- Title: How to Open the Front Cover of my Bose Companion 2 Series II Speaker and Repair the Distorted Sound.
My BOSE Companion 2 Series II speaker has a distorted sound after it was not used for more than a year. The speaker is super glued and not easy to disassemble. The Speaker is not designed for easy repair.
On this video I will show you how I able to open the cover and repair the distorted sound by using a parts of a cheap speaker that I bought for 1.5US$ in a electronic shop.

Now I find out why the left speaker of my old Companion 2 has broken sound. You are a genius!!! Thank you for your intelligence, bravery and, of course, patience!
Helped me out a lot trying to repair some of these thank you!
Awesome !. I saw a video somewhere that showed how to open the grill with lighter liquid or something like that. He did not use heat. I think the important thing is to have a good sound. The grill can be replaced with a custom one or even painting the speaker if the grill is broken. Great video !. thanks man !.
I can only assume that with over 32k views that’s 32k people with the same problem, that’s probably 64k speakers going to a landfill. Poor performance from Bose, they should’ve designed the housing for easy access as changing the actual speaker is relatively easy. Great vid btw.
The worst thing is that a year this has gone up to 69K views, which suggests the same pair of speakers keeps producing problems for people, and today add 2 new speakers that we just took to the trash because of the difficulty and low repairability :/
Thanks a lot for your video ! I'm in the process to fix my speaker. Personnaly I chose to break it on the plastic line with a wood chisel and then I cut the little metallic fixations of the front protection from the inside, but it was far from easy even with my little saw grinder. Then I think I'll proceed whith some hot glue to bind everything back together. Anyway, that's cool to share your fixing process. Good job !
Thanks for sharing and for appreciating my video...
After this video, I came to the conclusion that it does not worth the effort... Opening the speakers means destroying them. It is clear they are not meant to be fixed, just replaced when damaged.
Just buy a new set of speakers and be happy, and I say this as an Electronic and Telecom Engineer that I am, after fixing many electronic devices that really offer the option to be fixed and stay in good shape, not with the body or case destroyed in the process.
Mine aren't exactly like this, but really similar! Thank you for the tips!
Nice project. Easy to make. Thanks
Judging by all of the negative comments already posted here, I guess I am one of the fortunate few. Because I have owned my *Bose Companion 2 Series II* speakers since they were initially released & to this very day they still work/sound like a god damn charm. 👌🏻
Very lucky
Very clever, logical solution.
Thanks 😊😊😊
Gr8 clip, my speakers are the same as yours? it is the control speaker that has become rattly. Shame that they are so difficult to pull apart, thank you for the video.
At least you got sound I don’t have any sound from my companion 20
For me it was the right one that blew out, makes sense since it is the one that gets the hottest, due to being connected to the AC adapter.
Bose must do a recall for this speakers, i can tell you that are a lot of this model out there with the same issue !!!!
I agree...
LA VERDAD SI CREO QUE ESE PROBLEMA ES DE TODOS. LOS MÍOS ESTÁN ASÍ Y SUENAN FEO.. NO SE COMO ABRIRLOS
Now I got an idea how to repair my Bose Companion 2 speaker.. thanks for making this video.
thanks...
Superb!!!
I want to know that how was the sound quality after repairing it ?
Does it still feels like BOSE ?
If yes then I have exactly the same speakers and I think they have similar problem.
Can you repair these too ?
I have Bose Companion 2 Series II.
Yes sir, the sound quality is back to normal after the repair or if the quality changed I don't recognized it. It sounds like a Bose again. 😊
The whole front face does remove and easier than the grill. It is glued in and you will cause SOME damage but most can be hidden. I have just destroyed mine to steal the amp out.
Good job
Thanks 😊😊😊
And I decided to buy a new one 😂 thanks for the video though
You're welcome 😊😊😊
Nice work. Thank you for sharing that with us!
You're welcome and thanks for appreciating my video 😊😊😊
Gracias me sirvió de mucho tu vídeo
De nada y gracias por ver 😊😊😊
excelente, me sirvio mucho tu video.!! gracias
Thanks for video ! Great job ! 🫡🫡🫡🫡
Thank you too! For watching 😊😊😊
スピーカーユニットを交換したくてこの動画見たのですがカバーを綺麗に開ける方法はありませんか?
Good work, nice.
