  • Take a journey with me as I explore some of the St. Francis trail in Ocala National Forest. St. Francis was once a thriving river town in the 1800's but is now a ghost town.Today you can follow the hiking trails through many of the areas where the town once existed. It is a very scenic hike and place to enjoy nature. www.ghosttowns...

I’m so stoked that you do these. Loads of great local history and beautiful wilderness. Really dig the low-key presentation style. With landscapes like this, silence can say more sometimes. Thank you!

I think that mosquito was trying to decide whether to eat you there or carry you deeper Into the Woods

First time across that log bridge for me was in the dark on a bike, walked it across. Rode out of Deland though St. Francis took the St. Francis Paisley wagon road and camped off of an old logging road. Love that area. That well is artesian and taste like sulfur but if your thirsty enough it doesn't matter.

Looks like a great place to explore! I have lived in the Ocala area for 35 years, don't recall hearing about St. Francis. Thank you for sharing.
I am sure that there are many stories lingering in the forest around St. Francis.

@@lilkashky The crime is your silly comment, it's a very popular 7 mile hike in the southern end of Ocala National Forest where Lake and Volusia counties meet on the St Johns River outside of Deland FL.

I've been going to that exact area for 30 years. There are still foundations out there just under the dirt.
You were nice enough not to show all the trash by the area near channel marker 26, but it's gotten bad in recent years.
The first area of river you showed was the St Francis dead river. You were on what was a land bridge at one time where hand and ox carts would bring rice from the other side. I've hiked that and you can still see where the fields were.
I've drank from that well although it smells like bad eggs. There's another one on an island not far from there.
I've explored there by boat, by 4x4 and on foot for a very long time. Anything you wanna know about the area just ask. The town has some sorted history not many people know about. And there's a reason metal detecting is illegal there!

Since you go to these places so often it might help to set up some trail cameras. You get a whole different perspective on all the wildlife that's around you that you Don't see. I love your videos and the history. Check out Tim Harrell, he chases the ever-elusive ghost orchid 🤔. He also does trail cameras in blue cypress and the green swamp. 👍👍

My family has lived here in Marion county since 1822, around simmons pond, and we had land in the forest, and if you like old ghost stories and Florida serial killers my great grandfather was BLOODY ED WATSON,

Man. My family came to Ocala in 1935, I love our local folklore and haunting areas. I have a novel on Ocala being published soon. I would love to know of your own stories of history here in Ocala.

@PatWarson - I thought Watson was from S.Carolina, tho I heard he had family in Columbia county before moving to Chokoloskee. I’ve camped on his old homestead off the Chatham River in the glades, pretty damn remote scrap of land.
