Thank you so much for bringing up this topic on “burials and funerals” I think it is about time most of the unnecessary attention given to the dead be stopped and the money spent wisely on more pressing needs of the kids and spouses of the deceased. All those show offs and trying to outdo others has to stop 🛑
Uncle KSM, you have raised a very important issue...Remodelling a dead person is not showing him/her respect. I feel it's more embarrassing and shows a lack of reasoning. If you want to pay respect, do it solemnly. TOO MUCH TIME AND MONEY WASTING. People even take loans to organize funerals and end up saddled in debt. We need to stop all these things as a people if we're serious about developing...
KSM, your absolutely 💯 and over % right. It's time our traditional leaders come together and put a stop to this craziness. Thank you for shedding light on this issue.
It’s a powerful and insightful reflection. You’ve touched on a deep cultural issue that resonates with many. The way we approach death and funerals often reflects our values and priorities as a society, and as you’ve rightly pointed out, it can sometimes drift far from honoring the deceased. The focus shifts to superficial displays rather than genuine remembrance. Your point about enlightenment is spot on-when people are exposed to new perspectives, it can reshape their behavior and beliefs. Initiatives like the KSM Show and programs like “Nation Time” are crucial for sparking these conversations and inspiring change. Thank you for sharing your thoughts; they’re thought-provoking and an important contribution to this ongoing dialogue about culture, priorities, and progress.
We are an amazing people when it comes to funerary practices. The corpse falling out of the coffin had my eyes popping out so much I couldn't laugh. 😂😂😂
You are so right We spend so much money for the funeral for someone who cannot see what is being done While in the same family some people cannot get basic needs
Culture is nice but some of them have to be revised. I really really hate the way funerals are held in this country. A total waste of money and time just to bury one who is already gone. Guess why the majority of people go to funerals now, and it's just because of the food, drinks and music. Funerals are for entertainment now and it's sad
The story in the bible about people who bu-ry their talent was referring to our "last vehicle" artisans. I've been telling my folks the same thing for a long while now. There's no guidance and our people are wasting their talent. And all that funds wasted on fun-e-rals could have been repurposed (e.g., some form of grant or scholarship bearing the name of the departed) to build-up/nurture the living. Those who use "it's our culture" as a silencing mechanism should know that it is the people that make the culture, not the other way around.
I am currently a witness to 2 of such occurrences, whereby in one instance, the family came for the body to the hometown, and left the deceased's wife and children to their own demise. They were not even invited to the funeral and till date no one has bothered to see to the children if they are breathing or flying. Imagine children not allowed to say their goodbyes because of misplaced priorities in the name of tradition. I hate some of our senseless traditions, which ends up causing more harm than good.
The government should put stop to all these nonsense... Ghanaians are going insane... How can the leaders take us serious with all these insanity... Such a madness!!
The mind of black people was broken during slavery. The pain, fear, mistrust, and sense of loss have been passed down through genetic memory. These feelings are making black people not think. The reset of the minds of Ghanaians need to be harsh and unapologetic to be able to create a better future for the next generations. This is an existential crisis.
Good education educating educative topic today from the one and only KSM. Resetting our country by John Mahama,he should also add and look into this madness waist of time ⌚ plus waist of huge sums of money unnecessarily. Ghanaians yer yer enkwsiafu plus yerarbobor LUDO not AADAAM.Why am saying this is if you play the games of Dame or Orwaree it means you are smart and intelligent.
Brother KSM, thank you ohh for mentioning this. Funerals seem to be more important than weddings and it seems that too much emphasis is centered around expenditure during funeral preparations. How about those who are mourning?. In the old days, things were done simply but nowadays, it's a fanfare. Those who are alive also count ! Brother KSM I agree, a serious reset is required.
Hmmm ksm ,, i ve a big problem with Ghana and funeral. I told a colleague at work about funeral in Ghana and he said we are sick...its beyond my imagination maybe it's because I'm poor but even if the money is there it must be used for something else. Now carpeting the muddy foors mmm..
I'm reflecting on an elderly relative who died, Furstly, her age was exaggerated to delude sympathisers or prove she was over a century old. Why? Then the poor person's knackered body was kept in the morgue for nearly yr( imagine the rigour mortis when they were finally taken out of the fridge! That old adage "as fit stiff as a corpe", fits perfectly in this scenario!) Long story short, all extended family members were asked to cough up 100s of $$$$/££££, just for the 1 week! Chn abroad celebrated own 1 week wherever they live. Next, they all arrived in Gh & did their gargantuan funeral, amidst bill boards, canopies, human size photos of the deceased splashed all over, etc. The videographer & praise singers also excelled themselves! Money, money, money wasted! Ha! Finally, they're all back abroad planning another funeral!!🙆🏾♀️🙆🏾♀️🙆🏾♀️ OMG! What for? 