Really cool Mike! I love the looks of those balloon type tubes. I like seeing that you show every stage and struggle with your projects. We even get a few laughs from Burt's commentary. To be fair, he has some pretty cool old radios on his channel. No, I'm NOT going to gut my 2A3's to get coil forms. There's someone on the internet who's resurrected the "Western Electric" name and is making NEW 300b's and 2A3's for about $700 each. Those would also be a poor choice to rob the sockets from! I DON'T think the XYL would approve. Thanks for taking us along and I can't wait to see this "in the field".
You can make Q dope from nitrocellulose from real ping pong balls and dissolve them in acetone or other solvents. I'm sure you know this but I had to mention. best wishes.
I would love to come across a spool of that old coil wire! :-) What causes the frequency shift when potted? Distortion of the polystyrene from the heat? Added capacitance from the glue as a "dielectric"?
I realize one of your objectives with this project was to maintain the authenticity of the receiver, but I’m curious if you have ever tried scramble winding the grid winding on lower frequency coils? I’ve done this when I had limited room for the winding and never had an issue. It obviously also reduces parasitic capacitance.
Interesting & nice Regen. I built a solid state regen 15 years ago. My various band coils were simply swap out or off the breadboard & not as elegant as the tube based concept. Somehow I lost it. I'd like to have it back & may build new one of these days. I am not a fan of hot glue for nearly all uses. Its just too messy and creates spider webs almost always. I think I would have used fiberglass resin or even melted paraffin for the potting procedure. Even many construction adhesives will, given a few days, turn completely solid.
Really enjoyed the series. You may have planted a regen bug in me. No lack of experimentation in this project! Thank you.
I wonder if anyone tried their hands at making a Longwave coil to cover some of the Non-Directional Beacons operating in MCW mode?
Very educational series on regenerative radios, you definitely planted a desire in me to build a tube AM broadcast band regen receiver.
What about candle wax for the coil goop -- would that work?
We need a video of you taking it out as a portable!
You make me want to build another regen.
Love old regens a blast from the past 👍
It turned out really nice. I really liked these videos, plus that I learned a lot too 😁... as always. 73, YO6DXE

But I don't have the antenna engineering handbook... Mike what do I do? hehe ;P Love your videos! Thanks!
Wonderful project. Thanks for the journey.

That's a winner, great work Mike! 73 - Dino KLØS
Excellent series. I liked your experiments with the 75/80 coil.

Great work Mike , guess one needs a little patience! Tks
Very cool.
Rest video thank you
Great Video and information!!

Using Field Effect Transistors?
Great video! I liked the professional look for the lettering on the coil at the end.
