This is one of my favourite songs on the show. It's like the moment where Veronica realizes that there's no turning back. I also love the acting 🙌

I love it as well! Since it's a reprise I've thought of it as showing how Veronica's progressed and grown up a bit. The first time we hear it (in Dead Girl Walking), she's afraid and running away from something, wanting protection, unable to deal with it. But here, she's grown so much since act 1 and though she's afraid, she's learning to protect herself and everyone else. She's gonna tackle the problem head on. That's how I played it at least.
She knew J.D. had to be stopped once and for all to save everyone else. So Veronica got ready to go to war, knowing that they might be joining Heather Chandler, Ram and Kurt if J.D. won.
Just need to add Carrie Hope Fletcher to this mix, she is killing it as Veronica on the West End at the Royal Haymarket, after a fab run at The Other Palace.

Barrett Wilbert Weed’s singing just hits differently. There’s so much emotion in her voice that none of the other singers could match and maybe that’s just my preference but she’s amazing
She’s definitely a class above. Vocally and performance-wise she’s way ahead. But I was surprised how many of the others were actually really solid.

Fun story: My high school did Heathers my senior year and I played Veronica. The girl who got Heather Chandler, was the definition of "that theater kid" and was really passive aggressive towards me because I got the role she thought she deserved. So much so that on opening night, she helped me get into the ugly dress Veronica starts the show in, the dress had snap buttons going down the back and clasps inbetween those buttons. We never used the clasps because they were too hard to get undone with the fabric, but she purposefully did the clasps so I'd get stuck in the dress during the quick change, which I did, and she sang the climax of Beautiful when I missed my que. So we had to stop the show because I still couldn't get out of the dress, my director had to get a pair of pliers from the janitor and snap the clasps off. The girl who was Heather Chandler got kicked out of the show and went to sit in the audience with her parents while her understudy filled in. During rehearsal my voice was always a little shakey on this part, but that night I looked right at her in the audience and belted the note perfectly! Still my favorite memory from that show.

Just imagine you're watching this without knowing what Heathers is, because why the hell not, and you just see a bunch of half naked Kurt and Rams.
And, personally I think Hayley Rosenthal was the better Veronica, but imma have to go with Barrett on the singing part.
I personally think Barrett will always be the best Veronica out of anyone. Shes the original, and the girl who truly made the role.

I've been watching vids like this for so long and have always dreamed of being in one and you have seriously made my night!! For the record, in my production we did not have microphones, which is why its somewhat quiet. XD But thank you so much for including me!!! Every other Veronica is great too of course. I loved Kerri.

I'm kinda let down by some of these. Everyone's vocals are superb and they sound gorgeous. But this is a real emotional line. Some of them sound like they're just singing words and not actually listening to what they're saying. I'd rather a slightly rough sounding vocal line if it means they are putting in the effort to convince people they're actually feeling something. This is the part of the show when Veronica realises that she really fucked up and there's no going back. She literally says that she deserves to die and it doesn't make sense to me that people can sing that with so little emotion.
But again they all sound gorgeous so props to them for performing a whole show and then hitting that ridiculous note.

What I like about Barrett is that she really puts a lot of emotion into her vocals. In Seventeen she sounds sweet, sad, and hopeful. In Dead Girl Walking Reprise she sounds raw and powerful, no longer having to rely on the heathers or jd to protect her from societal injustices, finally standing up for herself and what she knows is right. Barrett does such a great job portraying that, and it’s not just about hitting notes. When Barrett sings you can see it in her whole body, this is not just a sound coming out of her mouth but something that her whole being is participating in. That’s why although there are some other veronicas who have really amazing voices, I just feel like this role was MADE for Barrett and she SLAYS it.

