Dean Lamb takes us through 'The Mimic Well' by his band Archspire
One of the most technical, proficient tech death guitar players in the world, Dean is this month's guest on Riffhard. He shows you how to play this song note for note, as well as giving you the tools to do so! With in depth lessons on Hybrid Picking, Alternate Picking and Economy Picking.
As well as this amazing content, Dean will also go live for an exclusive Q&A with our members and a livestream of Riff Rescue, where he'll take a song from one of our members and write along with it.

Hey it's me!
Hey it’s you!
Can't wait to see archspire in Poznań (Poland)
I just love the extra things you add to your playthroughs
And there you are! 😮
I found you
Archspire's playing is cleaner than my room
Don't know if this is a compliment🤔
I mean yeah, duh
Of course it is... It's cleaner than the clean room I work in
@@TheBramVC Do we clean rooms for Kermit's amusement? :)
Finally riffhard has a youtube channel, now we need a discord server 👌
Damn, those harmonics in the chorus Riff get me every time 😩
I adore them - so fucking good!
wow I had no idea they had harmonics there until I saw him at 1:45 ...how did I miss that????
@@Heavymetalbeardcuz they dont, hes been playin them sometime after the song release
1:42 "Have I left the oven on at home? did I do my taxes already? And what was that certain date supposed to be I forgot about... eehh, it was probably nothing important" haha! For a long time, this was probably my least favorite song of Relentless Mutation but of course it still slays, however this playthrough makes me know appreciate it way more and it probably will rise up, especially with that great ending section.
Hail Cult of fire
It's also nice to hear the individual parts clearer like this because sometimes, after all the tracking and mastering is finished, you're getting the holistic experience, but not the most detailed experience. I always like hearing their songs split up. it just makes me appreciate the musicianship of the band that much more.
This hits hard!
Archspire is the best that modern metal has to offer.
We need to appreciate how often Dean is checking his pick up switch. I mean that's insane XD !
he says it's a nervous habit that he does while playing Archspire songs. if you watch high level pro gamers i see them doing twitchy motions like that too i feel like it keeps your nerves up
Long been my favorite Archspire track. I'd love to see Jared do a bass playthrough.
YES!
I love how every member of this band is just sublime…
Playing that line 6 pod hd makes me smile .. you the man dean
Archspire, my favorite band!
SAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dean rules, this rules, Riffhard rules
This is my favourite song on relentless mutation. One of the greatest techdeath songs ever
That low growl he gets from playing the 8th string in the chorus is amazing lol archspire is soooooo good!
Awesome! Loving these exercises. Can't wait for the new album to drop
The reason I started guitar again 😊
His playing was so tight you couldn't even tell his video performance is in the mix
Dean is a person from another world
Sick! Riff A has been my focus this week. Hope to get that full playthrough one day.
Work of his pinky is insane !!!!!!!
Anchoring the pinky on the lower string made my right hand technique, learned that from the Browne man & it's cool to see Dean does it as well
Higher string* derp
I always did that. Dont think I learned it from anybody, just did it because it felt right when I was first learning to play. Ive heard people say its bad technique and slows down picking, but I never cared as I was always able to play what I wanted to play.
@@SvendleBerries i think for some people it helps to keep a positional reference, and some people also use their pinky for muting (steve morse for example). my former guitar teacher, who is a huge steve morse fan and abides by his "alternate pick all the things" philosophy also does that, and while he's an absolute beast in terms of picking, he has injured himself doing it a couple of times. he locked his forearm more in place than dean does, which meant most of his picking motion came out of the wrist moving side to side and less out of a rotation of the forearm.
he's since adapted to a more hybrid style where he only switches to that style of picking for the hardest parts, and i think dean's done something similar lately. i don't think it's a habit i'd consider correcting in a student, as long as they don't hurt themselves. but if someone experiences wrist pain i'd advise them to switch to a closed fist picking hand for a while and see if that improves the situation.
i think picking hand technique is super interesting, and seeing what works for different people. dean also has this hyperextended thumb like tosin, holding the pick parralel or almost at a reverse angle to the string. i could never play like that.
Thanks Dean to inspires us
Hell to the yes 🤘☹️
This channel is brilliant. Get more playthrough vids.....Entheos, Candiria, Rob Arnold, Chelsea Grin.....to be completely random 🤣 Even good bands most of us haven't heard yet.... And don't forget bass players
This is Awesome Dean is Great Guitar player 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
This is beyond amazing
Rocked me new Bleed the Future T at a BOO show last Friday. Love the Arch. #StayTech
Archspire its not from our planet. AWESOME
One of the best out there!!!