Thanks for appreciating 😊😊😊
Woow, you can use gasoline to soften the rubber glue, after a few minute to can take apart the grill easily
Thanks for that smart idea, additional knowledge for me, highly appreciated thanks 😊😊😊
I found that using the hot air gun melts the rubber speaker surrounds. If hot air is avoided then just flex seal liquid can be used to repair surrounds.
Thanks for the idea Atlas Struggle...
I've had the speakers for over ten years, and they just started breaking up this week, and I've cranked them up DAILY playing with guitar jam tracks! I'm just going to buy a new set and forget about replacing the speakers! I see that they weren't designed for replacement.
Hey sorry, we just want to know, what kind of adhesive are you using?
Thank you so much for this video by the way!
I just cut upper grid with small grinder. Easy and quick.
Good job! Thank you for sharing!
Congratulations!!!
Very nice.
Thanks for appreciating Sir Carlos Barroso... GOD Bless and Be Safe...
where did you buy the replacment speakers?
Wow vera good
Hi, i have the same bose companion 2 and I think the speaker is busted as my friends played it too high and damaged one of the speakers. thanks for the video which really helps. What type of adhesive did you use? Also, you didn't show when you put the grille cover back on. how did it look? I wouldn't expect it to look perfectly the same. I guess these speakers are really not great when it's damaged.
I just use a regular rubber adhesive. This is the common problem with this speaker when getting old. With regards with the cover I still did not put it back since my concern is to make it work again. Glad it helps and Thanks Man for watching my Video.
Definitely to much volume can damage speakers, yet the surrounds go bad after several years on their own.
Brilliant job. But there's now way I'm going through all that rigamarole to fix crappy speakers.
Este problema como es común en ese tipo de bosinas.. Las mías también se le daño esa parte del parlante y se escucha terrible... El problema es que no se como destapar esa parrilla qué trae
Se abren Haciendo palanca con algo delgado pero firme,no se rompen se pueden volver a cerrar .
@@gP7777buena idea amigo con una espatula delgada se comienza, luego con una mas gruesa y sobre todo con mucha paciencia
I have a pair of these with same problem. Big Fail to Bose development for designing a product pretty much impossible to be maintained without damage.
I Agree.
Mine the clip type locks was glued so hard and was deformed and teared.
I thought foam surroundings are a thing of the past. What a fail for a company like bose...
Good upload bud!
thank you xxxRICOxxx
If you twist the volume control back and forth first, let's say about 20 times, this might save the additional work! This action may clean the dusty contacts. Thanks for the video.
How many degrees do you put to release the grid?
The "Coffee and Tools" guy used lighter fluid at the tabs to help dissolve the glue holding the grill on. Obviously I wouldn't combine this method with the heat gun. Lol.
How to remove the bass sound from those speakers?
Where the same it happens to me to yeah I didn’t use it like more than years
Common issue with this model of speaker Sir.
Brilliant!
Thanks Roger for appreciating...
Well done!!
Good video on how to destroy some beautiful Bose speakers.
I am not sure these speakers are worth this much effort. When they get like that use them as bricks or planters.
You can buy cones separately also. Need not hack from a new driver.
where can i buy a cone sir?
What kind of glue?
All purpose contact cement or Rubber adhesive, like Rugby.
Killing another speaker to repair another speaker... there are surrounds that you can buy online
But they are "BOZE" better quality, just look the magnet...
Yes I agree with you Dom
@@dom8396 Yes, but, just buy a new set of Bose speakers... Sent the broken ones to recycling.
Kamusta sound? Same pa dn ba sa dati?
Hindi ko na notice sir kung may pagkakaiba sa dati, sa pandinig ko same lang ang sound compare dati.
Does Bose (or anyone else) sell a replacement speaker that I can install in the housing? I have the Series III version of this speaker, which is very similar, and it has developed the rattling sound in one of the speakers. The Series III enclosure is very easy to open and speaker replacement would be simply. Any sources for a replacement?
Somebody told me before that we can only get a replacement in Bose Store... If your series III is very easy to open, then it's cheaper to just replace the rubber sorround, most probably the rattling sound is due to broken rubber sorround same with my situation. and you can order it in online store. Mine after I replaced with rubber sorround from a cheap speaker still working good until now.