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️ Need I ask? And hey! I won't mince my words; that's the Asante branch of the family oooo. My kids really don't get it, & have flatly refused to join in this rassmatass. This must stop! It must be discussed with the chiefs 1st, because they seem to love & revel during such events, in their pomp & glory, competing each other in wealth & showmanship. Modern technology has indeed promoted such bizarre cultural practices, bcos folks were buried within a short time & my own mother's is a case in point & she was an Asante. Now these westerners hv sussed us out & are developing sophisticated morgues & laughing all the way to the bank & enjoying our stupidity!! Saa ayie kankan yi nyinaa must be curtailed legally. Bloody misplacement of priorities and narcissism written all over the whole unwholesome performance that goes on for days on end!! Haaaba!!!😮😮😮 KSM, I repeat, you ALWAYS deliver!!! BAM!💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾✋🏾✋🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
KSM you are very right about this. My biggest concern with the handling of dead bodies in that manner is neglect of public health safety. Contracting of diseases from these bodies and spreading same.
Now funeral has become like a festival.Even an elected MP may loose his/her seat in parliament if he doesn’t attend funeral regularly in his constituency
Uncle K. Please you can research genetic memory and how the pain, fear, anger, mistrust, and loss have been passed on through ancestral genetics till today. The trauma endured throughout history especially the slave trade era where families sold other families, and tribes sold people from other tribes is seeded deep in the subconscious of Africans. We are not being taught how to get over it and heal. So many of our actions are subconscious and uncontrolled. Many don’t even know how to live life because of the lack of proper organization. Just saying. We need to heal internally. All the culture we have taken up that doesn’t serve us is due to the lack of seeing into the future(Slave mentality). This is just my opinion. I love your show and Cheers from China.
Good evening. Please, Sir, my name is Naa Densua, i am the 62 yr old woman who was picked up by the police during the 2 day demonstration against galamsey at 37 roundabout last yr. Please, Sir, can you help us to get the new government to address the galamsey situation. People are being poisoned for gold on a daily basis. Wonderful shows !!! Thank you.
Ghanaians are their own enemies. Don't forget the galamsey belongs to many of the government officials. Soldiers were deployed to the sites to drive the illegal miners out. What did the soldiers do ? They ended up collecting money from the miners and protected them to destroy the lands and rivers. Isn't that insane ????? Not until Ghanaians change their mindsets of their illegal ways. It is very serious topic .And if you don't have water ; you don't have life. 😮
Jehovah's Witnesses are different. They have simple modest funerals yet many people criticise them. They don't even have a second funerals after the burial. Thank you KSM for this education.
To me, we pay too much attention to the dead which is bad. We spend countless hours and resources for the dead. We need to celebrate the living more than the dead. We have to change. Funerals is too much. Because we celebrate and spend too much for the dead, that is why the spirit of “ gone too soon” enjoys hovering around our country. Let us shame this spirit by having a simple and respectful burial for the dead. Everywhere we see the posters of gone too soon.
KSM: u have spoken my mind man!!!… 🤔 😅😅😅😅 Yes ooh.. The person will suffer without anyone caring and he or she dies THE FAMILY, THEn goes like “The BODY IS OURS”.... The current generation says it’s job creation: Those selling clothes, Food Catering, Musicians, Events Venues,Car rentals..
We always look at it from the women's view, but we have to remember not everyone is married. it is only a problem because of properties that the women worry about. It is never a problem when a woman dies because most often than not there is no properties involved. Everyone comes from a family but not everyone is married so if we leave the burial to the spouses, who will bury the unmarried people who die? let's look at it from that angle and we will appreciate traditions more. Also, not everyone gets an extravagant funeral, lots of people are buried daily without any fanfare.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 senior man, Ahh morrrrrr fire, sound like you are scared of your people the Ashanti’s , some of the reasons we love mother Ghana 😂😂 bull crap it is, l saw some family members l never met before, during my mom’s illness they came to claim the dead body 😂😂😂 it was funny
I agree but on the flip side, funerals are a whole economy on it's own. It has created a lot of jobs and businesses. This thing, as far as I disagree with people doing expensive funerals. The fact is, it employs a large section of the. economy. Catering services, decor, burial services, financial services, and many others. It's going to be hard to control. We should not forget the churches tried and failed.
"Return If Possible" is total madness and not culture. There is no respect for the dead any longer in Ghana. Where is the nation heading? There should be a "reset" of the mind when it comes to funerals.
KSM. God bless you greatly. In fact it's utter nonsense and rubbish! Most family members don't give a damn about the dead one whilst alive! Its a waste, useless expenditure and a "after death" method in all this! Its better be changed completely. Thank you so much
Thank you so much for bringing up this topic on “burials and funerals” I think it is about time most of the unnecessary attention given to the dead be stopped and the money spent wisely on more pressing needs of the kids and spouses of the deceased. God bless you Papa, this is one of the biggest sicknesses in Ghana, we need you more alive to advise this generation, l love you so much ❤️