Estilo e timbre seus, essa é a essência
Мужик как же я люблю Archspire
So damn sick!
Holy shit this man's a machine
About time you guys made a youtube channel!!!!
Hell yeah! I love watching heavy riffage
Esto es lo que quiere sonar como música extrema en 2021 ,las generaciones que vienen ,como nosotros buscaremos ser más absurdum fast
Much fashion, many fast. 🤘
Greetings from Argentina!!!!!!!!
This guy guy is good! He should get in a band or something.
Is that a HD500 pro?
So good dude.
Hey Dean!
Killin it
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Impressive 👍🏿
The best tech band going at the moment.
Since we have been deprived of Necrophagist..
@@reav3rtm I love Necrophagist as much as the next guy, but Archspire aint a Necrophagist tribute band.
@@tristanclose5803 I never suggested that. I just think they both mix very complex riffs with actually having melody. Which cannot be said about bands like Brain drill. Many technical death metal bands are just random fretboard wankers.
@@reav3rtm Preaching to the choir!
@@reav3rtm Beyond Creation is the one tech death band that i prefer over Archspire at the moment. Very different approach, less heavy, but absolutely beatiful arrangements, and an absolute gift to every bass enjoyer out there
Yeah buddy!
Is this a limited time only?
this is innovation.
mad playn bro
their most playable song, but that string skipping diminished section before the first chorus fucks me so hard.
Big one 😎 is the discord exclusive to members?
But of course
After this, I seek remote guitar tumour.
Damn.
Archspire is good
blowminding bro
His tremolo picking looked like he was tickling the strings holy crap lol
BBCs in the building
🖤🤘🏻
holy shit he's using line 6 hd pro x :O
Even dean cant resist feeling spencers blasts. My favourite archspire song
Gude!
Is the tuning for this EAEADGBE ??
F#BEADGBE which is just standard 8 then for the seven it's BEADGBE which is just standard 7.
@@Nob0dyN0w Cool thanks!
if i don't get a video of every song off of relentless mutation im screaming
Dakadakadaka wuip deng deng
1:41 Dean's like fock you Toby..
Toight like a toiger!
i thought that im just autistic because of my way to anchor my pinky while im playing
Boy that escalated quickly, I mean, that got really out of hand.
Brick killed a guy
Dethkolk on steroids
666 Subscribers
🥵🥵🥵
Dude...
That's how you use an 8 string.
how do you only have 787 subscribers? did you eat a live kitten live and made everyone unsubscribe or did you nail the best possible first video one could get? nice! (the video that is)
By the way, to not edit, i do not play guitar anymore since it is so rusted, i actually and authentically fear "tetanus"... i need either a shot to play it again OR a sure way to de-rust it and save the rest of the metal part holding the strings. (i must of palm muted too much and rusted the crap out of it.)
The channel is brand new
@@eyalleviurm yeah kinda said that, but how does someone's first video be Dean Lamb playing an official play through as a first video!
most people, me included, the first video is a video recorded on a potato, no sound editing with awkward background noises and long silence due to them not being edited out!
not having an official band member of a band show up playing and have it recorded and edited professionally!
😂🤣
Most metal guitarist are butchers dean lamb is a surgeon
Hey Dean, just wanted to tell you that im definitely ripping your band off in the future lol
May i have your blessing?
If you only have the skill for it.. nobody will mind lol
Bro you wrote this song y u so bored looking
If you r representing the band. Why wouldn't u play Tobi's solo? Looks really bad to do a play through and u get to the solo and your playing the rhythm section? I noticed on your cover videos if some one plays Tobi's parts u basically skip through them? Why? Whats the deal. R u like contractually not aloud to play Tobi's stuff. Or is it just some kinda of stupid pissing contest.
wtf are you talking about? music is written for 2 guitars, hes playing his part, thats all, chill the f out.
1. Dean always points out whether the covers play his or Tobi’s parts or both.
2. If Dean doesn’t want to say anything about the parts he didn’t write, or simply aren’t his. Respect him!
3.When he represents the band, it should be normal that he plays his role in the band ; his role means his parts. Guitar solos aren’t everything, also why would he play Tobi’s parts anyway, Dean has his own parts ffs
