Yes, they are symphonic metal. From The Netherlands, formed in 1996 by lead singer Sharon den Adel and her partner, guitarist Robert Westerholt. 7 full albums, and several and several EP's, with album #8 due out later this year. Sharon is mostly self taught, she also has a degree in fashion design, and has designed a lot of her stage outfits. They are based in symphonic metal, but will move around to other styles frequently, and are generally not as heavy as Nightwish or EPICA. The spoken part in the beginning of this song is from a speech by Winston Churchill. If you would like more, try Ice Queen, Mother Earth ,Shot in the Dark, Faster, or their 2 newest songs Don't Pray For Me or The Fire Within. They also have done quite a few collaborations, including Paradise (What About Us) with Tarja.
