I bought a ST 300 2 or 3 years ago, and it has done everything I've ever asked it to. I've been looking around for a new tool recently and all the reviews I've watched have told me I already have the tool I want haha.

I EDC a Charge, so I almost bought a Surge to keep in my car; but, you made a really valid point about not always needing one handed opening. Since I already have that in a smaller package, I went with the ST 300 for my vehicle and couldn't be happier. Thanks for the great review that really helped me make up my mind!

I have the Super Tool 300 and I really do like it a lot. You are so right about what you said about simplicity, this tool is easy to clean and it feels good in the hand, I don't know why some people complain that it digs in their hand because it has sharp edges, but I don't feel anything because I have callouses on my hand from this thing called having a job, and when I'm done, it's just so easy wiping it clean with a rag. It has saved me so many times when I needed the right tool. The package says 19 tools but I can count 21, even 22 uses for this awesome tool. I have a bit extender from another multi-tool and it fits the Phillips on the 300, so now I can use ANY bit, even a ratchet with my Super Tool. The only thing is, I have to take my bits, 9 plus bit extender, Ferro rod with me, but they all fit in a tiny little velcro bag that housed a keychain multitool and has a belt loop, not a big deal I suppose, but I would rather have everything I need than just my ST300 only to realize I need a bigger or smaller bit or even a Robertson bit. Get this tool Y'all. It really comes in super handy and is cheaper than the Wave and the Surge and it's still considered a Heavy duty tool, not medium duty. Then get yourself a bit extender and you will be so happy you did. I see some people butcher their Leathermans only to swap certain tools when all you really need is a bit extender.

mate, you forgot aboute the weight. If you add the Supertool 300 with the Micra, they will still be lighter than the Surge. And one hand opening is not really something that I want on such a heavytool that will be probably on my backpack. On hand opening is for quick stuff. I wouldn't buy a supertool 300 atm, but weith is a big aspect that keeps me away from the surge.

My Super Tool 300 came with a leather sheath, but different than that one. Mine is all leather with a snap. No stretchy nylon on the sides. I was pretty impressed to see them return to a sheath so similar to the ones the early leathermans came in... the leather isn't quite as thick and the snap seems cheaper than the old ones, but I like it a lot better than the nylon and velcro one that my original supertool (1994?) came in. Though maybe I shouldn't complain about that one too much. It's still in tact and I've had it for 20 years.

Well said Brother, even with the Surge it's heavier than the Super Tool. This tool is just perfect, weight wise and tool wise. If they give these to the military then what does that say about the reliability of the ST300??? It's a great tool, I was finally able to buy one today earlier and I am so happy I did. The Rebar is a smaller version of the ST300 but this tool is made tough and do tougher jobs. I have the Wave and the Surge is a bigger version of the Wave and there's a lot of little nooks and crannies where dust, dirt, and grease can get stuck in and it's a pain to clean, the ST300 is simple to clean and maintain. I am so glad I bought it, I am very happy with it.

With my Leatherman Surge, I'm not restricted to just that one saw. I can use the variety of t-shank jigsaw blades made by Bosch, especially the longer blades. I don't mind the bit driver because, to me, multi-tools are for emergency or last minute adjustments when real tools are not near you. If I were to work on a project at home or at work, then I'll have a toolbox or tool chest filled with dedicated tools by my side. For EDC, the Leatherman Surge serves me well.

I can't change saw blades on the super tool. I love that interchangeability in the saw blades on the Surge. I keep a soda bottle preform with wood, steel and fiberglass saw blades and I modified a bit extender to fit the interchangeable screw driver bit. I can use full size bits of any size instead of the little 2D bits. Also, the pins in the super tool are not removable.. well they are, but it would require filing.

An important thing with the Supertool 300 is the safety factor inherent with this multitool design. With either blade deployed, locked and handles closed, there is no chance of the blade collapsing on your hand. The 300 is a simpler and safer tool for general use.

Would love a set of big scissors like on the Surge. In fact this the dilema for myself choosing between the Supertool 300 and the Surge. I use the scissors on my pocket carry Victorinox Super Tinker and my Leatherman Wave when its in reach. Fact is having good scissors is good because its safer and more precise than a blade. But I get worried they would have to ditch one of the long tools to accomodate it.

I have the micra and I put it on a steel ruler and the inch and metric marking are poorly engineered. the measuring on the first half of either is off slightly and using both sides to measure something is not possible as both are widely off...this function would have been better left off the final design...

I have a surge with the extended bit piece, the full bit kit, and the XL Molle sheath. I went all out on making it a full package. Unfortunately, the tool is extremely uncomfortable to actually use. It's covered in hot spots. I have a Rebar and I love how comfortable it is to use so I've decided to give the Surge to a friend of mine as a gift, bits and all, and get a Supertool 300 instead. Less fluff, more utilitarian, longer shanks, more comfortable to actually use.

Leatherman's biggest advantage over current big-name competitors is the replaceable bit driver. It would be nice if they could offer it on any of their large models. (And they need to give you a free bit driver extension along with the tool, so you can use generic bits instead of their specialized half-width bits.)

    • @Pinki2019

Nah, not for me, I couldn't handle not being able to access the knife blade from the outside one handed like on my Surge. I suppose I don't carry a dedicated pocket folder though. If the Supertool was just a backup blade I guess that would be fine. The lock for the knife on the Supertool looks like it might possibly be mechanically more robust. (You covered this feature just as I typed that). Also, looks like the Supertool bolts allow for self servicing with common tools if they start loosening.

Yeah, the outside accessible tools absolutely suck! They make the grip so sharp and uncomfortable in the hand. I have a leatherman Wave and I can't stand using the blades because the grip is so damn sharp and uncomfortable. Knowing what I do now, I would have chosen the super tool over the wave any day! Go for comfort, not gimmicks... The outside accessible blades just create sharp 90 degree corners that just makes the knives unbearable to use.

    • @southerncomfort7490
      @southerncomfort7490 3 года назад +1

I completely agree with this comment. The Supertool series are the simplest and easiest to use. True, you do not have one hand opening. This is what you might call a 'First World Problem.' For centuries our ancestors had the wit to open a pen knife with two hands. I am sure that we can do the same today. I can only really understand one-handed opening in one circumstance, namely, that you only had one hand. Oh, and that would need to the right one (anyway).
Yes, Dan is so right in terms of the comfort. I cannot be doing with the Wave, Surge or Charge for the same reason. You would never use a knife with such a grip, so why use one on a multitool? This is also an advantage of the Swisstool.

I'm sorry, but for a good one-tool option as far as a multi-tool goes, I'd happily get rid of the serrated knife in exchange for a good pair of scissors. You already have a good blade and a saw on this tool. On tools that incorporate both, a serrated edge makes little sense. Also, I can't help but feel they could have gotten rid of the med. screwdriver and replaced it with a micro one. You'd still have the smaller and larger screwdrivers good for most tasks. With those two changes, this would be the ultimate multi-tool.

+WeAllJuggleKnives SOG is made up from aus8a steel, I was taking apart my hard drive and the driver was used to pry open a loose screw and was very brittle and it broke.

+Demona Clouddancer respectfully that is up for debate- however from experience Victorinox do not stand behind their so called "lifetime warranty" unlike Leatherman.

And for the recod when leatherman first started it had a lifetime warranty then they modified it to 25 years so before u say anny thing no your history about it