I nearly spilled my coffee 😊. Sir KSM, you just told my story from 1-4 minutes. We need to change!!!
We are an amazing people when it comes to funerary practices. The corpse falling out of the coffin had my eyes popping out so much I couldn't laugh. 😂😂😂
This is wisdom calling, I pray we take it in good faith and change. Thank you KSM.
Ghana ooo Ghana for you😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
THANK YOU , THANK YOU, THANK YOU FOR RAISING THIS TOPIC!!!
You are so right
We spend so much money for the funeral for someone who cannot see what is being done
While in the same family some people cannot get basic needs
Hmmm louder sis, it's so bad 😢
KSM, you're on fire 🔥 this 2025..
Such powerful contents..
God bless you
When people have too much time on their hands, as they say, the devil gives them work to do! Unbelievable!
Culture is nice but some of them have to be revised.

I used to be a widow, so I can relate very well. Thank you.
The government should put stop to all these nonsense... Ghanaians are going insane... How can the leaders take us serious with all these insanity... Such a madness!!
We need laws on how to handle corpses. Shocking how things have deteriorated. It is pure savagery. SMH.
My brother God bless you Ghana needs a change ❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉

Exactly my thoughts earlier in the day. There are a lot of things that we waste so much resources on. we must rethink.
Brother KSM, thank you ohh for mentioning this. Funerals seem to be more important than weddings and it seems that too much emphasis is centered around expenditure during funeral preparations. It’s insanity, even handling the corpse like that is a health hazard, it’s must be stopped
It’s a whole industry now. Poor people even take loans for funerals. Ridiculous!

There should be a law to stop all these
An elderly who has nothing to lose is the Abusuapanin and keeps imposing irrelevant cultural practices on the entire family members
"Is it ingenuity or insanity"?. Is it Abɔdamity🙄

Ghanaians praise funerals too much and the cost is a headache even for some to go for loans @ the banks…..
Hier in Germany by law within 4 to 10 days by law.
No respect for the dead what so ever! So disgusting!