A lot of these people were so offbeat. Barrett’s was the best imo. Hayley Rosenthal is probably the best Veronica though. A lot of them got to shouty. I know it’s a big note and you really gotta belt, but a lot of people got so caught up in trying to get the power for the note that they missed it completely.
Nicole L interestingly enough, you actually can’t belt a g5 safely, unless you’ve had a TON of training. It’s a very difficult note, and some vocal coaches say you can’t even actually belt it. Some of these ladies aren’t belting it, they’re just singing loudly. Even Barrett, a professional, said Heathers permanently changed and damaged her singing voice.

Barrett Wilbert is definitely best, because of the way that it sounds when the note is pretty high for someone, so it's a bit hard and you can tell but they can still perfectly hit the note. But I am very impressed at how easy it sounded for Michelle Renee to hit that note. Good for her!

Shelby: 8.7/10, her voice is a little too rough on this note, but at the same time the roughness is what makes her voice so great!
Delaney: 10/10, what the hell she hit the note so smoothly??? It's a 10 in my book honestly (plus she has GREAT vibrato)
Taylor: 8.6/10, it's... A t i n y bit pitchy, but her voice didn't crack! (and she also has great vibrato)
Michelle: 9.8/10, whoo boi man she hit that note smoothly as well, she made it seem effortless

Ashley Thomspon it's amazing. you can see barret's and Hayley's performance on RUclips and it's just great. But dead girl walking is kinda uncomfortable but still, it's great
I personally prefer the rougher sound at this point for veronica. She's watched (and partially caused) so many people to die, and as far as she knows she's next. A "smooth" or pretty sounding veronica isn't very fitting in my opinion. This is her breaking point. I think she should sound a little raspy.

Illegal heathers was out on by highschoolers, not made by professionals.

I feel like 4:07 changed the song a little to much for my liking and spaced out quite a lot of the lyrics. But everyone to their own.
I agree, personally I think it removes some of the important feeling with the sudden silence. Her vocals were amazing, however this big powerful part of a big powerful song is toned down. Again, she has a great voice, and I think would make a great Veronica, but the pause was just kind of weird for my taste.
It seems like they used the music of Dead Girl Walking, not the reprise🤔 but it's still awesome

I don’t think that she wanted to pause there for dramatic effect, she just used the instrumental for the original Dead Girl Walking. She didn’t edit the pause out with Audacity or anything so she just needed to work with what she had.

Barrett Wilbert Weed: top-notch.
Shelby Brown: everything up until the high notes was great.
Delaney Amatrudo: a few off notes leading into it, but the high notes were wonderful
Taylor Forsmo: felt more shouted than sung. Not bad though.
Michelle Renee Harris: acting is subpar, but vocally it's good.
Charissa Hogeland: OOOH, crystal clear! Awesome.
Haley Gustafson: high notes were good, but the rest was just ok
Loulu Luzi: she pretty much nailed the notes, but I felt disconnected for some reason.
Samantha Prentice: a little less shouty than Taylor, but about the same in quality.
Hilary Cole: loved the riff, first "yeah" was placed oddly, but the resonance on the second was excellent
Nicole Visco: didn't quite hit it.
Christine Quintana: interesting that she connected the two "yeah's". She was fine.
Kayla Fischl: didn't understand the inclusion of the pause. Liked it vocally though.
Jaz Flowers: loved the downward riff she did instead.
Kerri George: very much enjoyed this one.
Sydne Lyons: precisely the same sentiment that I had with Kayla's.
Makenna Hughes: falls off a bit on "created," but gets the high notes fine

I'm certain if I went up to random non-fans with no bias, everyone would pick someone different, or maybe have the same opinions. In my own opinion, I do like Barrett's best, but that's just because I guess I prefer her style of singing. For example, the Hadestown cast. I love both equally, but I will admit that I like the Fates' voices more in the Broadway run.
I think the pause is because they're using accompaniment from the non-reprise of the song.

While I love Barrett’s voice and her version of Veronica, it (apparently in an interview that I can’t find) was stated that Heathers actually damaged her voice.
Also it’s clear that Charissa is definitely able to hit the higher notes easier than Barrett.
Again love them both and wish there was more footage of Charissa as Veronica but yeah that’s my opinion.
