Incidentally the bandwidth was down somewhat on the 5150 at around 1.2 over the 5000's 2.0mhz.It did have a fast fall and rise processor which gave it a very clear/clean edge playback performance. Also new belt's and idlers (NOT 'O' ring ) are a must on ANY Sanyo, especially those that are now being discovered in loft's and flea market's and a good majority on E Bay too. Also there is a resistor and on some diode upgrade that is required as the reel motor ages to avoid tape jamming during unlacing.Other areas need seeing to now as well after 32 odd years.Nice find.

To stop the squeeling. Id replace the lace up belt and idlers Chean the tape path with ipa . mine was the same. You can buy a kit that will fix the vtc 5000. Its a resistor and a diode that need replacing

That squeal sounds like the tape has issues. Some Sony L750 ones around 1985 with a grey shell and light yellow colour spools, were notorious for sticking and causing back tension issues (or back tension setting on the Sanyo is a little bit high).

Thanks for an entertaining video about the Vtc 5150.
You could probably use parts from the Vtc 5000 to fix the 5150 or just use the 5000 to rewind (if rewind doesn't chew tapes!)

Yes. The latter at the moment!

That's actually an early production 5150. You can see it has the same system control bug as the 5000 when you tried to fast forward the tape. Just needs a couple of belts and a new idler and it will be good to go.

OK, I'll get those parts and see how I go. Thanks.

Trying to connect my Sanyo VTC 5450-SA to a TV but dont have the right cables.
What adapter have you used to do the connection?

I used a BNC to UHF adapter at the VCR end and a UHF aerial cable.

Does anyone know if there are VCR repair people/shops that will happily look at and repair a Betamax, in my case a Sanyo VTC5000?. I rang up the only nearest repair business today to ask if they repair Betamax VCRs, and as soon as I said Betamax the person didn't want to know, insisting that parts are non existent now and even 30 years ago nobody wanted to repair Betamax. The problem I have with the machine I have is that it will power and light up but nothing else will work (FF, RW, play etc), all it does when you put a tape inside and shut down the top loader and press one of the buttons is make a slight short clicking noise and a low winding down noise, to me it appears the loading mechanism isn't working, but I've been told by others that it's either the power unit or something to do with the PCB board. Without anyone in my area who is willing to look at it I've no idea what could be wrong. When I bought the machine off ebay about 2 yrs ago it was working fine for about a week, then after not using it for a few days and then trying a tape it suddenly wouldn't do anything, and the fact that I actually paid £150 for it too lol.

You could try Palsite,,, Might be the idler..

@@jameifranks4044 I don't think it's the idler, and the belts don't appear be broken.
