same question for eso with [ese/esa].
This house - Esta casa
This hotel- Este hotel
This (no noun only pronoun) is fine - Esto es bonito.
But what about “esto”??
It’s why I came here. Lol
I gather it’s used when referring to something in neutral gender?
From what I've learned, I guess "esto" and "eso" are just pronouns, there's no need to add a noun after them like "este" or "ese"
@@alivyzhang3949 Thank you.
Man I watched the whole video too and still waiting.
That's what I was watching this for. But she didn't mention it even though it was written on the board behind her.
Esto and eso are used as demonstratives when you do not know the name of an object, so you have no idea what the gender of that object is. For example, if I have a rose in my hand, and you do not know the name of the flower, you can ask '¿Qué es esto?', is like saying 'What is this/it?' So in this sense it is sort of 'neuter' gender, although that gender does not exist in Spanish. Of course, after I have told you the name of the flower, you should say 'Ésta es una rosa.' Similar is the usage of 'eso'.
Also, you can say something like 'Qué es esto!' when you are scolding someone, like in English you say 'What is this!' if someone has created a mess. And someone was talking about permanent/temporary things - that is not correct.
Hope this be helpful.
Girl, you are the best!!!
Kisses from Bulgaria 🇧🇬❤️
Thank you very much
Muchas gracias
شكرا جزيلا
Did you go over "esto" and "eso?" I think you forgot. Unless I missed it.
Yeah, that seems like a major oversight. Students not knowing how to use the Spanish neuter gender (or not even knowing there is a neuter) is a major roadblock to learning.
ja ja hoh
edit: lloll
Wasn't just me, went back to look, assuming I missed it.
I was waiting for that too
"Esto" is usually like talking about something close to you and "eso" is mainly from far away, like, "Mira esto quí" "Look over here" and, "Mira eso", "Look at that" that's how I read them as
4:50 When the Legion Condor arrives in Guernica
This woman is a force of nature, but under control. I've just started Spanish at age 69, and she makes me think I might possibly be in with a chance of making some progress. Irrelevant I know, but she's also a very attractive person.