Sir anu size ng speaker nyan?kasi may ganyan din.aq bilhan q na lng ng speaker paper..slmat sir
Hi, please can you kindly tell me the name of the glue you used? I want to buy the same brand. Thanks
The one that i have used in the video is TYPE 99, but you can also use any all purpose contact cement or Rubber adhesive, like Rugby or Pattex.
@@rodBACON Thank you :-)
Any smart person would have just hooked up a battery and 2 wires to the metal grille. It will heat up and negate the use of the hot air gun. Also, everybody knows to use plastic car trim removal tools to pull apart plastic objects, as metal screwdrivers will damage things. Thanks for the fix but you were barbaric in your work 😂
Simply buy a new or used one instead of wasting precious & valuable time #BARBARIAN
THANKS MAN!!!!
your welcome
I have the same problem sir are you from the philippines?
Yes from Philppines... very common problem with this model.
@@rodBACON naiisip ko sir sa bose repair center may special tools sila nilalagare nila ang metal grill then papalita nila ng bagong metal grill. Kaya expensive ang pagpapa repair nyan sa bose. Palit grill, change the entire speaker/brandnew speaker. Hindi sila nag DIY repair na katulad ng ginawa nyo pinatungan pinoy style. Kaya ang dami nya sa market na hindi pa naayos patapon na. Kase after repair hindi mo na mabebenta kase deform na speaker grill. Gusto ko dalhin sa quiapo sa raon pero okey lang sa akin lagariin ang grill basta may tools sila ididikit nalang after. Yun nga special tool para lagariin ng pulido yung grill. Ginagawa nila nilalagare ang 6 contact lock point the palit ng brandnew drill at new speaker mahal yun.
invaluable video. thanks! And i think you came to same conclusion which I thought you would: Keep them open after fixing. No point in trying to fix the cover again right?
Sir how can i repair if the bass sounded basag? Same speaker here..
kung pareho tayo ng speaker, pareho lang tayo ng problema. basag ang sorround ng speaker...
Pwedi pa po ba maayos?bigla na lang po hindi natunog
hey can you please provide me the reference of the surround foam you bought ? diameter, type etc ?
I have those speakers and now I'm sure never to buy anything else from Bose.
Don't use a blade screwdriver--they're too small. Use a wide chesil to pry off the grille.
Thanks for the advise...
Ah, BOSE. El cheapo inside and hard to repair...
Just buy surrounds for them not a whole speaker and destroy it!
ehat size po nung speaker or foam
Why not just use the driver new that you have purchased
the new speaker is very cheap and not so good sound compared with the speaker of bose.
They come with a 2 year warranty....
But, you damaged the speaker net 😢
Ano pandikit na ginamit?
Rugby Lang or kahit anong rubber adhesive pwedi Yan sir Kris...
Why is so hard to open that Grill?
Not meant to be fixed, that is why
This is an example of doing way too much for literally no return on the time invested. You basically damaged the casing for both speakers to then replace the surround woofers with cheap ones that aren't going to deliver the same sound quality and/or output as the ones you replaced. I don't recommend anyone to do this unless if your expectations are simply to disregard the entire reason for buying expensive desktop speakers in the first place which is the sound quality.
El trabajo es un verdadero desastre. Ademas daño un par de altavoces nuevos, cuando esa pieza o goma de borde lo venden. Las daño perdieron todo su valor y calidad de sonido por el trabajo tan realizado
Por el pésimo trabajo....
Pinoy kaba sir
Yes Sir Proud Pinoy...
Pag no power po ano sira niya po
check the power supply adapter for voltage output
Tama si dmcbohol, Yung una kung issue nyan is nasira yung power supply. kaya matagal kung hindi nagamit, pero ng magkaroon ako ng power supply basag na din ang tunog.
tama ka Sir, unang issue ko dyan sa speaker is nasira yung power supply kaya matagal kung hindi nagamit.
a@@rodBACON
check nyo baka wire ng power supply lang sira (naputol sa dulo) kasi matibay ang power supply & amplifier section ng Bose Companion 2 all series
Ang weak part nya is yung foam surround na subrang manipis. Dahil sa hot climate ng Pinas ito ay mag disintegrate/mabulok.
Best na palitan ng rubber butyl surround yan
@@dmcbohol thanks sa input mo Sir...
Buy a new suspension isn't it?
Ahahaha😅
This repair is a piece of crap.
Omg get to the fucking point! JFC
Useless
Another way how not to do it.
